UPDATE: Current conditions and status of schools
MPUSD Families, Thank you for your grace and patience this week. There were many moving pieces and the district and your child’s school were communicating multiple times to families. We appreciate your continued support of MPUSD and understanding the complexities of navigating extreme weather, potential road closures, and keeping schools open to students and families. We could not have weathered this storm without your support and that of our MPUSD administrators, teachers and staff. For this, we are extremely grateful. Looking to the weekend and early next week, heavy rain and wind is predicted into Monday. We will continue to monitor the weather fronts and the impacts to any road or highway closures. While county officials stress this is a fluid situation, current models suggest the Salinas River height will peak late Friday and continue to decline throughout the weekend. Unless the situation shifts considerably, all MPUSD schools and programs will be open on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. (Reminder: Monday, January 16, 2023, we are closed in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day) . If news develops over the weekend we will be sure to message our families via ParentSquare. You can also check the district and school websites, as well as our social media accounts for any information. Also, due to the fact that there is a lot of misinformation being shared online, county officials urge the community to visit the Monterey County Office of Emergency Services website for the most up to date and accurate information. Finally, Monterey County offers residents the opportunity to text their zip code to 888777 to receive important updates about flooding and any road/highway impacts. We know how difficult this time is for many and our district is here to serve. If your family is experiencing hardship, please reach out so we can help support or provide resources your family. Stay safe. Stay dry. Make it a great weekend.
