  • Spring 2025 PoL Update

District Portrait of a Learner Development Spring Update - May 2025 The District Portrait of a Learner Design Team, composed of teachers and administrators from each school, as well as high school students, has been hard at work this year as we've continued the development of this comprehensive, district-wide vision for learning. The purpose of this document is to provide an update on the work done to date, as well as provide some clarity on where we are going next in the process.  You can download a PDF version of this update at this link .  Prior Work: We began working in the 2023/2024 school year on the development of a comprehensive, district-wide Portrait of a Learner. You can find a quick summary sent last year at this link . Once established, a PoL becomes the framework for learning, not simply teaching in and of itself. We spend considerable time talking about curriculum and content, but this PoL work focuses on the learning experiences that we want for our students and educators alike. As we establish this initial version of the PoL, we are setting our eyes towards what we desire in our practice and expectations of students, not limiting ourselves by what is in place or happening today.  One year ago, we sent out a Definition of Learning draft that had been developed by students, staff, and administrators for feedback to the entire community. This definition was our starting point, as we need to have an aligned starting point about our beliefs about learning; what authentic learning is, how it happens best, and even when and where it should occur. The PoL Design Team further refined that definition as the basis of our future work, and the final version was shared with a welcome back message this past fall. You can view the finalized Definition of Learning here .  Current Year Work:  With the basis having been established for what we believe learning should be, our work over the course of this current year focused on developing the Core Competencies; the specific skills and traits we want our students to develop and refine throughout their career as a Triton student. This work was informed by the entire community through the prior Definition of Learning work, and was led by the Design Team, but involved students and all educators at various times over the course of this academic year, and on multiple occasions. Most recently, each of our schools engaged as a collective group of educators around this work in their April meetings. As a result of this work, we have identified Core Competencies that include 5 Roles and 6 Dispositions that we believe are core to the development of effective learners. Simply put, words matter, and these have been considered, pondered, and retweaked at length before arriving at these 11 qualities that we believe to be the most refined and foundational factors to our students' success. With a fully developed PoL, these Core Competencies included below become the foundational elements of the vision as we continue the development of the Portrait this summer. It is important to note that within this design, we do NOT see each role lined up exclusively and solely with a given disposition, as the dispositions apply to several or all of the roles. For example, we want to see Curious Innovators, but we also want Ethical Innovators. Similarly, it is just as important to be a Curious Problem Solver as it is to be a Curious Collaborator. In the final PoL design, we will integrate this interchangeability in the various ways the PoL will be developed and embedded into our daily work in the coming years. This isn't new work, it's aligning our efforts. In addition to developing these Core Competencies, we have also begun to craft "I Can" statements, which outline the specific skills and actions we want our students to be able to do. These statements are arranged by Roles, with the Dispositions appearing throughout the various statements. Further, these statements will clearly articulate skills that we would expect to see at various stages through a child's development, from early elementary school on up through high school. These will be finalized by the Design Team this summer and shared along with our next steps this fall.  What's Next? As mentioned, the PoL Design Team will be coming together this summer to finalize the Portrait of a Learner. In addition, we will be working as a team to begin to develop the early connections of where this vision will be embedded and guide our daily work as educators and as a community, starting first with the many things already happening across the district. The development of the PoL is just the start, as the exciting and impactful work is in how we continue, refine, or change our practice to meet this vision for learning. As we review and consider the data for the recent SQM surveys that students, staff, and parents completed this winter, we will integrate that learning into our work as well. The PoL will remain a work in progress, adapting to our collective efforts.  We will launch the fully developed PoL to all faculty and staff when everyone returns for the 2025/2026 school year in August, along with the first planned integration into our learning practices for next year. A full sharing with all families and the Community as a whole will immediately follow as we open the 2025/2026 school year. There is still much more to come! For any questions, please contact Superintendent Brian Forget at   Brian.Forget@tritonschools.org .

District Digest May 2, 2025 Important Dates May 26: Schools Closed June 7th: Triton Graduation June 16th: Last Day of School   This Weekend - THS Presents “Puffs” Get ready to experience a magical adventure like never before as Triton Regional High School proudly presents Puffs, a magical comedy by Matt Cox that runs parallel to the story of a certain famous boy wizard. Set in 1991, Puffs follows the journey of Wayne Hopkins (played by Senior Izze Turner), an ordinary orphan who suddenly learns he’s a wizard. Thrown into the world of magic, Wayne finds himself sorted into the least appreciated house at the most famous magical school in England—the Puffs. Unlike their well-known peers, the Puffs are often overlooked, underestimated, and, frankly, not very good at magic. But that doesn’t stop them from trying! Over the course of seven years filled with trials, turmoil, and plenty of laughs, Wayne and his fellow Puffs challenge expectations, embracing teamwork, resilience, and self-discovery along the way. This fast-paced and hilarious production will keep audiences laughing from start to finish while also delivering heartfelt lessons on perseverance and self-worth. With an energetic cast, witty humor, and a fresh perspective on a well-loved story, Puffs is a must-see for all ages! Don’t miss your chance to witness the magic!  There are only THREE performances: May 2nd & 3rd at 7:00 PM May 4th (Special Matinee) at 2:00 PM Tickets are available online or at the door—whichever is most convenient for you! Dear Triton Community, I am following up on my message to you at the beginning of April regarding our budget development and information sessions. We held 2 sessions in April, and our final scheduled session will be held virtually on Tuesday, May 6th at 4:00 PM. As promised in my message last month, I am sharing the Zoom details below.  Newbury's Town Meeting was this past Monday, with Rowley's (May 5) and Salisbury's (May 19) still to come, with override votes scheduled in Newbury and Rowley at the May 13th general town elections. We want to encourage anyone with questions about the Triton budget for the 2025-2026 school year to attend this last virtual budget information session to have your questions answered.  You can join the Zoom meeting on Tuesday, May 6th at 4:00 PM by clicking on the link below.  Join Zoom Meeting:  https://tritonschools-org.zoom.us/j/82553429986?pwd=IjEbo2tgONUYVvofcvhOzlfZY23g4I.1 I've also attached documents at the link below with a list of the vote dates and some basic background on the budget, including a summary of the changes.   Thank you,  Linda Linda Litcofsky Chair, Triton Regional School Committee Linda.Litcofsky@tritonschools.org
