ECS Highlights (11/07)
A Successful Fall Band Concert Earlier this week, ECS held its big annual fall band concert at the North Side gymnasium. Hundreds of student musicians made up a variety of ensembles, including the Pride Of Elkhart EHS marching band, the EHS jazz band, and large middle school ensembles made up of musicians from all 3 ECS middle schools. It's always great to watch our district's talented musicians in action! Creative Animal Research Project It was a fun Friday afternoon at Roosevelt STEAM Academy! 3rd graders in Mrs. Said's class recently finished a research/english unit on animals. To cap it off, students created their own animal "zoos," which were informative displays about different categories of animals (mammals, lizards, etc). Other Roosevelt students and families had a chance to watch them present their findings. Promoting Accessibility In PE Class Indiana Soccer gave ECS PE teachers a presentation on "Futsal." This is an adaptable version of traditional soccer that highlights accessibility - through different equipment, ball sizes/colors, and rulesets, it allows students of all abilities to have fun. PE teachers will have the opportunity to receive specialized equipment that fits their student population’s needs. Cell Cycle Activity In Ms. Tipton's science class at North Side Middle School, students took part in an engaging activity based around the cell cycle. Using small pieces of clay, they worked together in groups with activity sheets to simulate the life and reproduction of cells. It's always great to see students get a hands-on lesson in STEM subjects! Upcoming Events Nov. 9: EACC Open House Nov. 11: Veterans Day program @ West Side Middle School Nov. 14 & 15: EHS fall play Nov. 16: Stuff a Bus @ Cobblestone Martin's Dec. 6: Elkhart Education Foundation Ugly Sweater Run

ECS Highlights (Oct. 31st)
An Excellent Track Or Treat! We would like to sincerely thank the students, staff, and community partners that made this year's Track Or Treat excellent! Over 450 volunteers helped give out candy to 2,100 members of our community. A special recognition goes to the Lions Student Athletic Council, the Elkhart Athletic Council, and Elkhart High School Cheerleading, whose leadership for this event made such a fun evening possible. Preparing For Veterans Day Schools across ECS are planning their annual Veterans Day ceremonies, as our district prepares to honor those who have served our country. West Side Middle School would like to invite community veterans to its ceremony on Tuesday, November 11th, at 8:45 AM. A reception will follow in the school library. Veterans can RSVP and register for the event here. Holding Historic Debates Students in Mrs. Kong's Pre-AP World History class at the Freshman Division held a lively simulated debate this week. Six groups of students played the role of different nations in the mid-1400's after the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Empire. The debate was over how trade routes would be operate post-Constantinople, as well as new role of the Ottomans. A Spooky Art & Reading Lesson At Mary Feeser Elementary, 1st grade students in Mr. Brewer's art class read the book The Dancing Skeleton as a class. After doing so, they were challenged to draw life-sized skeletons in fun poses. This was achieved by having students laying down on large sheets of paper so other students could trace their outline, and then filling in that outline with the details of a skeleton.
