Around Finley Schools May 2024 Celebrating the 2023-2024 School Year The end of the school year is upon us, which also brings a time of celebration. Most importantly, 65 Finley graduates will cross the stage the first weekend of June. We are proud of your accomplishments, Class of '24! I would also like to recognize Steve Finley and Susan Schwartz as they leave for retirement. Both have given many years to the Finley School District and our students. You will be missed. Although this is our last newsletter this school year, please be watching for communication coming from ParentSquare that will announce important days and reminders as we get closer to the 2024-2025 school year. The district and staff will be working together to communicate a calendar very soon. Thank you for an incredible 2023-2024 school year! Athletics Update RVHS Panthers Update The baseball team was crowned the EWAC East League Champions with an overall record of 19-2 and a league record of 8-0. This is the second year in a row the team has been EWAC League Champions. We were the #1 seed going into the District 5 tournament, played for the district championship on May 10, and the team is WIAA Semifinals bound on May 24 in Ephrata. We celebrated our Seniors on Friday, May 3. The softball team finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-6 and a league record of 6-2. We secured the #2 seed into the district tournament and hosted Cle Elum on May 14. The District 5 tournament ended on May 17 at Kiwanis Park in Yakima against Granger. We celebrated our Seniors on Friday, May 3. The boys and girls track team just wrapped up another EWAC East League Championship. This is the third year in a row the boys and girls have been East League Champions. The District 5 Championships was in Cle Elum on May 15. We celebrated our Seniors on Friday, May 2. FMS Falcons Update The Finley Middle School spring sports teams are in full swing. We have one baseball team, as well as one fastpitch softball team. The baseball team currently has a record of 1-4, while the softball team has a record of 2-3. The season ends May 22. Finley Elementary School Kinder Registration Do you have a child ready to start kindergarten this fall? It's kindergarten registration time! To register for kindergarten, your child must be 5 years old on or before August 27, 2024. Please make sure to bring the following: Age Verification: Birth Certificate, hospital/physician's certificate Proof of Residency: A utility bill with your name Immunization Records Completed Registration Packet from the Elementary School Office, or fill it out on our website here . Finley Middle School Library Trip 7th grade students took a field trip to the Mid-Columbia Library. Finley's Finest in April Congratulations to Finley's Finest for April! History in the Halls Student work from history class is decorating our hallways. River View High School Reality Fair On May 16, RVHS seniors dove into the world of post-graduation careers and monthly budgeting simulations. Thanks to Jennifer Ward, RVHS Family and Consumer Sciences/Financial Literacy Teacher, for organizing this event every year, to all the volunteers helping at each station, and to our partner WSECU Credit Union in Spokane for their support. FFA Updates WA State FFA Convention Congratulations to Finley FFA members, Shyann Kriewald, Kyia Miles, Taylor Russell, Soren Miles, Ava Teagle, Alexzandria Kellogg, and Makaia Gorman, for their outstanding achievements at the 94th Washington State FFA Convention, held at Washington State University in Pullman, WA, from May 9-12, 2024. The dedication, hard work, and passion exhibited by these individuals have earned commendation and recognition at the state level. Read more here. Finley FFA Awarded Grant for Student Transport Vehicle Finley FFA is proud to announce that the chapter has been awarded a generous grant of $40,000 from the Washington State FFA Foundation. This grant will enable Finley FFA to purchase a student transport vehicle, enhancing transportation for members to various FFA activities, competitions, and educational events. Read more here. Finley Balanced Calendar Community Forums Finley school parents/guardians are invited to learn more about the balanced calendar proposal and share your feedback during one of our community forums: 6:00 PM in the River View High School Commons Wednesday, May 8th or Monday, May 13th Finley School District is exploring a balanced calendar. April 2024 Around Finley Schools
