  • Important Information in the Event of Inclement Weather

Dear Dallas School District Families and Staff:             We've had a nice run of good weather, but colder temps are in the forecast. In the event that inclement weather disrupts school operations, we will notify local radio and television stations by 5:30 AM. The same information will be placed on the school district website, FlashAlert Newswire, and on the Facebook pages of each school and the district. Any decision to close or delay the opening of schools will also be communicated through  ParentSquare .  Four kinds of inclement weather notifications: Schools closed. Two-hour delay. All buses will run regular routes two hours late. Snow routes only; NO delay. See snow routes on the school district website or by clicking this  link.  Only the routes listed are affected when buses are on snow routes. If a route number is not listed, it will operate as close as possible to the scheduled pick up and drop off times. If the snow routes occur in the A.M., buses will remain on snow routes for the P.M. Two-hour delay AND buses on snow routes. Buses will run two hours later than the times listed on the snow routes. School District website:  https://www.dallas.k12.or.us/student-families/alertsweather-closures FlashAlert Newswire at this link:  https://www.flashalert.net/id/DallasSD   Important Information  – Parents are reminded that they make the final decision about whether it is safe for their child to attend school on bad weather days. When a child cannot attend school due to bad weather, the school office should be notified and the absence will be excused. Please advise your child not to wait more than 20 minutes beyond the designated pick-up time for their bus. They should return to their homes at that time. Closure during a School Day  – It may occasionally be necessary to send students home from school early due to the threat of severe weather or other emergencies. Parents should select a "second home" (preferably a neighbor) where their student may stay in the event they are away from home. In any emergency, the Superintendent, or designee, will decide whether students should be sent home. They may be sent home immediately, or kept in the schools indefinitely under continuous supervision until the emergency has passed. These decisions will be communicated with the same processes used for school delay or closure, and described in this letter. Please contact your school office staff if you have any questions.

  • Shaping the Future of Our Elementary Schools: We Wan...

Greetings Dallas Families, As a district, we are constantly striving to provide the best learning environments for our students while meeting the needs of our families, staff, and community. Over the past 15+ years, you know that we’ve operated with two K-3 schools (Lyle and Oakdale) and one 4-5 school (Whitworth). As we plan for the future, and because of shifts to our district enrollment we are conducting a needs assessment regarding our Elementary school model. At this stage, we are just gathering information and feedback from our staff and the Dallas community. We want to hear from you.  This input will help guide our discussions and ensure that any future decisions are well-informed and reflective of community needs. The aim of this work will be to provide us with valuable feedback that may impact the  2026-27 school year .  At this time we expect 2025-26 to return to the K-3, 4-5 model. What’s Next? The community will be invited to participate via social media posts, news media, and invitations through the Dallas Chamber to name a few. In addition, we’ll host opportunities for open conversations, where the community can share feedback in person and ask questions. The schedule and location for these meetings are as follows: Lyle Elementary:  February 3rd, 6:00-7:00 Oakdale Elementary: February 18th, 6:00-7:00 Whitworth Elementary:  March 5th, 6:00-7:00 We are committed to an open and transparent process, and  no decisions have been made at this time . Thank you in advance for your participation as we engage in this important conversation. The following link will take you to a short survey where you can provide feedback:   Elementary School Needs Assessment Survey   I am asking that all of you consider providing your feedback, even if you don't currently have students in elementary school. The survey will remain open until March 28th, the end of spring break.  Please feel free to pass it along to anyone in our district community. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to any administrator. Sincerely, Steve Spencer Superintendent Dallas School District
