Message from the Superintendent
September 4, 2024 MPUSD Families and Team Members, As each new school year begins, there is much excitement and hope for the teaching, learning, and relationships built within our school campuses. Amidst this excitement, today brings the horrific news of a school shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. I am deeply saddened and frustrated that we must endure yet another senseless act of violence. My sympathy and desire for comfort and healing extend to the Georgia community, especially the victims, their families, and educators at the school. As a parent and educator, I continue to be especially concerned about the mental and emotional impact these events may have on our children. Our school community has experienced many challenges in recent years and we have seen an increase in the volume of social and emotional challenges our students, their families, and our staff have endured. These types of violent events in schools and communities often have far-reaching impacts and may surface feelings of anxiety, fear, and depression among students, staff, and families. We want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff continue to be a top priority at MPUSD. We continue to be diligent in our safety and security measures to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect our students and staff. We also encourage everyone to speak up if they see or hear anything that could pose a threat to school or district safety. Below I have attached some resources that may be helpful as you talk to your children about these events. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your principal or to me at superintendentsmemo@mpusd.net if you feel your child needs support during this difficult time. We are here to serve and offer support during this challenging time.
