Good News Gram November Recap Honoring Veterans and Military Families November was Veterans and Military Families Month, and our district came together to celebrate and honor the brave individuals who serve and have served our country and the families who support them. Schools across the district hosted heartfelt Veteran's Day celebrations, including assemblies, student performances, and special recognitions for the veterans in our community. We are grateful for the sacrifices made by our service members and their families and proud to have the opportunity to honor them in meaningful ways. Enjoy these moments captured from schools throughout the district that highlight our gratitude and respect for our veterans Days of Caring with Trident United Way Trident United Way has partnered with our school district for their Days of Caring for many years, making a meaningful difference in our schools. Through this incredible collaboration, countless projects have been completed, enhancing learning environments and bringing our community closer together. We are so grateful for their ongoing support and the volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to our students and schools! Honoring Our Newly Elected Board of Trustees We hosted a special reception to celebrate the newly elected DDTwo Board of Trustees. Six of the seven board members proudly took the oath of office, pledging to serve on behalf of the students and families of our district. We are excited to welcome their leadership and commitment as we work together to support education and opportunities for all. Congratulations to our board members as they embark on this important journey! Celebrating a Remarkable Milestone of Generosity! We are thrilled to highlight the extraordinary support of the Summerville Italian Feast team, whose lifetime giving to our Foundation has now surpassed an incredible $100,000 in support of Dorchester District Two students and schools! At last month's school board meeting, the Feast team presented Executive Director, Ralph Hayes with a generous check for $40,000 raised during this year’s event—another shining example of their unwavering commitment to education in our community. In recognition of their profound impact, our Foundation proudly presented them with a trophy to honor their lifetime contribution. To the remarkable individuals behind the Italian Feast and all those who attend this beloved event: Thank you for helping us build brighter futures for our students. Your generosity changes lives, and we are deeply grateful! Together, we continue to make a lasting difference. Magical Movie Night Under the Stars Mark your calendars for Saturday, December 14th, and bring the whole family to Moonlit Movies @ McKissick! This FREE community event is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season with: 🎨 Games & Crafts for kids 🏆 A prize for the best holiday costume 🎬 A classic holiday movie showing 🍴 Food trucks with tasty treats for purchase 🎄 Wear your holiday gear and get cozy in the stands—blankets are welcome, and no chairs are needed! Gates open at 4:00 PM at 815 S. Main Street, Summerville. This event is presented by the Dorchester Two Educational Foundation and presented by Roni & Co. We can’t wait to see you there! Scarecrows on the Square: Creativity for a Cause Each year, the Junior Service League hosts the festive Scarecrows on the Square event, and this year’s participants didn’t disappoint! Several of our schools brought their creativity to life with incredible scarecrow booths, adding charm and fun to the community. What makes this event even more special? A portion of the proceeds from votes for the scarecrow booths comes back to support our district’s schools! 🌟 We’re so proud of our schools for showcasing their talent and grateful to the Junior Service League for hosting this fantastic event. Celebrating Educator Growth at Techsgiving This November, educators from across the district came together for Techsgiving, a professional development event designed to inspire innovation and enhance teaching strategies through technology. The day was filled with hands-on workshops, engaging discussions, and opportunities to explore new tools and ideas for the classroom. We commend these dedicated educators for their commitment to personal and professional growth, embracing new ways to enrich the learning experience for their students. Your passion for continuous improvement truly makes a difference! Varsity Cheer Making History Together For the first time in Dorchester School District Two history, all three of our high school varsity cheerleading teams qualified and competed at State! This incredible achievement highlights the dedication, talent, and teamwork of these phenomenal athletes and their coaches. We are so proud of our cheerleaders from Ashley Ridge, Fort Dorchester, and Summerville High Schools for reaching this milestone. Your hard work and commitment inspire us all, and we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way! Celebrating Our Talented DD2 Artists We are so proud of the incredible DD2 art students who showcased