Jt. 1 Jottings from Dr. Villalobos Last year, the Board of Education reviewed a district request list of over sixty items, ranking their "Top 10" areas of focus. This list was discussed at the August Board meeting, and one of the focus areas identified was Central Middle School Athletics. A team met in September and October to review the purpose and benefits of adding such programming, the required resources, and the framework necessary. Mr. Viste, Central Principal, and Mr. Stephans, Central Assistant Principal, reported these findings and next steps at the October Board meeting. Part of this discussion included the distribution of a district-wide survey to all families in helping determine the areas of interest for our students. That survey is linked below, and we look forward to your feedback so that we may continue to plan and work to meet the needs of our families. Our goal is to lay the groundwork necessary for school-sponsored activities this year, and begin reintroducing opportunities starting with the 2024/25 academic year. Jt. 1 Jottings from Dr. Villalobos Dear HJT1 Families, I hope this letter finds you well. As we head into the winter season (sooner than we expected with the snow we received last week!), we wanted to take a moment to discuss the upcoming Wisconsin winter weather and how it may affect our district. Wisconsin winters can be both beautiful and challenging, with snow and cold temperatures becoming a regular part of our daily lives. As we prepare for the winter season, we want to ensure that our students' safety and well-being remain our top priority. We will closely monitor weather conditions and follow the guidance of local authorities to make informed decisions regarding school closures or delays. More information regarding the processes we use and the information and collaboration that occurs can be found in the letter linked below. We kindly request your assistance and support during this time. Here are a few ways you can help: Please ensure your child is dressed warmly with appropriate winter clothing, such as coats, hats, gloves, and boots. Stay updated with school communications, as we will use various channels to relay important information regarding closures or delays. Be prepared with alternative arrangements for your child in case of a school closure. This might include coordinating with family or neighbors. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as we work together to ensure the safety of all our students. We understand that winter weather can sometimes disrupt our schedules, and we will do our best to minimize any inconvenience. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our winter weather procedures, please feel free to reach out to us. We are here to assist you and provide any necessary support. Thank you for being part of our school district family, and we look forward to a safe and enjoyable winter season for all. Stay Informed! HJT1 Family eNewsletter 10/25/23
Jt. 1 Jottings from Dr. Villalobos Dear HJT1 Families and Team Members, As part of our ongoing commitment to making school safety an area of focus, one of our three Board Goals is to Continue to Make School Safety a Priority . We do this by focusing on three critical steps: Improve and augment safety and crisis management plans – including an annual report and collaboration with Hartford Police and Hartford Fire & Rescue Departments. Practice drills to better enhance preparedness. Upon completion of drills, debrief to assist in upgrading safety practices. Last night our Board of Education reviewed each of our School Safety Drills Reports at our regularly scheduled board meeting. This agenda item was highly relevant in light of the events that transpired in a neighboring district earlier this week. During this report we emphasized our work with local safety agencies in order to continuously enhance our safety measures and crisis management plans. We further talked about how the drills we regularly practice enhance our preparedness and ensure that our school community is well-prepared for emergency situations. Finally, after each drill, we debrief about our response and procedures to ensure that we are continually learning from, and improving upon, our practices. Each of these helps maintain our commitment to school safety. Our thoughts are with our neighboring school district and its affected students, families, and staff during this challenging time. We understand that hearing about incidents anywhere, but especially close to home, can cause concern about the safety of your child(ren) while at school. If your child(ren) are asking or talking about this situation, or if you would like to continue this conversation at home, we’ve provided a few talking points, as well as a resource, to guide your conversation: "We are in a very safe school. We practice with drills, and the adults are here to keep kids safe." “We have multiple safety precautions in place, and our adults at school work with Officer Whipple regularly to make sure we are safe.” For further guidance, you may review the resource "Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers" from the National Association of School Psychologists. As always, we encourage you and your child(ren) to report anything suspicious or concerning to school team members or law enforcement so that we can investigate and take appropriate action. If you need additional support, please feel free to contact the building principal and/or the pupil services staff to support you and your child(ren). Please know that the safety of our students, staff, and visitors in our buildings is paramount to our Board. Our schools remain safe and secure. Any situations we do encounter are addressed using the well-established safety protocols we have in place. We are dedicated to keeping you informed about the safety and well-being of our students, and are fully committed to maintaining a secure learning environment.
