The survey will ask questions about the behaviors of students in the 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grades, including questions about school climate, mental health, violence, bullying, and substance use. The information we receive will assist us and our community partners in working to promote mental health and prevent substance use and other problem behaviors. We want to ensure that all parents and caregivers are notified the survey is being conducted as well as provide you with as much information about the survey as possible. As a parent or caregiver, you have the right to prohibit your child’s participation. The following facts about the survey will help you make an informed decision: Participation in this survey is completely voluntary. Students will be instructed by their proctor that they can skip any questions they do not understand or choose not to answer. If they have any questions or concerns after taking this survey, they are instructed to talk with their school counselor or a trusted adult. The survey is designed to protect each student’s privacy; it is anonymous and confidential. Students will not put their names on the survey, and no student will ever have their individual responses reported. The survey is well tested, having been administered to over 2 million Pennsylvania students since the 1990’s. The information collected has proved invaluable to prevention planners in selecting programming to promote healthy youth development. You can request a list of the survey questions by visiting this link: https://epis.psu.edu/PAYS/question. For more information about the survey, including a list of Frequently Asked Questions, please visit www.pays.pa.gov. The survey will be administered during the school day later this fall and will take one class period to complete. If you do not want your child to participate, please submit the form by following the link to the building your child attends. 2025 PAYS Survey Passive Parent Permission Form Grade 6, 8 2025 PAYS Survey Passive Parent Permission Form Grade 10, 12 If you have questions about the survey, please do not hesitate to contact your building principal. Sharing Possible Road Closure/Traffic Concern Next Week - 8th Street Pennsburg We received notice that sewer work is scheduled to take place September 2 - 4 in the 100 block of W 8th Street Pennsburg. Crews have been asked to start the work after school traffic subsides, around 8:00 AM each day. The road is expected to be passable at the end of each day with the use of road plates. If things go according to plan, this is what Pennsburg Borough has told us to expect: On Wednesday, September 3rd, the road will be CLOSED during the day. On September 2nd & 4th one lane will be closed, and there will be flaggers in the immediate area. The borough doesn’t expect a significant impact on school transportation, but we wanted to make you all aware so you can plan accordingly. A Message About School Safety & Security Earlier this week, a tragic event took place in a Minnesota Catholic School. Our thoughts and hearts are with the students, staff, families, and members of the community who were impacted by this awful tragedy. You may have also seen recent news coverage about “swatting” incidents at Villanova, and a local Chester County High School this week. “Swatting” is a term used to describe false reports made in an attempt to drive emergency response teams to a location where there is no emergency. We want you to know that our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We take any and all reports of potential threats seriously, and we are making every effort to maintain an environment where students and staff feel safe. We would like to continue to encourage our students and school community to report anything that could constitute a threat to school safety. As always, we work closely with local law enforcement to assist in these situations. Reports can always be made with a staff member or through our anonymous report system Safe2Say Something. New Website Coming NEXT FRIDAY! Big news—you heard it here first! Our website is getting a major facelift and our new look will officially launch next Friday, September 5, 2025! Solar Eclipse - April 8
UPSD Families - As you are likely aware, a solar eclipse is predicted to occur on Monday, April 8, 2024. The eclipse is expected to pass over Pennsylvania between 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM, with 90% totality of the eclipse occurring between 3:15 PM and 3:20 PM. This unique terrestrial occurrence will bring excitement and learning opportunities to our community and present unique challenges. Our schools will remain open as usual during the eclipse, which coincides with our regular dismissal times . Families wishing to sign their child/children out of school early on Monday, April 8, 2024, may do so by submitting an early dismissal request to their school attendance office by Friday, April 5, 2024. Please note, early dismissals must occur within the assigned time frame to ensure there is no disruption to the regular dismissal process. Assigned Sign-Out Times: Middle School & High School - No later than 2:00 PM Elementary - No later than 2:30 PM Please be aware, depending on factors beyond our control the eclipse could cause delays in students dismissal on our roads. We encourage you to educate your students about the harms of looking at the eclipse without proper eyewear as it can cause permanent eye damage. Safety is paramount, particularly when protecting our children's eyes. Looking directly at the sun during an eclipse can be harmful! More information about safely watching the eclipse can be found on the NASA website or PA Department of Education . Thank you! UPSD Administration
