MHUSD Messenger Celebrating our Students, Teachers, Staff & Families Each and Every Day February 26, 2025 A Message from Your Superintendent Morgan Hill Community, Enrollment for the next academic school year is now open, and I warmly invite new families and students to learn about our schools and the well rounded opportunities we offer. For current students and families, we are making tremendous progress on our goal to advance college, career and civic readiness. Our district goals are driven via the Local Control and Accountability Plan, also known as LCAP. This is a three-year plan to support positive student outcomes. One of our District’s key LCAP goals is to prepare all students for college, career, and civic life through equitable, high-quality, inclusive instruction in grades Pre-K thru 12th. One shining example is our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, which continues to expand across over 25 CTE pathways in our high schools. Additionally, we have strengthened our Dual Enrollment program with eight new courses, allowing over 600 students to earn college credit while still in high school this school year alone. Students have access to more options to explore their interests while preparing them to be college-and-career-ready in fields such as Computer Science, Construction Management, the Arts, Culinary Arts, Vet Science, 3D Design, Agriculture and much more. Also, our Educational Services team has finalized a robust Plan for English Learner Success, a bold commitment to helping our students identified as English Learners thrive. This plan ensures every student has access to high-quality instruction, strong family partnerships, and the tools they need for academic success and multilingual growth. With a focus on meeting each student at their point of need, we are dedicated to empowering students to achieve their full potential and be prepared to succeed in today’s world. We are paving the way for your child’s future success. Please visit our website or connect with our wonderful school staff to learn more about how we can best serve your family. Thank you, Dr. Carmen García Superintendent Celebrating ACSA Region 8 Recognitions We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding leadership within Morgan Hill Unified School District, recognized by ACSA (Association of California School Administrators) Region 8. Support for Our Families
Dear MHUSD Parents/Guardians and Families, We are aware of the increased anxiety surrounding recent executive orders related to immigration and recognize the challenges and uncertainties many of our students, families, and staff members currently face. For many in our community, the weight of these uncertainties is overwhelming. As I’ve often stated, our collective work and its impact extends beyond the walls of the classroom, school buildings, and offices; our work calls us to serve as a source of stability, compassion, and support for our school community. By law, all children in the United States, regardless of immigration or citizenship status, have the right to a free and appropriate public education (Plyler v. Doe, 457 U.S. 202 [1982]), and every student in California has the right to attend public school free from discrimination, harassment, violence, intimidation, and bullying (California Education Code [EC] 220, 234, et seq.). MHUSD has established important protections for students “irrespective of their immigration status, ethnicity, race, religion, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socio- economic status.” We reaffirm our commitment to maintaining our schools as safe and welcoming environments for all students and families. (See Resolution No. 2016-17 039 : Morgan Hill Unified School Sites as Safe Spaces , adopted by the Board in January 2017) Federal and state laws protect student education records and personal information. The district does not collect immigration or citizenship information. There are many state and county resources available to our community. For our community’s benefit, we are linking these resources on the front page of the mhusd.org website or under the Family Resources tab. This page will be updated frequently to reflect the latest information. Quick links to some of these resources can be found below. Furthermore, we are partnering with local community-based organizations to provide additional resources, trainings, and free legal consultations for those that find themselves with immigration related questions/situations. More information on these trainings are forthcoming. It is important that we continue to support our students, their families, and one another, and remember that central to our mission is that, in partnership with parents and the community, we create learning environments where all students learn and are empowered to achieve their unique potential. Thank you for all you do to make our schools safe places where every single student is valued, feels safe, and can thrive. November MHUSD Monthly Newsletter - In Gratitude
November 2024 Message from our Superintendent, Dr. Carmen Garcia Hello Morgan Hill Unified, With the fall and Thanksgiving season upon us, I'm filled with gratitude for our wonderful Morgan Hill district community. This time of year always serves as a reminder of the power of partnership in education – between teachers, staff, students, parents/guardians, families, and the greater community. Our dedicated teachers and staff work tirelessly to foster engaging learning environments and go above and beyond to support each student's needs ensuring they meet their unique potential. To our teachers and staff: your commitment to each and every student before you is inspiring—thank you! To our students: Each day you show up, we see you, we see your resilience in overcoming challenges and pushing forward; your presence in school every day is crucial for your success and I thank you for trusting us along your journey. To our parents/guardians and families, your role is equally invaluable. Your support at home reinforces what's taught and learned in the classroom. Whether that’s helping with homework, reading with your child every night, volunteering at school events, or simply ensuring your child arrives at school on time, every action contributes to our students' success. And, your support in this partnership is key! All of us, together, form a powerful partnership with the goal to improve education in Morgan Hill for everyone. When we all work together – teachers, staff, students, parents/guardians, and community – we create an environment where every student can truly thrive. As we celebrate Thanksgiving with friends and loved ones, let's all continue to reflect on the importance of this partnership—in our collective commitment to supporting ALL students and fostering a community of lifelong learners. September 2024 Message from our Superintendent, Dr. Carmen Garcia Hello Morgan Hill Unified, The 2024-25 school year is off to a great start, filled with renewed excitement and energy on each of our school campuses. I want to take a moment to thank each of our teachers, staff, students, and administrators for working together to make each day a success for all 8000 students. We are proud of the comprehensive systems we have in place to support our students, especially when it comes to promoting strong attendance. We value the commitment of parents and families to ensure their children are present and engaged each day. Thank you for encouraging and inspiring your children to build and maintain the habit of showing up to school every day, ready to learn. As you know, the MHUSD school community is strengthened by its diversity. This group is comprised of dedicated parents representing elementary, middle, high school, and K-8/Alternative Education sectors, as well as respected Board, employment group and community members who collectively reflect the diverse demographics of our district. The BAC will be vital in providing insights and feedback on fiscal matters to help shape the district's budget. The committee’s primary responsibilities include attending all scheduled meetings, gathering input from and sharing updates with their constituents, and adhering to established BAC norms. Each year, the committee will assist in formulating recommendations that align with the Board of Education’s strategic budget priorities, based on the district's evolving needs. School Meet & Greets Create a Sense of Community Our schools have done a wonderful job of holding ice cream and popsicle events, many before the first day of school. Other events that have welcomed families into our school communities have been Kindergarten orientations, for students and also for parents. Home & School Club meetings are already underway to encourage support and participation in events and fundraisers to benefit our students. Home Study "Back to School" K-5 Home Study is off to an amazing start! The students came to their first Zoom class full of excitement and ready to learn. We were all so happy to see each other again. Each grade level is already learning a lot, and all students are conducting science experiments using the scientific method. One Kindergartener is taking his first steps as a reader, a student’s science project based on Newton’s disc, and students have been creating beautiful “Back to School” drawings. Terrific work! Happy 20th Birthday, Ann Sobrato High! Many original staff and teachers, members of the Board of Education past and present, and a representative from Senator John Laird’s office joined current staff, the Superintendent, Principal Theresa Sage and more to celebrate! Fresh salads were provided by Student Nutrition, and cake was served to every student! Thank you to everyone for making the day special! The music in the quad and the cheer from the Sobrato cheer team made for a fun celebration.
