Thank you for taking the time our to read our CTE Quarterly Newsletter. This year our classes are in full swing with some new subjects and new teachers. Each year, we assess the job market needs of Fort Worth and adjust our programs to include in demand jobs that are high wage earning. This year we have begun some new and exciting programs that you can read more about below. With the building of the new CTE wing in the reconstruction of the high school, we are anxious to see the potential of our students in new facilities with up to date technology for STEM and new labs for our Architecture and Construction pathways. We are excited for the future of our Castleberry Lions! PROGRAM SPOTLIGHTS DECA Jackie Auger DECA students are deeply engaged in their preparation for upcoming competitions, dedicating significant time and effort to study and practice. This commitment involves not only mastering the foundational knowledge relevant to their specific events—such as marketing, finance, hospitality, and management—but also honing their practical skills through mock scenarios and role-plays. This month they are participating in a mock competition to prepare for them for the upcoming regional competition. They will also be taking a standardized test to show their business skills. Part of their preparation is completing volunteer hours. This year students spent time helping the local Habitat for Humanity to build homes for people in need. This is the second year they have partnered with Wells Fargo to help. yearbook Michelle Owen The Practicum and Advanced Graphic Design students at CHS have been dedicated to creating the 2024-25 yearbook. These talented students invest their Friday nights capturing memorable moments at CHS football games, as well as attending various extracurricular events to ensure all student clubs and activities are featured. The yearbook is primarily composed of student-generated content, showcasing the vibrant life of our school community. Alongside event highlights, you can look forward to sections featuring students' pets, cars, dress-up days, pep rallies, theater productions, and mariachi performances. This collaborative effort reflects the diverse experiences and memories that make our high school year unique! Ready to order your yearbook? Go here to order. esPORTS Michelle Owen This years Esports club is more popular than ever. Afterschool most days, students meet in Rick Aguillon's room to practice their skills against each other. Some of the games include Super Smash Bros. and Mario Cart. They are currently honing their skills to compete in a tournament next month. This competition invites students from DFW in grades 3-12 to compete for prizes. We wish them luck at this tournament and hope they will bring home some more trophies! EDUCATION AND TRAINING Brandy Aylesbury The Education and Training students are excited to have started their hands-on experience with their mentor teachers at the elementary campuses! They’re working alongside teachers from all three schools, getting a real peek into what it’s like to be in the teaching profession. During this time, our students are helping out in a variety of ways. They’re working with small groups of students to develop their skills, reading aloud to classes, and providing one-on-one support to individual students. This experience not only allows them to learn about teaching but also helps them make a positive impact on the younger students they work with. It’s a great opportunity for them to see how teachers inspire and support their students every day! College, carrer, and military readiness (ccmr) Michelle Owen CCMR is an important part of the high school and districts accountability. Part of our district improvement plan is to increase the amount of students who are graduating college and career ready to 100% as determined by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). For the past year we have been partnering with T3 (Tarrant to & Through). With this partnership, we have welcomed three college counselors to work with our students on college and technical school applications, FAFSA, and college standardized testing. This partnership has also allowed us to welcome a career readiness coach, who will specifically work with students who do not plan to attend school after they graduate. This coach helps students apply for and interview for their future jobs straight out of high school. For more information on CCMR please visit CCMR on the CHS website. imms AV tech and IT Kimberly Phillips AV Tech finished design elements, and have started working on an escape room. Students later will work in Adobe Illustrator creating snowflakes, lanterns, gingerbread houses. IT has began working on web design, and created an about me webpage in Smore. Also, exploring the career path of a web designer, and education. Students analyze trends, and practices. Architecture and CONSTRUCTION Michelle Owen For the first time in Castleberry we have introduced an Electrical and Architectural Drafting and Design pathway. Electrical students have started to learn about electrical safety, light switch installation, and wiring. They are currently starting a project where they take a small framed wall and install electrical outlets, like they would do in a new home being build. This knowledge will give these students a head start when continuing their education outside of high school as an electrician. CTE ADVISORY BOARD UPDATES FALL MEETING The CTE Advisory Board met in conjunction with the ACE program to bring together local businesses and government officials to discuss and celebrate our CTE students. While attendees ate Italian food catered by Rockwood Golf Course, DECA students and CTE staff discussed the successes of our students and their currents needs of volunteers and professional dress for the competitions. ACE afterschool program celebrated their students exploration of careers in the elementary schools and middle schools. Together, the luncheon was very successful. If you have a local business and would be interested in join our advisory board, please contact Jackie Auger at augerj@castleberryisd.net.
