  • ECS Highlights (June 27th)

    Thank You, Summer Staff! This week marked the end of summer school programming for both elementary and high school students. We would like to recognize and thank the hard-working staff who have worked over the past few weeks to ensure these summer learning opportunities were informative, supportive, and empowering. You make learning possible all year long! All-State Jazz Choir Several Elkhart High School choir students performed in the Indiana All-State Jazz Choir. After auditioning for the choir earlier this year, they spent several weeks rehearsing complex jazz pieces, which they then performed with students from across Indiana. Elkhart music programs continue to produce and support outstanding musicians! Expanding Career Center Facilities We are continuing to track building improvements being made at several of our ECS facilities. At the Elkhart Area Career Center annex campus, work is underway on a pair of expansions: the first will support students in diesel and automotive services programs through expanded workspaces. The second will allow construction trades students to diversify their areas of concentration. Summer Football Programming Athletes on the Elkhart Lions football team had the opportunity to travel to Indiana Wesleyan University this week. There, they participated in a scrimmage with other top football athletes from other parts of the state. This is ahead of the ECS football community night on July 25th, where families and members of the community will get a preview of the football season ahead.   • ECS Highlights (June 20th)

    Huge Success For High School Golfers This week, the Elkhart High School boys golf team competed in state competition for the first time in over 2 decades. The team had an excellent performance, including a top 20 individual finish for incoming sophomore Ben Divido. Ben has also qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur, where over 200 of the nation's best young golfers will compete. Congratulations to these outstanding young athletes! Summer STEM Learning The Elkhart Area Career Center recently launched its annual "Camp Innovation" program. This allows students to learn about and tackle real-world engineering challenges. First week projects included hands-on experience with a wide variety of STEM opportunities, including electrical circuitry, 3D printing, robotic arm operations, and more. We appreciate our EACC staff and our community partners for making this program possible. Middle School Facility Improvements This summer, we’re hard at work on building improvements that will support modern, hands-on learning experiences. That includes all 3 of our middle schools, where significant steps are being taken to update and refine facilities as they prepare to welcome their first classes of 6th graders. We are excited for our families to see these updates at the start of the school year. Cheer Camp For Younger Students The Elkhart High School cheerleading team just wrapped up its summer camp for elementary students. The program gives these younger students the opportunity to work directly with members and staff of the high school team. On top of fundamentals of dance and performance, participating elementary students got to learn real routines used by high schoolers at athletic events.     Back-To-Back State Champions We would like to offer huge congratulations to the Elkhart High School Unified Track team, who just won their second consecutive state title! We invite the community to join us Monday, June 16, at the Freshman Division for a celebration of these outstanding student athletes and their accomplishments. National History Day Competitors For the second year in a row, West Side Middle School's National History Day team had the opportunity to compete at the national level in Washington D.C. Students constructed informational displays about important moments in our country's history, and presented them to a panel of judges. We're proud of the team for showing the excellence of ECS academics on the national stage! Exploring The Natural World Right now, Elkhart High School students are out on an earth science adventure in Colorado. This annual trip gives students the opportunity to conduct their own boots-on-the-ground research, as well as study parts of the natural world they wouldn't be able to in the midwest. We're excited to keep an eye on their ongoing studies! Banquets Celebrating ECS Athletes Elkhart Athletics held its annual Catherine Wolf and Tim Bringle Award banquets. This year's recipients, EHS graduates Elizabeth Higgins and Max Malloy, were celebrated for their outstanding leadership both inside and outside their sports. Additionally, elementary and middle school athletes from across the district were recognized, showing that excellence in ECS athletics is present at all levels.     Important Immunization Requirements for School Attendance According to Indiana Code 20-34-4-5, students who are not compliant with the required immunization schedule may not be permitted to attend school.   Immunization Requirements: All incoming and current students must have the following immunizations before the first day of school: 5-DTaP 4-Polio 3-Hepatitis B 2-MMR 2-Varicella 2-Hep A In addition to the above immunizations: Incoming 6th-grade students must have: Meningitis (MCV4) and Tdap before their first day of 6th grade. Incoming 12th-grade students must have: their second dose of Meningitis (MCV4) before their first day of 12th grade.   Important: Students without a record of these immunizations—or without a scheduled appointment on file with the health office—WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO ATTEND SCHOOL STARTING SEPTEMBER 3, 2025.   • Unified Track Homecoming Celebration

    Join Us For The Unified Track Homecoming Celebration! June 16, 2025 Please join us this coming Monday, June 16, to celebrate our two-peat state champion Unified Track athletes! This team, made up of students with and without cognitive disabilities, emphasizes the importance of inclusion, teamwork, and excellence. Elkhart Community Schools is proud to honor our Unified Track program for this outstanding honor. A homecoming celebration will be held Monday, June 16 at 6PM at the Elkhart High School Freshman Division. Festivities are scheduled to take place at Rice Field (the event will be moved inside in case of inclement weather).

