Important Update: After-School Tutoring Schedule
Parents and Guardians, This is a quick announcement regarding the after-school tutoring program. Please be aware that after-school tutoring will be CANCELED on the following two dates: Thursday, November 20th Tuesday, December 2nd Tutoring will resume its normal schedule on Thursday, December 4th. Each week, we’ll share important updates, upcoming events, and reminders. Our goal is to keep you engaged in your child’s school experience and ensure you have the information you need to help them succeed. Thank you for partnering with us in making this a wonderful school year! In this issue: Archery Sign-Ups Are Open! Students can sign up to participate in the Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program, sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Please complete one form per participant and return it to your child’s school office. Don’t miss this chance to join a fun and exciting team! ACT Prep Class We are excited to share a valuable academic opportunity. Mrs. Wilson will be chaperoning a group of students to the Arch Ford Co-op on Tuesday, December 2, for a special ACT Prep class. This workshop, led by Cantrell and Waller, is an excellent resource for students seeking to improve their ACT scores. Many of our students are taking the December ACT, and this class would be a fantastic final review before the exam. If your student is interested in attending, please have them speak directly to Mrs. Wilson to secure their spot. Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive To support families within our own school, we are once again organizing our annual food drive to pack Thanksgiving boxes for the holiday break. If your family is in a position to contribute, your donations of non-perishable items would be deeply appreciated. We have organized suggestions by grade level to help us gather a wide variety of items. All items must be sent to the school by Wednesday, November 19th. Donation Suggestions by Grade Level 7th Grade: Canned corn, canned soups, canned green beans, gravy mix 8th Grade: Boxed mashed potatoes, canned pastas (e.g., Raviolis), stuffing mix 9th Grade: Macaroni and cheese, bags of flavored rice mix, cranberry sauce 10th Grade: Oatmeal packets, granola bars, pancake mix 11th Grade: Plastic jars of peanut butter and jelly, syrup, Pop-Tarts 12th Grade: Spaghetti noodles, plastic containers of spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, or cheese crackers A Special Request: Turkeys Needed! To complete these holiday boxes, we are also in need of 15 donated turkeys. Thank you for your incredible generosity. South Side School District Family Center
The South Side Family Center is excited to announce it will be opening next week! This new space is dedicated to supporting our students and their families by providing helpful resources, care, and connection within our school community. The first day it will be open is Friday, November 7, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Then it will be open weekly on the following days and times: Wednesdays from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm Fridays from 9:00 am - 11:00 am The Family Center features a family pantry offering a variety of essential items to meet household needs, including: Nonperishable food items Hygiene products Baby products, baby food, and formula Laundry detergents To ensure fairness and accessibility for all, please note the following Pantry Guidelines: Eligibility: Pantry access is limited to parents or legal guardians of students currently enrolled at South Side School District. Only individuals listed on school records as parents or legal guardians will be able to use the pantry. Proof of identity is required. Shopping Limits: Item limits are based on family size to help ensure that all families are served fairly. Family size may be subject to verification. Bags Provided: Outside tote bags are not permitted. Bags will be provided to you according to your household size. Food Pick Up: . If you wish not to come and shop, bags can be made for you. You will be assigned a number and then able to pick it up at the administration building. Contact Julie Hicks via ParentSquare to request a pick up. Confidentiality: Your name and information will be confidential and not shared with anyone. We are excited to introduce this new resource to our South Side families and look forward to working together to meet the needs of our community. Hours of operation will be announced each week. Each family can visit the center once a week. High School Gym Closed for Maintenance
The high school gym will be closed until Monday morning while the floor is being waxed. For everyone’s safety and to protect the new finish, no one is allowed in the gym during this time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we take care of our facilities!

Trunk or Treat Reminder!
South Side High School Boys Athletics invites everyone to join us for a fun evening of Trunk or Treat and a Ragball Game on Thursday, October 30, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the softball field. Admission is free, and local churches and school clubs will be passing out candy to children—bring your family for a safe and festive night of Halloween fun!

Elementary: Monday: Healthy Bodies Don’t Do Drugs – Wear your workout clothes! Tuesday: Give Drugs the Boot – Dress in your best western wear! Wednesday: Don’t Let Drugs Rain on Your Parade – Come as wacky weather! Thursday: Follow Your Dreams – Wear your cozy pajamas! Friday: Say Boo to Drugs – Wear your favorite costume (no masks or weapons, please). High School: Monday: Wear Red For Me and the "6-7" Others You May Help Stay Drug-Free — Wear red! Tuesday: Don't Duo Drugs - Duo Day! Wednesday: My Future is Key - Be Drug Free - Dress as your future profession! Thursday: Team Up Against Drugs - Spirit Day (Wear Blue & White)! Friday: Say Boo to Drugs - Halloween costume day (no masks or weapons)! Let’s make this a fun and meaningful week as we learn to make positive, healthy choices! Financial Aid Night Senior parents and students are invited to join us on Monday, October 28th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Old Auditorium for Financial Aid/FAFSA Night. This event is an important opportunity to learn about the financial aid process, discover the financial aid and scholarships available for your student’s future, and receive hands-on assistance with completing the FAFSA. Representatives from the UACCM Financial Aid Office will be on-site to walk families through the process step by step, including applying for state aid such as the Arkansas Academic Challenge (Lottery) Scholarship. All seniors and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Don’t miss this valuable night of support and guidance as you prepare for life after graduation!
