MFISD Announces Assistant Principal Transitions to S...
MFISD Announces Assistant Principal Transitions to Support Continued Leadership Growth Lauren Berkman, 2025-2026 Colt Elementary School Assistant Principal Lauren Berkman is a proud third-generation native of Marble Falls with a deep-rooted passion for serving the Marble Falls and Highland Lakes community. Her journey in education began in 2009 as a paraprofessional at Marble Falls Elementary while completing her bachelor’s degree at Texas Tech University. In 2012, she returned to Marble Falls ISD as a classroom teacher and cheer coach at Marble Falls High School, a role she held until 2019. She then transitioned back to Marble Falls Elementary, where she served as an instructional coach for three years before stepping into campus leadership as assistant principal in 2022. Now entering her 17th year in education, Mrs. Berkman brings with her 11 years of classroom experience, three years as an instructional coach, and three years as an assistant principal. Mrs. Berkman’s career is guided by the belief that every child matters and deserves someone in their corner—cheering them on, offering guidance, and showing grace. Her greatest source of joy is her family. She is married to John Berkman, a teacher and coach at Marble Falls High School, and together they are raising four children: Mya (MFHS Class of 2018), Alyssa (MFHS Class of 2023), Beckett (a rising junior at MFHS), and Collins (a rising 8th grader at MFMS). Outside of school, she is often found in the stands supporting her children, husband, or former students at local sporting events. She also enjoys working out, teaching a functional strength training class, crafting, and reading. Lauren is excited to begin this new chapter and is honored to serve another incredible community of families within Marble Falls ISD. Kathy Payson, 2025-2026 Highland Lakes Elementary Assistant Principal Kathy Payson is passionate about cultivating community wherever she goes. She earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Teaching from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Her early teaching experience includes serving as a teacher’s assistant in Sweden and teaching math and science in Puerto Rico. After earning her master's degree in 2006, she co-founded the third-grade curriculum at an urban charter school in Rhode Island that focused on empowering students, teachers, and families to create positive change in their communities. In 2013, Mrs. Payson and her family moved to Marble Falls, where she has since served in a variety of roles within MFISD—including classroom teacher at Marble Falls Elementary, instructional coach at Marble Falls Elementary, Spicewood Elementary, and Colt Elementary, and most recently, assistant principal at Colt. She brings over 20 years of experience in education, including 10 years as a classroom teacher, six years as an instructional coach, and four years in campus leadership. Mrs. Payson and her husband, Alex—owner of Numinous Coffee Roasters and President of the MFISD Board of Trustees—live in Marble Falls with their twins, Magnolia and Zellam, who attend Marble Falls Middle School. Their family enjoys spending time outdoors, running long distances together, and connecting with their extended family. Kathy looks forward to her time at Highland Lakes Elementary and said, “I believe that every child has great potential, and working together to create a sense of belonging helps everyone thrive. I am blessed to have served the communities at three of our elementary schools, and I look forward to engaging all students, teachers, and families as we unite at Highland Lakes Elementary - one team, one mission! - and among all of our amazing campuses.” “We are incredibly fortunate to have leaders like Mrs. Payson and Mrs. Berkman—educators whose roots run deep in our district and who are deeply committed to the communities they serve. Their long-standing dedication to Marble Falls ISD is a powerful testament to the kind of continuity and care we value. Track & Field The Board recognized an impressive slate of state qualifiers. Senior Tyler Hamblin became a two-time state finalist in the 3200m, closing a decorated career that includes four cross country state appearances. Senior Kylie Roberts secured her first trip to the state meet in discus, demonstrating resilience and determination with a 114-foot throw in prelims that earned her second place at regionals. Sophomore Madison Cuplin earned a bronze medal in the long jump and placed fifth in triple jump. All three athletes embody the determination, sportsmanship, and leadership that define Marble Falls athletics. Tennis The MFHS Tennis program celebrated a record-setting season with three athletes advancing to the state tournament. Senior Weston York, who transferred from Flour Bluff as a junior, made an immediate impact. This year, he earned first team all-district and academic all-district honors in doubles. Bond Election Passes -- A Message of Thanks from Dr....
Bond Election Passes A Message of Thanks from Dr. Gasaway Dear Marble Falls ISD Community, I wanted to take a moment to thank the Marble Falls ISD community for your support in the recent bond election. Saturday night was an exciting moment for Marble Falls ISD as all four bond propositions passed. As we begin work on these projects, I am energized by what this means for our students, our staff, and the entire Mustang Nation. At the beginning of the school year, a group of 60 individuals came together to form the Community Advisory Committee. Over five months, they spent countless hours reviewing the district's needs, exploring potential projects, and pouring over data. Thank you to each member of this committee. It was your dedication, thoughtful input, and shared vision for the future of Marble Falls ISD that shaped the final bond recommendation. Your work exemplifies our MFISD vision of loving and inspiring every student. To our parents, staff, and community members—thank you. I appreciate the faith and trust you’ve placed in us by supporting this bond. Your investment will make a meaningful difference and will impact every student who walks through our doors for generations to come. When I became superintendent of Marble Falls ISD, I shared a vision of making this a “District of Destination.” I believe the projects ahead will move us closer to making that vision a reality. While the vote is behind us, the real work begins now. The district is committed to managing these projects with excellence and transparency, continuing to build trust by being responsible stewards of your investment. Thank you again for supporting our students, our staff, and the Marble Falls ISD community. Thank you for investing in the future of MFISD. I truly believe that great days are ahead for Marble Falls ISD. With gratitude, Dr. Jeff Gasaway Superintendent of Schools Marble Falls ISD

I am writing today to inform you about an important election taking place this spring. On Saturday, May 3, 2025, voters will consider a $172.2 million bond proposal for Marble Falls ISD. This proposal is divided into four propositions, each aimed at addressing the district’s long-range facilities plan, including facility upgrades, program enhancements, and safety improvements. Due to a commitment to fiscal responsibility, and an increasing tax base from new homes, this bond will not result in a tax rate increase. A new state law requires the ballot language to read that the bond will result in a tax increase, but the tax rate will not go up as a result of this bond. Outlined below are the early voting details and locations. I encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities to cast your vote and make your voice heard in this important decision.
