North Carolina Career Development Plans
Dear Parents/Guardians, As part of our ongoing commitment to prepare students for success beyond high school, we would like to inform you about the North Carolina Career Development Plan (CDP) and its importance in guiding students through their educational and career pathways. Per North Carolina state legislation (G.S. 115C-47 and G.S. 115C-81.1), all students must participate in a comprehensive Career Development Plan as part of their academic journey. This plan is designed to help students explore various career options, assess their skills and interests, and align those with future educational and career opportunities. Key Components of the Career Development Plan: Career Exploration : Students will engage in activities, assessments, and experiences that help them explore various career fields and identify potential areas of interest. Individualized Planning : Each student will work closely with their teachers and counselors to develop a personalized Career Development Plan to guide their course selections and post-secondary planning. Post-Secondary Preparation : The CDP includes preparation for both college and career opportunities, whether that be through academic courses, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, apprenticeships, or workforce training programs. Ongoing Monitoring and Support : Students will have opportunities to regularly review and adjust their plans as they progress through high school. CDP Requirement for Promotion: Please note that participation in the Career Development Plan is a state requirement for promotion in both the 8th and 10th grades . Students must complete the necessary components of their Career Development Plan as part of their academic and career preparation to be eligible for promotion to the next grade level. This ensures that they are actively engaging in career exploration and planning, which is vital for their long-term success. The Career Development Plan is essential in helping students make informed decisions about their future and ensuring that they are well-prepared for life after graduation. We encourage you to take an active role in your child's career exploration and development by discussing their interests, goals, and potential career paths with them. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our Career and Technical Education Director, Amy Draper, at 252-642-4065 or drapera@northampton.k12.nc.us. Thank you for your support in helping our students succeed!

Annual Military-Connected Student Survey 2024-25
Dear Parent or Guardian, In an effort to ensure that the unique needs of military-connected students are met, Session Law 2014-15 requires the North Carolina State Board of Education/North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to collect information on military-connected students. The goal is to help accommodate these students by providing them with support and consistency when their parents are deployed, when they are transitioning between schools, and at other pivotal times during their academic career. This mandatory collection started in the 2015-16 school year. The Session Law 2014-15 that describes this requirement can be accessed at: http://www.ncleg.net/Ses.../2013/Bills/House/PDF/H1060v3.pdf . If you or a member of your family is in the military, please fill out the following survey: https://forms.gle/HfCUbRkeNMjRXowu9

Final Bus Routes for 2024-2025 School Year
All Traditional Schools start back for students on Monday, August 26th, 2024! We are excited to see our students and know they will have an awesome school year ahead of them! The final Bus Routes as of Friday, August 23rd have been posted for each school. These routes have been updated to reflect several new enrollments that occurred last week, so times may have changed from what you were given at your school's Open House. Below are the links to each school's routes: Central Elementary School Conway Middle School Gaston STEM Leadership Academy Northampton County High School Some notes to remember: 1. Have your child outside at least 5-10 minutes before the estimated pick up time so our bus drivers can see your child and pick them up. 2. If you do not see your child's bus stop on the route, look for the nearest bus stop on the bus route. The bus driver and the school will add your child's bus stop to the route. 3. If you moved over the summer, please make sure your child's school has your new address on file. Verification forms are provided by the school to make sure contact information is correct. Please update this information and send back to the school so it can be changed in PowerSchool to update other systems, including our TIMS (transportation) system. Have a great first day of school!
