IMPORTANT: Student Safety Amid Social Media Threats
Dear LESD79 Families, I hope this message finds you well. We are writing to address an important issue that has surfaced in recent days involving social media threats targeting schools. These threats, while often non-credible, can create significant disruptions to learning and impact the well-being of our students and staff. It is crucial for both students and parents to understand the vital role they play in maintaining a safe school environment. Parents and guardians, it is extremely important to remind your children of the following key points: 1. Do Not Share or Repost Threats : Sharing or reposting threats, even if done out of concern, can cause unnecessary alarm and interfere with investigations. The goal of those making these threats is often to create fear and chaos, and the continued circulation of such posts amplifies that impact. 2. Report to Authorities or a Trusted Adult: If your child encounters a threatening post, the best course of action is to immediately report it to a trusted adult, such as a teacher or administrator, and to law enforcement. This ensures that the appropriate authorities can quickly and effectively investigate the situation. You can also submit a report directly to district administrators through our Vector Solutions platform on our website . 3. Stay Informed and Cautious: We encourage families to have open conversations with their children about the responsible use of social media and the consequences of sharing harmful content. Those found to be inappropriately sharing or posting threatening content will be subject to disciplinary action per the LESD79 Discipline Matrix found in the Student/Parent Handbook . The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We are grateful for the partnership of our school community in helping us maintain a secure and focused learning environment. By working together and responding to these situations with care and caution, we can prevent unnecessary disruptions and keep our schools safe. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Sincerely, Carter Davidson Ed.D. Superintendent Litchfield Elementary School District #79

These changes are based on feedback gathered from our engagement surveys and interviews, reflecting significant themes identified by all stakeholders: Student Behavior, Accountability, and Consistent Discipline. Key updates include: Age-Appropriate Consequences: We have created more concise consequences tailored to each age group (K-2, 3-5, and 6-8), ensuring they align with the students' developmental readiness and comply with legal requirements for disciplining K-2 students.
