District Newsletter March 9, 2026   In This Issue Olive Grove Robotics Team Joshua's Journey: A TK Story Part 2 Heritage Oak Celebrates 35 Years Family Safety Night Raising an Emotionally Resilient Child Parent Workshops Wednesday Wave Recap We Are Hiring! Dates to Remember March 10 - Parent Safety Night March 11 - Parent Workshop #1 March 17 & 18 - Open House March 23 - April 3 - Spring Break April 15 - Parent Workshop #2 April 16 - Board of Trustees Meeting April 29 - Parent Workshop #3 May 13 - Parent Workshop #4 Olive Grove Robotics Team Showcases Innovation and Teamwork The Olive Grove Elementary Robotics Team recently completed an impressive first year! This group of 14 talented fourth and fifth-graders made a strong start in robotics, building a foundation to grow the program even bigger next year. Under the guidance of advisor Sarah Counter and with support from dedicated parent volunteers, these students discovered that it’s never too early to explore technology, collaboration, and problem-solving. Through hands-on projects, they brought their passion for robotics to life while learning important skills in teamwork, creativity, and innovation. Recently, they made a special appearance at the February 12 Board of Trustees meeting, where the team had the opportunity to showcase their skills and demonstrate their hard work to the district’s leadership. Watching these young innovators collaborate, brainstorm solutions, and turn ideas into reality was inspiring. The Olive Grove Robotics Team is just one example of the enriching, hands-on experiences students enjoy in Dry Creek, preparing them to thrive both in school and beyond.   Joshua's Journey Continues! Since the very start of his Transitional Kindergarten (TK) year, Joshua has grown in confidence, skills, and independence. In just a few short months, he has made tremendous progress, showing how TK builds a strong foundation for future learning. What may look like play in a TK classroom is actually meaningful learning. Through hands-on, play-based experiences, students develop important academic, social, and emotional skills. Joshua’s journey is a wonderful example of how students thrive when given an early start in a supportive environment. Dry Creek’s TK teachers are fully credentialed and use curriculum aligned to California State Standards. The program focuses on kindergarten readiness, with an emphasis on language, early literacy, and foundational math skills, while also supporting social, emotional, and motor development. Do you have a student ready for TK? Dry Creek offers TK at seven school sites across Roseville and Antelope, including Antelope Meadows, Barrett Ranch, Coyote Ridge, Creekview Ranch, Heritage Oak, Olive Grove, and Quail Glen. We offer an extended day schedule, a 10:1 adult-to-student ratio, and a maximum of 20 students per class. Students must turn four years old by September 1, 2026, to be eligible for the 2026-2027 school year. Register today, and come learn with us!   Heritage Oak Elementary Celebrates 35 Years of Tradition and Community This year, Heritage Oak Elementary School proudly celebrates 35 years of serving students and families in the community. Heritage Oak first opened its doors in the fall of 1990 to support a rapidly growing area and help expand beyond Dry Creek Elementary School, the district’s original school. Over the years, the campus has grown and evolved, but the strong sense of community and family atmosphere that defines Heritage Oak has remained the same. One person who has seen that growth firsthand is teacher Suzanne Weidkamp, who has been part of the Heritage Oak community for the past 30 years. Through her many years on campus, she has watched generations of students learn, grow, and create lasting memories at the school. As Heritage Oak celebrates this milestone anniversary, the school community reflects on 35 years of tradition, growth, and connection. It’s a special moment to honor the students, staff, and families who have helped make Heritage Oak such a meaningful place. Happy 35th birthday, Huskies!    Parent Safety Night Campus Safety Update & Parent Information Session March 10, 2026 Time: 5:30 - 6:30 PM Location: Virtual Zoom Meeting Register in advance for this meeting: Registration Link   After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with information on how to join the meeting. Through creativity, advocacy, and heart, she works to ensure every student has the opportunity to play, perform, and shine. Dry Creek is proud of its students who continue to prove that anything is possible while advocating for greater accessibility in the band room.   Family Literacy Night Brings Community Together at Antelope Meadows Antelope Meadows Elementary School hosted an incredible evening, as dozens of families sported their favorite NFL team gear for the school’s first-ever Night of Family Literacy. The event began with a fun, family-friendly tailgate featuring games and snacks, setting the stage for a night focused on learning and connection. As the sun set, families gathered in the multipurpose room for engaging literacy activities and interactive learning games. Parents and caregivers also received helpful tips and strategies to support reading at home. Our counselors believe in the power of collaboration, working closely with teachers, administrators, and families to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. You can also find them in classrooms teaching lessons on kindness and bullying prevention. These lessons help students grow socially and emotionally and equip them with valuable tools to build positive