Updates from 86 | Sept. 25, 2023 Board Vacancy On Sept. 18, Debbie Levinthal resigned from her position on the District 86 Board of Education. We are grateful for Ms. Levinthal’s hard work and dedicated service on behalf of the district and community during the past 2 1/2 years. Per board policy and the Illinois School Code , the vacancy created by member Levinthal's departure must be filled no more than 60 days after it occurred. The board plans to discuss the process for filling this vacancy, including how information about applying will be communicated to the public, during its rescheduled regular action meeting at Hinsdale Central on Oct. 2. Superintendent Search As we shared last week, District 86 is partnering with School Exec Connect to conduct a search for the district’s new superintendent. As part of this search, we are asking for help with the development of a profile that will be used to identify strong candidates for the position. There are a couple ways the community can assist us with this important endeavor. Survey Take a brief online survey (six questions that will take less than 10 minutes to answer) between now and Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. Participation in this process will be completely confidential. English version of the survey Spanish version of the survey Open Forums Attend the open forum in the library at Hinsdale Central on Sept. 27 and/or the one in the Little Theater at Hinsdale South on Sept. 28. Both forums will begin at 7 p.m. Please visit https://bit.ly/45ZkPla for the latest information and updates about the search process. Feedback Surveys The deadline for parents/guardians to opt themselves and/or their children out of taking the feedback surveys we are administering this fall is today (Sept. 25) at 4 p.m. Below are the forms that can be used to complete this process. We have also attached both surveys to this message for those who want to review them. As a reminder, this award recognizes individuals for the significant role they play in their students' education, and the positive impact they have on the lives of those they teach. The nominations are submitted by first-year students entering the university who want to celebrate the teachers who have made a difference in their lives. We want to congratulate Mr. Scheldrup and Mrs. Orloff-Bowman on this well-deserved honor. Standout performances for the Red Devils included senior Jack Mulligan shooting a 68 for the varsity boys team, and senior Caroline Owens shooting a 70 for the varsity girls team. The Hornets took second place at the varsity level behind strong performances by Devin Cabello (shot a 78) and Tommy Gneiser (shot a 79).
