The week strengthened our sense of community and highlighted the importance of celebrating one another. To wrap up the season, our Fall Sports teams demonstrated tremendous dedication and teamwork. Students showed strong effort, school spirit, and support for their teammates—both on and off the field. San Martin/Gwinn Celebrates Culture and College Spirit San Martin/Gwinn had a vibrant and engaging fall season filled with culture, school spirit, and family fun. To honor Día de los Muertos, classes collaborated to create beautiful ofrendas—traditional altars that celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed. Students learned about the significance of essential elements such as water, salt, candles, copal, incense, marigolds, papel picado, and favorite foods. Our College and Career Spirit Week brought excitement to campus as students participated in themed dress-up days all week long. Students in grades 4–8 also enjoyed playing College Bingo, helping spark conversations about future goals and pathways. The celebrations continued with SMG’s Annual Pumpkin Patch and Halloween Parade. Students selected and decorated their own pumpkins before families returned in the afternoon to enjoy the school’s beloved parade. It was a joyful day of costumes, creativity, and community. Los Paseos Panthers Shine in a Busy and Successful October October was our longest instructional month with 23 school days, but Los Paseos powered through with 95% attendance and a record number of Positive Paws—great job, Panthers! Our Trunk or Treat celebration was also a huge success. A big thank-you to our Home & School Club and all families who volunteered, hosted trunks, donated candy, and supported behind the scenes. Classrooms were buzzing with hands-on learning all month long. TK students explored the pumpkin life cycle through Pumpkin Jack and real decomposition investigations, while Kindergarten wrapped up their Community Helpers unit and practiced composing and decomposing numbers 0–10. First graders compared life today to life long ago and strengthened their number fluency, now adding three-digit numbers. In second grade, students built measurement skills using both standard and metric units. Third graders studied weather and climate and even engineered windproof houses. Fourth grade took a virtual PORTS field trip to Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, and fifth graders launched their Math Switch program, began their novel study of The Circuit, and explored Indigenous history. Thank you for your continued support—our Panthers are thriving! We’re all looking forward to a well-deserved Fall Break. Enrichment, Community, and Smiles at P.A. Walsh We’re excited to celebrate the end of Session 1 of our after-school programs! Our Folklorico workshops wrapped up this week, and students had a wonderful time learning new skills and connecting with friends. Art, Lego, Crochet, and Homework Support clubs will also conclude this Thursday, and it has been great to see how much fun students had in each activity. Our YMCA Soccer program will continue throughout the school year, providing students with ongoing opportunities to stay active and engaged. Be on the lookout for Session 2 sign-ups during the week of December 8—more enrichment opportunities are on the way! We also thank Big Smiles Mobile Dental for visiting campus last month. Twenty students received dental services, including cleanings, x-rays, sealants, and cavity treatment. Enjoy these photos from our after-school programs! Martin Murphy Showcases Musical Talent and Spooktacular Spirit Martin Murphy had an exciting month filled with impressive performances and festive fun. Our Intermediate Band delivered a fantastic concert featuring Fanfare for the Fearless by Brian Balmages, Conviction by Larry Clark, and Majestica by Brian Balmages. The Advanced Band followed with powerful performances of Regal Fanfare by Richard Saucedo, Zeeland by Rob Grice, and The Pit and the Pendulum by Michael Story. With approximately 45 students in each ensemble and visible growth in both size and skill, our musicians continue to perform at an exceptional level. We are so proud of our Murphy Band students! Halloween at Martin Murphy was equally memorable. Students enjoyed mummy races, costume competitions, and a lively DJ who kept everyone dancing. Staff joined in the fun as well, showing their Murphy spirit by dressing as referees. It was a day full of laughter, creativity, and Mustang pride. Britton Celebrates Tradition, Student Voice & Community Engagement Britton Middle School had an exciting start to the year with the launch of the first student-produced edition of The Bobcat Roar, a newspaper highlighting campus news, student perspectives, and creative features. The issue also reflected on the demolition of Building D this summer and celebrated Britton’s long history in Morgan Hill. A special Teacher Feature honored math teacher and former Britton student Mr. Richard Punches, highlighting his impact on generations of Bobcats. Students enjoyed new lunchtime sports tournaments, offering fun and friendly competition, and the Dungeons & Dragons Club continued to provide a creative space for storytelling and teamwork. Beyond campus, the Leadership Builders Club partnered with the Kiwanis Club to hand out candy at Morgan Hill’s Downtown Trick-or-Treat, proudly representing Britton in the community. Britton’s fall season showcased learning, leadership, and Bobcat pride. Live Oak Celebrates Homecoming Traditions and Senior Achievement Live Oak had an unforgettable October, highlighted by a spirited fall Homecoming Weekend on October 10–11. The festivities began with a campus-wide rally, followed by Saturday’s full day of events, including the downtown