Superintendent's Welcome Back Newsletter, 2025-2026
Baldwin Park USD Superintendent's 2025-26 Welcome Back Newsletter August 4, 2025 Dear Baldwin Park Unified Community, Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! I am excited to begin this new chapter alongside our incredible students, families, staff, and community partners. As we embark on this journey together, we do so with a renewed sense of purpose. While we continue to navigate changing and challenging times, our mission remains clear: to ensure high achievement for ALL learners and to support every family we serve. Over the summer, District leadership and the Board of Education engaged in thoughtful review and reflection. We assessed our progress and identified key areas for growth by reviewing student performance outcomes and more than 5,000 survey responses, which included input from teachers, staff, parents, students, and community members. This collaborative process led to the adoption of three refreshed priorities for the year ahead: Strengthen academic programs and incorporate essential life skills Foster a safe, supportive learning environment built on strong school-family-community partnerships Exercise fiscal prudence and maintain solvency amid changing and uncertain budget conditions These priorities reflect our enduring commitment to student success, family engagement, and responsible stewardship of resources. This school year, we are excited to introduce new opportunities and enhancements across our campuses. From the expansion of Digital Arts with Spyder Lab and Esports at Sierra Vista High School, to the installation of new playgrounds and significant infrastructure upgrades, our schools are evolving to meet the needs of our students. We are also pleased to welcome new leadership across several school sites. Additionally, we are proud to implement two new high school RISE Program teachers dedicated to Restorative, Intervention, Support, and Encouragement at Baldwin Park High and Sierra Vista High School. These educators will support students in developing social-emotional skills, addressing behavior concerns, and collaborating with service providers to ensure students receive the personalized support they need to succeed. We recognize that the beginning of the school year can bring excitement, as well as uncertainty. Please know that our campuses continue to be inclusive, welcoming spaces where every student can learn, grow, and thrive in a secure and supportive environment. Thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and unwavering support of our students. Together, let’s make 2025–2026 a year of purpose, progress, and promise. Sincerely, Froilan N. Mendoza, Ed.D. Baldwin Park USD Superintendent's Update: April 28, 2025 Dear Baldwin Park Unified Community, I hope you and your families had a wonderful Spring Break. As we return, it’s clear that the end of the school year is quickly approaching, and with it comes much to celebrate. May is a month filled with meaningful recognitions, from School Lunch Hero Day and National Teacher Appreciation Week to celebrations for our nurses, speech pathologists, and classified employees. It is also Mental Health Awareness Month—a reminder of the importance of care and support for our entire school community. Please see the calendar below for the full list of celebration dates. These recognitions honor the incredible contributions of our employees, whose dedication helps make BPUSD a place where all learners thrive. I also want to take a moment to thank our community for staying engaged and helping to make our recent District showcase event a success. It offered just a glimpse of the excellence and spirit within BPUSD, and we look forward to hosting more events that bring our community together. As we plan for the future, we invite you to take a moment to complete the BPUSD Community Survey below. Your voice matters. Your input will help us strengthen our schools and shape a shared vision for student success across our District. Superintendent Launches Student Advisory Council to Elevate Student Voice Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza launched a Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council – a brand-new initiative aimed at including student voices in shaping District goals, policies, and initiatives. The inaugural council includes ten students from the District’s three high schools: Baldwin Park High School, North Park Continuation High School, and Sierra Vista High School. Originally intending to select just one student per school, Dr. Mendoza said he was inspired to expand the group after receiving an influx of thoughtful applications. “I started this Council because I wanted to hear directly from students to ensure their voices help guide the decisions we make,” Dr. Mendoza said. Since its formation, the council has already had a strong start. Students have shared honest, thoughtful feedback, and the District has gained valuable insights into how to enhance student life and learning across campuses.
