HCS Honors Teachers with Knight Lights
Knight Light Recipient - Robin Dunadee We are honored to recognize our exceptional speech therapist, Robin Dunadee, a longstanding member of our school community. Over the years Robin has continued to be an integral part of the MTSS Committee. Not only does she share her expertise in speech and language development but has also diligently taken and organized notes to ensure that student support seamlessly follows them from year to year. Her contributions provide a strong foundation of support to our primary team, and her consistent efforts make a lasting impact on both our students and staff. Her dedication and hard work continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and the success of our school community. Knight Light Recipient - Caitlin Hertzendorf We are proud to recognize our dedicated speech therapist, Caitlin Hertzendorf. Caitlin has recently completed a certificate program in Assistive Technology and has shared that knowledge both in committee and meeting forums as well as with individual teachers. Additionally, she has provided assistance with assessments whenever needed in addition to providing classroom collaboration and support. As a valued member of the Elementary Steering Team, she also contributes to school-wide initiatives. Thank you for your dedication and exceptional contributions to our school community! Knight Light Recipient - Lauren Reynolds September was Suicide Prevention Month. Ms. Reynolds, one of our PE and Health teachers, decided to organize a few different events to help promote awareness on this topic. She even found ways for some of our upper-class student leaders to join the effort by acting as Mental Health Ambassadors. First, Ms. Reynolds created daily forum announcements, which provided facts about suicide awareness and prevention. The announcements were meant to destigmatize mental health conversations around the topic of suicide. One of the roles of the student ambassadors was to read the prevention messages in forum. Having students read the announcements was a great way to get other students to listen to the message, since it was coming from their peers. Each announcement ended with the following: As always, if you, or someone you know, may be experiencing suicidal ideations or thoughts, please tell a trusted adult as soon as possible. Throughout all of these conversations, just know that you are all important, you are all loved, and you are all integral building blocks to the foundation of our HCS family, and you are all needed in order for our HCS community to shine as bright as it does. Then, at the end of the month, Lauren and the ambassadors created a project in which students were encouraged to share a statement on the topic of “Why life is worth living.” Students placed their “Why” on a sticky note, and all the notes were arranged in a heart on the wall for students to see as they went to class each morning. To kick off the “Why” project, Lauren made a video of the mental health ambassadors filling out their sticky notes, and she shared it with all the students in forum. Thank you to Ms. Reynolds for going above and beyond to educate students on an important mental health-related topic!