parade, girls' flag football, JV football, and Varsity football—each matchup against Santa Teresa High School. The evening concluded with Live Oak’s signature halftime fireworks show, a school tradition recognized by the San Jose Mercury News as one of the most impressive high school displays in the nation. Last week, Live Oak also hosted its Senior SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium) Celebration, honoring seniors for their hard work on the state assessments. Students enjoyed hot dogs, chips, and cookies, while the administrative team—dressed as characters from The Incredibles—joined in the fun to celebrate the school’s growth goals. Thank you to the staff and seniors who helped create such a positive and spirited afternoon. Congratulations to Live Oak JV Football, for an undefeated season, and wishing Varsity all the best in their CCS playoff games. Ann Sobrato High Celebrates Culture and Student Achievement Ann Sobrato High School hosted a vibrant Día de los Muertos celebration on November 3. Students created a beautiful campus ofrenda in the Library, featuring memories of loved ones, individual ofrendas, artwork, alebrijes, and Día de los Muertos–themed pumpkins. During lunch, students enjoyed a chili verde meal from the Nutrition Department, along with performances by the Sobrato Band and the Live Oak Folklorico dancers. Staff were treated to additional performances from the Sobrato Choir and Live Oak Folklorico in the Library. Families, students, and staff returned in the evening for an expanded celebration, complete with music from the Sobrato Band and Choir, folklorico performances, and a reception featuring agua fresca and pan de muerto. Guests explored the artwork and ofrendas that filled the Library. A heartfelt thank-you goes to the families, staff, and students who made this cultural event possible. Sobrato’s FFA students also proudly represented the school at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis from October 29–November 1. • Your September MHUSD Messenger

MHUSD Messenger Celebrating our Students, Teachers, Staff & Families Each and Every Day September 26, 2025 A Message from Dr. García Morgan Hill Community, The start of the school year is an important time for families to build strong routines that support student success. One of the most important habits is attending school every day. We know that how students begin the school year truly matters. Research shows that attendance in the first month can set the tone for the rest of the year. When students miss just two days a month—referred to as chronic absenteesim—they can fall behind, especially in critical areas like reading. Starting the year off strong, and continuing with regular attendance throughout the year, will lay the foundation for a successful school year.  Missing just 10% of the school year, or about 18 days, can significantly impact a student’s academic progress. Together, we have an important role to play in supporting student success. Simple, consistent routines—like early bedtimes, a healthy breakfast, and a regular homework schedule—can benefit our students. Creating a quiet space to study and helping your child stay organized with a folder or planner helps build lasting habits for success. And don’t forget to check in. Spend a few minutes each day talking about what your child is learning and how they’re feeling. These daily conversations foster connection, motivation, and confidence. Most of all, let’s celebrate the effort. Whether it’s an improved grade, completing a challenging assignment, or showing kindness to a classmate, every win—big or small—deserves recognition. Also this month, we proudly join in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month—honoring the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to our country. At MHUSD, we believe every student’s identity should be valued, and we celebrate the richness that our diversity brings to our schools and community. Let’s remember—success is a marathon, not a sprint. Balance, self-care, and perseverance will carry us through. And when families and schools work hand in hand, every student has the opportunity to thrive. Thank you for being part of the Morgan Hill Unified School District family. Dr. Carmen García Superintendent Guaranteed Pathway to San Jose State University On Thursday, September 25 San José State University and Morgan Hill Unified School District (MHUSD) announced “Pathways to Success: Morgan Hill & San José State University Partnership Launch”, a program that will provide guaranteed admission to SJSU and dual enrollment to students in MHUSD. The collaboration expands opportunities for access, equity and excellence for our students and supports the district’s focus on college readiness through guaranteed admission to SJSU and dual enrollment. Everyone came together to enjoy an ice cream social, where they had time to connect and build relationships. School-wide, Central is putting in the effot in the district attendance awareness campaign, Mining for Knowledge. Mining for Knowledge: 2025 Attendance Campaign MHUSD launches this year’s Mining for Knowledge Attendance Awareness campaign to remind families that every school day matters. The campaign encourages students to “dig deep” into learning opportunities by being present and engaged. Schools celebrate strong attendance with activities and recognition, while also sharing resources to support families in building positive routines. Consistent attendance not only helps students succeed academically but also strengthens habits that last a lifetime. Together, we ensure every student is mining for knowledge and building a brighter future. • August 2025 Messenger