Around Finley Schools April 2024 Athletics Update RVHS Panthers Update We've hit the middle of the season for Panther Spring Sports. Fastpitch softball has both a varsity and junior varsity team with five seniors turned out. Andy Clayton is our new head coach and has led his team to a 6-2 overall record. We start league play this week. Baseball has both a varsity and junior varsity team with five seniors turned out. Longtime coach Brian Eisenbarth has led his team to a 10-2 overall record and a league record of 2-0. The two league wins were a sweep against the defending state champion, Tri-Cities Prep. Senior night for both baseball and softball is Friday, May 3 . The Panther track team is off to a great start with 76 student athletes out, including 12 seniors. Coach Ron Curbow hosted our home invite on March 26 with both the boys and girls on top of the team scores. Senior day for the track team is Thursday, May 2 . FMS Falcons Update Spring sports practices have begun at the middle school. We have one team for both baseball and softball. They begin playing games the week of April 22 . Our 8th graders run track for the high school team. Finley Elementary School Viewing the Eclipse Some 4th and 5th graders at Finley Elementary got to check out the April 8th eclipse using pinholes in cardboard! Finley Middle School Mrs. Rice making the start of lunch at FMS exciting! FMS celebrated our incredible classified staff during Classified Staff Appreciation Week in March. Thank you to Mrs. Rice for taking the RVHS and FMS band students to the Small Schools Band Festival. River View High School Food Science Trip to WSU Students took a field trip to Washington State University in Pullman on March 21 to learn about careers in food science and opportunities at WSU. We toured Ferdinand’s Creamery to see how they make their famous Cougar Gold cheese and ice cream. 29 students attended this adventure from the CTE department with Mrs. Yochum and Mrs. Ward. Around Finley Schools March 2024 Crystal Apple Award Winner, Oscar Carrasco Congratulations to Oscar Carrasco, who was honored as the 2024 Crystal Apple Award Winner for Finley School District at the awards ceremony on March 7th. Athletics Update RVHS Panthers Update RVHS Panther Winter Sports Conclusion Our boys basketball team earned the #4 seed in the east for the EWAC district tournament. The team traveled to Cle Elum and bested the #1 seed from the west 47-39. They then played Tri-Cities Prep in the quarter finals, losing 34-79. The loss meant we got to host White Swan in a loser out game on February 15. It was a great game. The team ended up losing, 58-66. They finished the year 9-14. Nate Clinton was selected as a 1st team player to the EWAC East Boys Basketball All League Team. Both Cayden Clifford and Maddox Tyutyunnik were selected as honorable mentions. Abcde Rogers and Mareli Birrueta were selected as honorable mentions to the EWAC East Girls Basketball All League Team. Elizabeth Mendoza earned the alternate seed to the WIAA state championships with her 4th place finish at regionals. RVHS Spring Sports Update Spring sports have begun at the high school. We have a varsity and JV baseball team, as well as a varsity and JV fastpitch softball team. Track has 65 high schoolers out, along with 15 middle schoolers. Baseball and softball began their season with a home double header on March 12 versus Cle Elum. Track opened up their season with a meet at Wahluke on March 15. FMS Falcons Update FMS Falcon Winter Sports Conclusion The Finley Middle School girls’ basketball teams wrapped up their seasons on February 28. Both the 8th grade and 7th grade teams began their season 0-3, but finished the year winning 3 of their last 5 games to finish the season 3-5. Spring sports begin at FMS on Monday, March 25. Finley Elementary School Music, fun, and learning at Finley Elementary! Finley Middle School Celebrating Finley's Finest Caught in Action for February! Thanks to all who attended Finley Middle School's February Paint Night! River View High School RVHS Student Art on Display in Regional High School Art Show Congratulations to Neydin Padilla , who received the Superintendent's Choice Award during the Annual Regional High School Art Show award ceremony on March 13! The High School Art Show, featuring art by students from River View High School and other high schools across the region, is on display at the Columbia Basin College Gjerde Center (H-building) through Friday, March 