New Partnership with Greencastle Police Department
Dear Greencastle Families, We are excited to announce that Greencastle Community School Corporation has partnered with the Greencastle Police Department (GPD) to further enhance the safety and security of our schools. During the March Board meeting, the Board approved an MOU with the city, allowing GCSC to contract with GPD to provide School Resource Officers (SROs). We officially began this partnership on April 1st. As part of this collaboration, GPD officers, including K-9 Gunner, will regularly be present in our buildings. K-9 Gunner is a highly trained member of the GPD team and will work alongside officers to help ensure our schools remain safe and secure. This initiative is designed to foster a positive, proactive approach to school safety. We believe this partnership will be beneficial in creating a safe and supportive environment for our students, staff, and visitors. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our schools safe! Sincerely, Jeff Gibboney Superintendent

Important: Winter Weather Procedures & Notifications
November 18, 2024 Dear Greencastle Community School Corporation Families, As winter approaches, we want to ensure all families are informed about our district's inclement weather procedures. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we are committed to clear communication and timely notifications regarding any weather-related schedule changes. Weather-Related Delays and Cancellations: In the event of severe weather—such as heavy snowfall, freezing rain, or extreme cold—our district has specific protocols to decide if a delay, cancellation, early dismissal, or eLearning day is necessary. Every decision considers the safety of our students, staff, and transportation needs. How You’ll Be Notified: We use ParentSquare to provide up-to-the-minute notifications, including alerts for delays, closings, eLearning days, and emergency situations. ParentSquare automatically sends notifications through text, voice, and email using the contact information provided during student registration. Please keep your contact information updated in Skyward , as the ParentSquare database syncs with Skyward each evening. If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to your child’s school office. In addition to ParentSquare, you can find updates via: GCSC Website: Visit https://www.greencastle.k12.in.us for delay and closure information. Television Stations: WTWO (Channel 2), WRTV (Channel 6), WISH (Channel 8), and WTHR (Channel 13). Radio Station: WREB (94.3 FM). Newspaper: Banner Graphic - Greencastle. Twitter: Follow @Jeff_Gibboney for additional updates. Making Plans in Advance: We recommend families make advance arrangements for childcare and transportation in case of delays or cancellations. Whenever possible, we aim to decide on closures or delays by 6:30 AM, and if severe conditions are known the night before, we may make the announcement then. Possible Inclement Weather Plans: In response to inclement weather, one of the following plans may implemented: CLOSE school entirely. DELAY the start of school by two hours: Buses will run two hours late. Preschool will operate on a delayed schedule: AM session (10:00 - 11:30 AM) and PM session (1:00 - 2:30 PM). DELAY with Possible Closure : When initial delays may lead to full-day closure if weather worsens. EARLY RELEASE : If conditions deteriorate during the day, leading to potentially unsafe travel, an early dismissal may be implemented. eLearning Day : If conditions prevent in-person attendance but allow for remote learning, an eLearning day may be scheduled. Instructions for eLearning will be provided through ParentSquare by building administrators. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we make these decisions to ensure safety. If you have any questions about our weather procedures, please contact your child’s school or the district office. Thank you for your continued support and for trusting us with your child’s education. Stay safe and prepare for this winter season! Sincerely, Jeff Gibboney Superintendent
