Phantom News - January 10
REMINDER REGARDING EMERGENCY ALERTS We want to thank our entire community for their patience and partnership during this morning’s events. We recognize that alerts like this are concerning and worrisome, especially with limited information. There are times, like this morning, in which details cannot be released to the public, as we are part of an active investigation; we understand that these limitations may be frustrating to families. During an emergency of any kind, our priority is to ensure the safety of the students and staff on campus and that those efforts are happening in the moment whether or not they are clearly described to the public. Please also recognize that the only official record of what is happening in an emergency comes from the district and local law enforcement. While many theories are generated in social media, please use caution when assuming things that are posted from unofficial sources. We want to reiterate that we are empathetic to concerns about not fully knowing the details of these events, but we appreciate your partnership in trusting the district and local law enforcement to keep you as informed as possible while continuing to ensure the efficacy of the investigation. Lastly, if you are not receiving these alerts, please contact communications@pasd.com to ensure that your information is up to date. Our sincerest thanks and appreciation for your patience, trust, and support. EMERGENCY CONTACTS Please note that when urgent alerts are distributed, emergency contacts will be notified. Phantom News - November 15
FOUR PASD SCHOOLS RECOGNIZED BY U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT Barkley, Manavon, and Schuylkill Elementary Schools have all been ranked in the top 40% of public elementary schools in Pennsylvania and Phoenixville Area Middle School was ranked in the top 40% of all public middle schools in the state by U.S. News & World Report. The rankings include more than 79,000 public elementary and middle schools across the country. Schools are ranked at the state and district level, with Best Charter Schools ranked as a stand-alone category. The methodology focuses on state assessments of students who were proficient or above proficient in mathematics and reading/language arts while accounting for student backgrounds, achievement in core subjects, and how well schools are educating their students. Student-teacher ratios are applied to break ties in the overall score. The 2025 Best Elementary and Best Middle Schools rankings are based on publicly available data from the U.S. Department of Education. Congratulations to Barkley, Manavon, Schuylkill, and PAMS! FAMILY ENGAGEMENT SURVEY We want to hear from you! PASD has recently put together a Community Engagement Steering Committee that will focus on fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all of our families. The first step in that process is to survey our families regarding our existing practices for family and community engagement. The survey should take about 15 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. Most questions are multiple choice, however there are opportunities to provide more detailed responses. Families should complete one survey per family and may choose to complete the survey at any of the buildings. Please complete the survey by Friday, October 25. Go to the surve y PARENT SQUARE TIP CORNER Introducing the Parent Square Tip Corner. Periodically, we'll feature some helpful tips on how to get the most out of ParentSquare. ParentSquare Tip #1 - Direct Messages When sending a direct message to more than one teacher or parent, you have two options: Private and Group. The Group option works just like a group text where everyone in the group can see all of the messages sent. The Private option is like a blind copy. You can send the same message to multiple people at once, but they can only see and respond to your message and do not see the others in the group. ParentSquare Tip #2 - StudentSquare Students at the middle and high school level can also receive notifications. Many of our clubs and athletic teams are using ParentSquare already and it will be the sole form of communication for all school activities and events by January 2025. Students are set to receive email messages to their student email by default, however, they can login using their student email and password (use Sign in with Microsoft) and add a cell phone if they would like to recieve text notifications. This feature is not available for students in K-5. SAFE TRICK OR TREAT PHANTOM PHAMILY TRANSITION FAIR The 3 rd annual Phantom Phamily Transition Fair will take place on November 7 th from 6 to 8pm in the high school cafeteria. This fair gives families the opportunity to check out varying supports for adults with disabilities ranging from financial planning, supported leisure activities and work supports.