relationships, treat others with respect, and make safe choices. After earning first chair in the Capitol Section band as a 7th grader, Adriel decided to push himself even further. “I decided if I can do this as a 7th grader, let’s see what I can do as an 8th grader,” he said. That decision led him to make history at Antelope Crossing Middle School, earning a spot in the California All-State Band and First Chair Tuba, the first student to do so in the school’s more than 30-year history. Chosen from hundreds of students across the state, first chair means Adriel didn’t just make the band, he set the standard. “I feel really great to be the first person in ACMS history… not only all-state, but first chair,” he shared. His band director, Mr. Afu, saw Adriel’s determination early on. “The fact that one of ours gets to represent Antelope Crossing is a huge deal,” he said. Adriel credits his success to hours of focused practice, even when it wasn’t easy. “If I practice things that you don’t really like, it will really help improve my overall playing,” Adriel explained. And he’s not done yet. Looking ahead, Adriel has his sights set on the next challenge. “I want to make all-state as a freshman… I know I can do it if I really work hard enough.”   FBI Internet Safety Parent Night Recap Thank you to our Dry Creek School Community for coming together for our FBI Internet Safety Parent Night. District Newsletter December 22, 2025   IN THIS ISSUE: Dry Creek on Winter Break December 22 - January 2 A Holiday Message from Superintendent Cliff De Graw Silverado Middle School Band Takes Center Court at Sacramento Kings Game Placer County District Attorney's New #AppSafe Initiative FBI Parent Night on Keeping Students Safe Online New Student Registration for the 2026 - 2027 School Year The Wednesday Wave Recap We Are Hiring!   Dry Creek is Officially on Winter Break We are now officially on Winter Break! All Dry Creek schools and district offices will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2026. We hope this time away brings rest, joy, and meaningful moments with family and friends. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year. We look forward to seeing everyone in January!   Superintendent Cliff De Graw Wishes you Happy Holidays As we head into the holiday season, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to our staff for your hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout the year. I hope this time provides you with well-deserved rest and meaningful moments spent with loved ones. To our families and students, thank you for your partnership, support, and trust. We wish you a joyful, safe, and restful holiday season filled with time together. Thank you all for being an important part of our school community.   Silverado Middle School Band Takes Center Court at Sacramento Kings Game For more than a decade, Silverado Middle School Band Director Meredith Mellin has partnered with the Sacramento Kings to give her students the extraordinary opportunity of performing at a professional basketball game. Each year, her band performs the national anthem at a Kings game, an experience students describe as unforgettable, empowering, and will carry with them for years to come. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Most kids don’t get to say they stood on a court and played the national anthem at an NBA game," Mrs. Mellin said. Beyond the arena lights, Mrs. Mellin is just as dedicated to what happens back in her classroom. She has redesigned her learning space to ensure every student feels seen, valued, and is able to shine. The video above captures this year’s special moment on the court, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at how Mrs. Mellin is fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for all Silverado musicians. Watch to see the Silverado Band in action and hear directly from the students who make this tradition so remarkable.   Keep Your Kids Safe This Break With the Placer County District Attorney’s New #AppSafe Initiative With winter break here, many kids will be spending more time on their phones, tablets, and gaming consoles. For predators, this increased screen time is an opportunity. For us, it’s a chance to empower families.  The Placer County District Attorney’s Office has launched the AppSafe Initiative — a countywide effort to help parents understand app dangers, set stronger privacy protections, and start meaningful conversations with their kids about online safety.  We’re asking every parent to take three simple steps:  1. Watch the AppSafe launch video  2. Visit the DA’s AppSafe website to learn about app risks, privacy settings, and real cases from around the country: www.placer.ca.gov/AppSafe  3. Have a conversation with your child about who they talk to online, which apps they use, and how to stay safe. Break is the perfect time to reset boundaries and reinforce expectations.  Predators no longer wait at parks or in public spaces — they reach children through games, apps, and social media, often pretending to be kids themselves. AppSafe gives you the tools to see the risks clearly and protect your family.  Thank you for taking a few minutes to get AppSafe-informed. Working together, we can keep our kids safer during break and beyond.    Keeping Students Safe Online Internet Safety Parent Night - Presented by the FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION (FBI) All Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District families (adults only) are invited to attend an important parent information night presented by the FBI on Keeping Students Safe Online.
