Parent and Community Presentation - Vaping and Marij...
Hello SKUSD Families, Staff, and Rosamond Community Members, I would like to take a moment to discuss a sensitive subject with you, illegal drug use. Unfortunately, this is a serious problem that has impacted our students and community heavily, especially as we have returned to campus after Covid 19. The DEA, (Drug Enforcement Agency), has also warned that across the United States we are seeing an increased risk of fentanyl poisoning in the student population. There is also a rise in vaping and marijuana use. Are you aware of all the ways to hide marijuana? Would you think to check your child’s pens, Coca-Cola cans, or hair brushes? Do you know what signs to look for when identifying drug abuse? Are you aware of the Emoji combinations that are used to depict each drug or drug combination? These are all questions that we want you to be able to answer. Southern Kern Unified School District would like to invite you to a community presentation on Vaping and Marijuana . Hosted by : SKUSD Parent & Community Center Presented by: Al Hradecky of Impact Canine Solutions When : Tuesday, August 15th @ 6:00 PM Where : Rosamond High School Early College Campus - Gym Childcare for this event will be provided in the Rosamond High School Early College Campus Library. There are a variety of sources tracking the use and effects of marijuana across the United States. The National Institute on Drug Abuse has a warning on their website stating, “Research suggests that marijuana use is likely to precede use of other licit and illicit substances”. According to the CDC’s website, (Centers for Disease Control), “Marijuana use directly affects the brain, specifically the parts of the brain responsible for memory, learning, attention, decision-making, coordination, emotion, and reaction time. Infants, children, and teens (who still have developing brains) are especially susceptible to the adverse effects of marijuana”. Also, “Long-term or frequent marijuana use has been linked to increased risk of psychosis or schizophrenia in some users”. Please join us! We look forward to seeing you on August 15th. Sincerely, Fallon Mitchell SKUSD Grant Coordinator - CCSPP (661) 256-5000 Ext. 1115
