Winter Weather Decisions
Winter Weather School Closures: A Behind-The-Scenes Look As we enter the heart of winter, we want to keep everyone informed about how school delays and closures are decided. We understand that these decisions impact families, and we want to provide insight into the factors that guide us in making the best choice for safety. Factors in School Closings: The safety of all students and staff—whether they're driving or riding the bus is our top priority. While main roads may be clear, we often encounter icy conditions on back roads, especially those at higher elevations or with less sun exposure. In these cases, the roads can remain hazardous longer, making a delay or closure necessary. Logistics of Decision-Making: It takes approximately 90 minutes for all of our buses to safely complete their routes. Our dedicated road crew begins checking conditions as early as 4:00 AM, and we aim to make a decision by 6:00 AM to allow enough time for families to prepare. Many of our buses and car riders are on the road around sunrise, which is often when conditions like a flash freeze can create unexpected hazards. We understand that winter weather decisions can be challenging, and we truly appreciate your patience. While we may not always be able to meet everyone’s preferences, please know that the safety of our students and staff is always our guiding principle. Thank you for your understanding, and we wish everyone a safe, warm winter! #TeamTowns #WinterWeather #SafetyFirst
