Welcome Back
Welcome back to the Highland School District! Weâre excited to kick off the 2025â2026 school year and see our students and staff back in classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds. Whether youâre returning or joining us for the first time, weâre glad youâre here. This is a fresh start for all of usâand for me personally, as I begin my first year as superintendent. Iâm looking forward to a great year ahead. The first day of school for grades 1st through 12th is August 25. Kindergarten and Transition to Kindergarten (TK) begin on August 28. We are nearing completion of the HVAC system at Highland High School. This project is scheduled to be finished prior to the start of school. The School Board will soon begin reviewing and prioritizing the next phase of projects under the 6-year levy. We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our community in helping us maintain and improve our learning environments. This year, the School Board has directed me to explore the cost savings and logistics of consolidating Marcus Whitman Cowiche Elementary and Tieton Elementary School into one elementary school. As we begin this important work, we are committed to gathering input from both staff and community members. If you are interested in serving on a community committee to help guide this process, please contact the district office. We also want to share two important updates for the upcoming school year: Late Start Mornings : Our late start mornings have moved to Wednesdays this year. Previously, they were held on Thursdays. Â MWC will begin at 9:00, TES will begin at 9:15 and HMS/HHS will begin at 10:00. Afterschool Program Update : After 15 amazing years, our afterschool program will not be continuing next school year. Weâve been fortunate to receive state grant funding that made this program possibleâbut unfortunately, that grant is no longer being offered. We know how much this program has meant to our families, and weâre so proud of the community it helped build. Â We are actively applying for new grants with the hope of bringing the program back in the future. As always, I welcome your questions, ideas, and feedback. Iâm excited for the year ahead and look forward to making this a year of growth, learning, and quality education for every student. Â Warmest Regards, Mindy Schultz Superintendent