MHUSD Messenger Celebrating our Students, Teachers, Staff & Families Each and Every Day August 27, 2025 A Message from Dr. García Dear Morgan Hill Community, I hope you had a joyful and restful summer filled with fun, time with loved ones, and maybe even a great book or two. As we kick off the 2025–26 school year, I’m thrilled to welcome you back. There’s nothing like the energy of a new school year, and we are prepared to make it a great one! Whether you're a returning family or new to our district, we’re delighted you're here. I want you to know that you belong, are welcome, and are supported. Over the summer, we’ve been working behind the scenes to make meaningful improvements for our community. One major update we’re excited to share is the launch of our newly redesigned district website! The site now features a clean, modern look and more intuitive navigation, making it easier for families, staff, and students to find important information and resources. We invite you to explore our site at mhusd.org. The year ahead is full of possibilities: new subjects to explore, friendships to cultivate, passions to discover, and goals to achieve. Many exciting opportunities await our students, ready to spark curiosity and stoke their enthusiasm! Our schools are home to administrators, educators and staff who are energized, committed, and ready to support you every step of the way. Dr. Carmen García Superintendent MHUSD Leaders Kick Off the 2025-26 School Year Morgan Hill’s educational leaders are gearing up for an incredible year—and we couldn’t be prouder of our dedicated management team. Their passion, collaboration, and commitment to students set the tone for a strong start. This year’s annual leadership huddle began with The Beekeeper, a leadership fable that highlights the power of working together with a “we before me” mindset. Just as bees thrive when each member of the hive plays their role, our schools succeed when we unite around a shared purpose. We were fortunate to be joined by Arthur, a local beekeeper, who shared one of his hives and offered a powerful reminder of the synergy found in collective effort. With a continued focus on strength in collaboration, we look forward to making 2025–2026 our best year yet—ensuring every student graduates ready for college, career, and life. New Teachers, Bright Futures MHUSD welcomed new teachers with an orientation full of energy, ideas, and collaboration. Smiles and excitement filled the room as our newest team members prepared to inspire students across the district. This annual event provides teachers with resources, connections, and a strong foundation to begin their journey with MHUSD. With passion and commitment, our educators are ready to support every student who walks through our doors. Together, we look forward to an incredible 2025–2026 school year—one filled with learning, growth, and opportunities for all. Welcome Back, MHUSD! The 2025–2026 school year is officially underway, and MHUSD kicked it off in style with our annual Welcome Back event. This special tradition celebrates the people who make our district shine—educators, staff, and leaders who dedicate themselves to student success every day. A highlight of the event was honoring our three most senior employees from each of our employee groups: Ray, Lead Custodian with 34 years of service; Patrick, Principal for 19 years; and Mr. García, who has inspired students for an incredible 52 years in the classroom. Their commitment reflects the heart of MHUSD. From new faces to long-time legends, every member of our MHUSD family plays a vital role in supporting students and families. Together, we look forward to a year filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable moments. FarmTECH Update FarmTECH is growing—literally and figuratively! Special thanks to 10 South Construction for their generous gift of land leveling. Their team began work on our 18 acres, creating roads and irrigation pathways that mark a massive step forward for the project. This crucial work will allow us to plant a much-needed cover crop this fall. It’s incredible to see the progress: just a week ago our seedlings were barely peeking above the soil. Now, our Sugar Pie Pumpkin plants are thriving in the beds we worked so hard to prepare. So much potential lies ahead! Learn more about FarmTECH and follow our journey at www.mhusd.org. District Benefit Program This year, we’re focused on more than just school meals — we’re making sure every family has access to the benefits they deserve. California’s Universal Meals Program provides free breakfast and lunch to all students, but completing the District Benefit Application is still important. The number of applications submitted directly impacts state funding for our schools. Families may also qualify for extra benefits like reduced AP exam fees, recreation discounts, and lower utility bills. Please complete one application per household by October 1, 2025 using the QR code or link provided. MHUSD and Schools Unveil New Websites We’re excited to share that MHUSD has launched a brand-new website for the district and all 14 of our schools! The updated sites feature a modern, clean design and simple navigation to make it easier for families, students, and staff to find what they need quickly. From enrollment to board meetings, and from school events to classroom resources, our websites are designed to better serve our community by putting the most important information front and center. Each school site has also been refreshed to reflect its unique identity while keeping a consistent, family-friendly look across the district. We invite you to explore the new mhusd.org and your school’s site today — and see how this update helps us stay connected, informed, and engaged as one MHUSD community. Summer