  • ECS Highlights (June 6th)

    Congratulations, Class Of 2025! This week, nearly 800 Elkhart High School seniors and their families filled the University Of Notre Dame's Purcell Pavilion for the annual ECS commencement. The event highlighted the excellence of our students, as well as the district's commitment to ensuring they are career and life ready. We wish the class of 2025 the very best as they enter their next chapters. Track Athletes Headed To State Several Elkhart High School Track & Field Athletes will compete at state-level competition in Indianapolis this weekend. This includes multiple athletes on the boys and girls team, as well as the EHS Unified Track Team returning to defend their state title. We are confident that these student athletes will continue to excel as they have all season! Summer Band Activities Begins Throughout the summer, you may spot the Elkhart High School marching band practicing at the 10-12 campus. Band camp began this week for percussion students. This comes at an exciting time for the EHS band - over Memorial Day weekend, 6 students participated in the Indiana All-Star Marching Band that performed in the Indy 500 Festival Parade in Indianapolis A Student-Built Home Construction Trade students at the Elkhart Area Career Center had the chance to show off their outstanding work for the 2024-25 school year. An open house was held in celebration of the students completing the construction of a home on the west side of Elkhart. We would like to thank our EACC community partners who provided supplies and construction guidance.   • ECS Highlights (05/30)

    Senior Award Night This week, Elkhart High School held its annual Senior Award Night, recognizing the outstanding accomplishments and contributions the class of 2025 has made. The event highlighted academic achievement in each school of study, as well as the several thousands of dollars in scholarships earned by students. We are excited to see these seniors graduate this Tuesday, June 3rd. High School Athletic Awards Winners Elkhart Community Schools would like to congratulate Elkhart High School seniors Elizabeth Higgins and Max Malloy, this year's recipients of the Catherine Wolf and Tim Bringle Awards respectively. These honors are given to senior student athletes who exemplify excellence and community both in and out of competition. Both will be honored at banquets later in June. Sending 5th Graders Off To Middle School With ECS making the transition to 6th to 8th grade middle schools, our elementary schools district-wide held sendoffs for both their 5th and 6th grade students. At Pinewood Elementary, staff and families recognized the 5th graders who achieved academic and personal excellence, as well as the athletes of Pinewood's multiple city champion teams. Collaborative Storybooks Creative Arts students at Elkhart High School just finished a project combining writing, art, and collaboration. Students at elementary schools (including Mary Daly as pictured here) came up with concepts, stories, and characters. From there, the Creative Arts students worked to transform their ideas into fully-fledged books including text and illustrations.   • Summer Food Service Program

    Summer Food Service Program Elkhart Community Schools Food Service will once again conduct the Summer Food Service Program. Sites will offer free of charge breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to students from Monday, June 9th through Thursday, August 7th. Families can find the schedule  here and under the links section of the ParentSquare App . Sites and times are tentative and subject to change. The program will close at all locations June 30th through July 7th.

  • ECS Highlights (05/23)

    Letter Of Intent Signings Earlier this week, education students at Elkhart High School and the Elkhart Area Career Center signed letters of intent. The letters state that, after these students finish their secondary education, they aim to return to ECS at teachers This tradition demonstrates not only the excellence of these students, but ECS's commitment to supporting students who will go on to serve their community in their professional lives. Family Friendly Schools Designation Congratulations to Monger and Riverview Elementaries, who were named 2 of the state’s 45 most Family Friendly Schools by the IDOE! This honor recognizes schools statewide who go above and beyond in engaging the families of their students in all aspects of their education. We greatly appreciate each school's staff for their commitment to creating a culture of excellence and support. Fine Arts Day On Thursday, May 22nd, Cleveland Elementary celebrated its annual Fine Arts Day. The event is a celebration of the outstanding arts programs the school offers. The day included school-wide recorder performances, spotlights on other student musicians, galleries of student art, and an open house where families were able to see the hard work Cleveland's artists have put in through the whole school year. Preparing Incoming Freshmen Athletes Elkhart High School Athletics held its annual incoming freshmen event at Rice Field this week. It allows students to meet each other and their coaches, as well as learn more about the expectations they will face as high school athletes. The athletes also participated a variety of team-building exercises. It was a great way to get these incoming freshmen prepared and excited for their high school athletic careers.