their creativity and hard work at the Coastal Carolina Fair! Their amazing pieces highlighted the talent and dedication of young artists from across our district. Bravo to all who participated! Rollings Middle School of the Arts Auditions LAST CHANCE TO APPLY! Current fifth-grade students residing within the Dorchester School District Two boundaries can register to audition for the opportunity to attend the Rollings Middle School of the Arts for the 2025-2026 school year. Good News Gram October Recap Principals Lead the Way In celebration of National Principals Month, we recognize the incredible leadership, dedication, and heart our principals bring to every school across our district. Standing alongside our superintendent, these leaders guide, inspire, and uplift our students, teachers, and staff daily. We’re deeply grateful for the impact they make, championing excellence in education and fostering a supportive environment where all can thrive. The Wall that Heals Groups of DD2 students from Ashley Ridge High, Dubose Middle, Fort Dorchester High, River Oaks Middle, & Summerville High experienced The Wall That Heals—a mobile replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. The traveling exhibit honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War, and it bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. American Heart Association At this month's Board of Trustees Meeting, we celebrated the phenomenal accomplishments of the DD2 schools for raising over $82,000 in funds for the American Heart Association placing 4th in the state! Jacob Bodner from Flowertown Elementary School was the top fundraiser for the district. DD2 in the Community Students from various clubs, fine arts, and electives came together to volunteer, host booths, and perform at the Summerville Italian Feast, bringing energy and talent to this community event. Proceeds from the Feast support our students and educators, with funds going directly back into the schools through the Educational Foundation. Physical Therapy Month October marked Physical Therapist Month, a time to celebrate the dedicated therapists who support our students' well-being and mobility. Their expertise is vital in helping students reach their fullest potential, making a significant impact on both learning and quality of life in our schools. Celebrating Academics Ashley Ridge High School recently celebrated outstanding academic achievements, showcasing students' and staff's hard work and dedication. Each year, the district proudly honors these accomplishments with the support of local business partners, whose contributions make these celebrations possible and highlight the importance of community collaboration in student success. DD2 Athletics RMSA Middle School Volleyball Champs Congratulations to the RMSA Lady Knights who won the Dorchester County Middle School Volleyball Championship for the second year! State Fair Throughout October, we proudly showcased sports jerseys from Ashley Ridge, Fort Dorchester, and Summerville High Schools at the South Carolina State Fair in Columbia. As part of a walk-through display highlighting each county in the state, our schools represented Dorchester County with jerseys from a variety of sports, celebrating our students’ athletic achievements. Fine Arts Region Orchestra Chooses 19 DD2 Students Congratulations to the 19 talented orchestra students from across our district who have qualified for the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA) Region 4 Orchestra! Their dedication to music and countless hours of practice have earned them a place among the finest young musicians in our region. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishment and look forward to the beautiful music they'll continue to share with our community. Hometown Hero Michael Greer has been the Steel Band Director at DuBose Middle School for 20 years, transforming his class into a daily highlight for students through his passion for music and the steel drum. Leading one of the country's largest middle school steel bands, Michael also established eight new steel band programs in Dorchester District 2, aiming to share this unique instrument with even more students. He consistently inspires his students to explore their creativity while having fun. Congratulations to Mr. Greer for winning the Hometown Hero award from Tanger Charleston! Rollings Middle School of the Arts Auditions 350 registrations have come in so far, but time is still left to apply! Current fifth-grade students residing within the Dorchester School District Two boundaries can register to audition for the opportunity to attend the Rollings Middle School of the Arts for the 2025-2026 school year. Registrations will be accepted through Sunday, December 1, 2024. No late registrations will be accepted. Rollings is a school for the fine and performing arts for artistically inclined students in grades six, seven, and eight. Guided by the expertise of Rollings’ educators, students develop their talents in the core arts areas of band, dance, piano, string orchestra, theatre arts, visual art, and vocal music.