Upgrades Strengthen Our Schools Our facilities team had a busy summer making important improvements across MHUSD schools, thanks to Measure G funds and the continued support of our community. These capital projects are part of our long-term plan to modernize learning spaces, improve safety, and upgrade infrastructure to benefit students for years to come. This summer’s accomplishments included fresh paint and an updated administration space at Martin Murphy Middle School, new paint at P.A. Walsh STEAM Academy, and major work at Britton with the renovation of the gym and demolition of Building C. Murphy also received a new fire alarm system, while the Community Adult School saw both a new roof and HVAC upgrades. At Live Oak High School, the parking lot was resurfaced and striped, and districtwide, our data center server and backup infrastructure were enhanced. We are grateful to our dedicated facilities team for completing so much in just one summer! Bond funds are critical to making these upgrades possible and ensuring safe, modern schools for our students. Their robot impressed with its defensive strength and climbing mechanism, lifting nearly 100 pounds. The team placed 20th out of 40 and won the Imagery Award for outstanding visual design and team branding. Their hard work, dedication, and achievements are truly inspiring—way to go, Bulldogs! Congratulations to our outstanding counseling team for earning first place—for the sixth year in a row—in the CalSOAP FAFSA/CADAA submission competition! They boosted submissions by 19% over last year, reflecting their ongoing commitment to student success. This win against all South County high schools highlights the power of teamwork and Bulldog pride! Central Students Explore STEM and Earn Honors Central High School students recently visited The Tech Interactive in San Jose, where they engaged in hands-on exhibits in robotics, biotechnology, virtual reality, and more. From coding robots to testing earthquake-resistant structures, students demonstrated curiosity, creativity, and impressive STEM skills throughout the day. We’re also excited to share a few student highlights: Congratulations to Carlos, who won a new computer through a Cal-SOAP raffle for completing his FAFSA. And a big round of applause to Arely Beas and Conner Markey, recipients of this year’s Mushroom Festival Scholarship. Central students continue to grow, explore, and achieve, both inside and outside the classroom. Wellness in Action at Britton To kick off Mental Health Awareness Month, Britton Middle School’s Wellness Center hosted a meaningful “Lift Each Other Up” event during lunch. Students were invited to take a pledge to support their own mental well-being and to uplift others in their school community. The event featured mental health resources, thoughtful giveaways, and opportunities for students to engage in open conversations about emotional health. With support from the counseling team, the Wellness Center partnered closely with students to help break the stigma around mental health and encourage healthy self-expression. It was a powerful reminder that caring for ourselves and each other is an essential part of a thriving school community. Innovation and Inclusion at Martin Murphy Martin Murphy’s Computer Club, led by former parent Mr. Fang, expanded its Web-Based Games Series this year by adding a third course focused on Canvas, building on students’ skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The club also participated in two major competitions: the nationwide Bebras Challenge, where two Mustangs scored in the 92nd and 100th percentiles, and the global American Computer Science League (ACSL), where strong student interest led to two competitive teams—five students advanced to the Finals Invitational on May 24. Thanks to generous support from Alarm.com, the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill, AAUW Morgan Hill, and the Fang Family, the school now has a high-performance computer lab designed for hands-on learning! Martin Murphy’s LGBTQIA+ Club also continues to thrive, offering a student-led, inclusive space that meets weekly during lunch for games, art, and conversations that build connection and promote allyship. Martin Murphy Intermediate and Advanced Band students had an unforgettable experience performing and recording at Disneyland! As part of a special music workshop, they recorded a Disney song using professional studio equipment—an exciting opportunity to showcase their talent and get a taste of the music industry. It was a magical day of music, learning, and lasting memories! San Martin/Gwinn: Student-Led Band Brings Music and Joy to Campus A group of talented 8th grade students at San Martin/Gwinn took the initiative to form their own band—and they’ve quickly become campus favorites. Practicing daily during brunch and lunch, the student musicians have impressed staff and peers alike with their dedication and sound. Recently, they performed for fourth graders during the school’s Gold Rush celebration, providing a lively soundtrack while students enjoyed a traditional meal. Their creativity and leadership have added a wonderful new rhythm to campus life. TK and Kinder Celebrate Día del Niño with Joy and Play At San Martin/Gwinn, we believe in honoring the joy and importance of childhood. On April 30, in recognition of Día del Niño (Children’s Day)—a special celebration in Mexico that honors children and their well-being—our TK and Kindergarten students enjoyed a festive on-campus carnival. The day was filled with fun, laughter, and hands-on activities that celebrated our youngest learners. From games to treats, it was a joyful reminder of the value of play in early learning and the importance of celebrating every child.
