To make reports more convenient to access, the District will no longer print and send home paper copies. Students in grades 1-8 take the MAP assessment three times each year (fall, winter, and spring), while kindergarten students participate in the assessment in the spring. Following each testing window, families can log in to Skyward to view their child's most recent results and monitor academic growth over time. 📎Step-by-step instructions in English and Spanish are attached to help you access MAP reports in Skyward. ❓Questions about your child's MAP scores or progress? Please contact your child's teacher or principal. 💉 Need Vaccinations for Your Student? The October 15 school immunization deadline is next week.     🔔Weekly Announcements September 30, 2026 🔔Announcements 💻 Protecting Student Privacy: Understanding Paid Features in Educational Apps At District 20, we work hard to ensure students have access to the digital tools they need for learning. Every student receives a district-level approved account with access to all required programs, assignments, and instructional materials. You may occasionally notice options within these programs to purchase upgraded features, such as "Pro," Plus," or "Premium" versions. We kindly ask families not to purchase these upgrades or add-ons using their child's school account or district email address. Why is this important? Under Illinois' Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA), District 20 is required to review and approve all digital tools used by students. These agreements help protect student privacy, limit data collection, and ensure appropriate security measures are in place. When a paid upgrade is added to a school account, the account's terms, features, or privacy settings may change in ways that have not been reviewed or approved by the district. What families should know: Students already have what they need. District-provided accounts include access to all required assignments, instructional materials, and learning tools. Please keep payment information off school accounts. Do not attach personal credit cards or purchase subscriptions using your child's district email address. Independent purchases cannot be managed by the district. Because subscriptions are purchased directly from outside companies, the district cannot provide refunds or support if a service later becomes unavailable, blocked, or discontinued. Thank you for helping us protect student privacy and maintain a safe digital learning environment. As we remember the lives lost and honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice displayed that day, District 20 will lower the flag at the District Office to half-staff in remembrance. Across our schools, students and staff will also take time to commemorate the occasion with a special announcement, a moment of silence, and a tribute to the first responders who answered the call and continue to serve our communities today. Together, we pause to reflect on the values of unity, resilience, service, and remembrance that remain as important today as they were 25 years ago.     🔔Weekly Announcements September 2, 2026 🔔Announcements 📊Understanding Benchmark Assessments: What Families Need to Know All K-8 students participate in benchmark assessments three times each school year. These assessments provide valuable information about how students are performing in English language arts and mathematics compared with grade-level peers nationwide. Kindergarten and first-grade students are assessed in early literacy and foundational math skills, such as letter recognition, letter sounds, and number identification. Students in grades 2-8 are assessed on reading comprehension and grade-level math skills. The data collected from these assessments helps teachers identify student strengths and areas for growth, adjust instruction to meet individual learning needs, and monitor progress toward grade-level expectations. Benchmark assessment results also help ensure students are prepared for state assessments. 📝Student results will be shared with families during parent-teacher conferences (October 29-30) and included with first-trimester report cards (November 13). To help keep you informed while reducing multiple notifications throughout the week, District 20 will now share district-wide updates and reminders in this weekly message every Wednesday afternoon. Our goal is to make communication more predictable, organized, and family-friendly so you always know when and where to find the latest information from District 20. While emergency notifications and time-sensitive communications may still be sent as needed, this newsletter will serve as our primary source for district-level updates and reminders. In other words, fewer one-off ParentSquare notifications and more important information in one convenient place. We encourage you to take a few moments each week to review the information below and stay informed about important District 20 news, updates, and reminders. 🔔Announcements 🌭Back-to-School Fest POSTPONED to August 28 Due to the potential for severe weather and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, families, staff, vendors, and community members, District 20 has decided to postpone our Back-to-School Fest to Friday, August 28, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Spring Wood Middle School. We hope you'll join us for a fun-filled evening as we kick off the 2026-2027 school year. hot dogs, chips, ice cream face painting bounce houses DJ and more! 🚌Transportation Info Available in Skyward We are excited to welcome students back for another great school year and are proud to provide transportation services for our families. Bus route information is available in your student's Skyward account. If you have any questions about transportation, please contact your school's main office. As routes and schedules are finalized during the first few weeks of school, we appreciate your patience and ask families to allow a window of plus or minus five minutes for bus arrival and drop-off times.   • 📣Important Deadline: Register by Aug. 14 to Start Sc...

    As we prepare for the start of the 2026-27 school year, we want to remind you that  students must be fully registered by 4:00 PM on Friday, August 14  to attend the  first day of school on Wednesday, August 19 . If registration is completed after this deadline, district protocol requires 2 business days to process enrollment before a student may begin attending school . This processing time helps ensure schools are prepared to welcome your child. In some cases, school administrators may be able to expedite the process and will communicate directly with families if that option is available.  📌 Important for families with multiple children : If you are registering more than one student, please communicate with each school to help ensure siblings can start on the same day. If your registration is delayed due to special circumstances, including IEP-related matters, please contact your school's administration as soon as possible to determine an appropriate start date and coordinate plans with sibling schools, if applicable.  For families who have not yet completed registration, we encourage you to attend our  Registration Night  on Thursday, August 6, between 4:00 and 7:00 PM in the Spring Wood Middle School Commons. Staff will be available to assist with registration, answer questions, and help ensure your student is ready to start school on August 19. Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