22. Neydin will also have art featured on the 2024 "I Voted" stickers in Benton County November ballot packets. She was awarded with a certificate by the County Commissioner Jerome Delvin on March 18. Read more here. FFA Updates FFA Week Finley FFA celebrated FFA Week, February 17-24, with a week packed with events, including dress up days, a movie night, and a gratitude breakfast. Congratulations to our new Greenhand and Discovery FFA members and all those who placed in the Lower Columbia Basin FFA Jamboree hosted in Finley. Read more here. 8th Place Ag Mechanic Congratulations to the Finley FFA team of Hunter DeLa Vega , Makaia Gorman , Landon Los , and Collin Enlow for taking 8th place in the Ag Mechanic competition in Wapato on Feb. 28th. Elementary Ag Day FFA members led an Ag Day at Finley Elementary School, teaching elementary students about agriculture concepts while making edible "soil" and ice cream in a bag. Around Finley Schools February 2024 Superintendent Message We are halfway through the school year and time moves quickly. Staff celebrated the academic achievements of students through the first semester during our end of January professional learning community time. It is remarkable to see the growth and progress of students. I am proud to lead in a district and community with multiple caring adults who take the time to not only educate academics, but also citizenship and character. Your child should have received their 1st semester report cards, and I hope every family takes the time to celebrate the achievements of your child. We will continue to strive to bring opportunities, experiences, and high-quality education through the rest of the year. Help us keep our vision moving of Working Together, Achieving Together ! Athletics Update RVHS Panthers Winter Sports Update The boys basketball regular season has come to an end. The boys qualified for the District 5 playoffs as a 4 seed with a 52-51 win against Goldendale on February 6th. They play at Cle Elum this Friday at 6:00 PM. They finished the regular season with an overall record of 7-12 and a league record of 2-6. We celebrated our seniors, Nate Clinton , Yoandy Ayllon , Cayden Turner, and David Olivera , at our game against Warden. The girls basketball regular season has also come to an end. They did not qualify for the District 5 playoffs and finished the season with an overall record of 1-18 and a league record of 0-8. We celebrated our seniors, Abcde Rogers and Mckenna Stempson , at our game against Warden. Boys and girls wrestling is in the post-season right now. Landon Los and Carter Pease qualified for regionals this weekend in Tonasket. Makenzie Chavez , Mackenzie Mills , Elizabeth Mendoza , Izabella Cervantes, and Yolexy Farias qualified for regionals this weekend in Toppenish. We celebrated our seniors, Yolexy Farias , Jade Sisson , Elizabeth Mendoza, and Ariel Telles at our last home league match. We celebrated our senior cheer team member, Erick Cabrera, at our home basketball game against Warden. We had our Junior Panther youth basketball night at our game against Goldendale. 52 Junior Panthers were recognized. RVHS Spring Sports begin February 26th . FMS Falcons Winter Sports Update The girls basketball team is now playing league games. We have an 8th grade and a 7th grade team. They both have a record of 0-3 with 5 more games to be played. Finley Middle School Congrats to Madison Thompson for meeting her student engagement goal! Celebrating Finley's Finest in January! River View High School Career Day River View High School hosted the annual Career Day event for all students freshman through senior grades. Career professionals from health care, education, engineering, military, emergency services, counseling, trucking, cosmetology, real estate, and many more shared what was needed to succeed in their field. Students have a greater chance of success if they have exposure to the many opportunities post high school life will bring. Read more here. Crystal Apple Awards Congratulations to Oscar Carrasco who was recognized at the January Finley School District Board meeting as this year's Crystal Apple Award winner! Come cheer for Mr. Carrasco at the Crystal Apple Awards ceremony on March 7th at 4:30 PM at Educational Service District 123 (3924 W Court St. in Pasco). FCCLA Week Last week, RVHS celebrated National Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Week with fun events each day for FCCLA members and everyone at the high school!
