We're excited to share the  first Counseling Department Newsletter of the 2026–2027 school year! Each edition will provide our K-12 families with helpful information, important updates, upcoming events, resources, and opportunities to support our students’ academic, college and career, and wellness needs. Our goal is to keep families informed and connected throughout the school year and to provide resources that are meaningful and accessible to our students and families.     Dear 11th Grade Students and Families, We are excited to continue offering 11th grade students the opportunity to connect with college representatives here at CSH Jr./Sr. HS through small-group college representative sessions. To avoid missing instructional time, students may attend these sessions only during their lunch or study hall periods. Registration is required, and students must register through their Naviance accounts by following these steps: Log in to your Naviance account. Click the Colleges tab. Select Research Colleges. Click College Visits. Click Register Now for the college visit you would like to attend. Please click here to view the list of colleges scheduled to visit us in the coming months. This information is also available on the Counseling Center website  here   We hope students take advantage of these visits, which are designed to provide valuable information about colleges while giving students an opportunity to connect directly with college admissions representatives. Important: If you plan to attend a college representative visit during a class period, you must have a signed pass from your teacher prior to attending the visit. Passes are available in your Naviance Documents and in the Counseling Center. Registration for college representative visits is required.     Dear Grade 12 Students and Families, This is a friendly reminder that Ms. Henry and Mr. Miller are offering seminars on writing college essays and supplemental essays . Please  click here to view the flyer for dates and additional information. If you did not attend a seminar last spring, please plan to attend  one of the sessions listed on the flyer before scheduling an individual conference. Students who participated in a seminar last spring do not need to attend again. We hope our seniors find this additional support helpful as they work through the college application process.   • Important Message: PSAT/NMSQT, October 28th

    Dear 10th & 11th Grade Families, We are pleased to announce that Cold Spring Harbor Jr./Sr. High School will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 during school hours, to students in grades 10 and 11. New this year, there is no cost for students to take the PSAT/NMSQT. The PSAT/NMSQT is an excellent opportunity for students to become familiar with the digital SAT format, gain valuable testing experience, and, for eligible juniors, compete for recognition through the National Merit Scholarship Program. If your child would like to participate, please complete the PSAT/NMSQT registration form below by  Friday, October 2. PSAT Preparation: Students can prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT using College Board's free official practice resources, including full-length digital practice tests, practice questions, and test-taking resources.  Click here to access College Board's PSAT/NMSQT Practice & Preparation resources. Digital Readiness Check: All registered students will need to complete the Digital Readiness Check on their school-issued Chromebook.   • First Ever Fall College Fair at CSH Jr./Sr. HS!

    Dear CSH Jr./Sr. HS Families: We are excited to announce that  Cold Spring Harbor Jr./Sr. High School will be hosting its first Fall College Fair on Monday, October 5, 2026, during periods 2 and 3. All students in grades 7–12 are welcome and encouraged to attend. Teachers have been invited to bring their classes to the College Fair. If your child’s period 2 or 3 class will not be attending the fair and your child would like to attend independently, they may request a pass from the Counseling Center or  print one in advance here .   A teacher signature is required, and the signed pass will serve as the student’s entrance pass to the event. ​ A current  list of colleges and universities attending is available for students and families to review. To help students make the most of their time at the fair, we will also provide a  list of suggested questions they can ask college admissions representatives. These questions are designed to encourage meaningful conversations and help students learn more about each college beyond what they may find on its website. We encourage all students to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to explore different colleges, ask questions, connect with admissions representatives, and begin thinking about what they may want in their future college experience!   • Class of 2027 Senior Year Welcome & Important Inform...

    Dear Class of 2027 Students and Families: Please read this message in its entirety, as it contains important and time-sensitive information for all seniors. Welcome to Senior Year! 🎓 The year ahead will be filled with exciting opportunities, important milestones, and memorable moments as the Class of 2027 prepares for life after high school. Whether you are building your college list, working on applications, exploring career options, or still deciding what comes next, the counselors and I are here to support you throughout the process. Throughout the year, we will share important information through individual counselor meetings, classroom and family presentations,  The Guidance Light  newsletter, ParentSquare, Naviance, and the Class of 2027 Canvas page. We encourage students and families to stay connected, ask questions, and take advantage of the resources and opportunities available to you. Please review the information below as you begin your senior year. 1.  Transcript Review & Required Form Updated transcripts are now available in the eschool portal. Please carefully review your transcript to ensure that all information is accurate and complete. At the bottom of this message, you will find the Authorization for Release of Records & Financial Aid Verification Form. Through this digital form, you will confirm that your transcript is accurate or report any discrepancies or omissions. If you believe a grade change is needed, please speak directly with the teacher. Once a grade change has been discussed, approved, and processed, please wait until the corrected transcript appears in eSchool before submitting the form. Please complete the form no later than October 16. Important: Federal law requires signed authorization from both the student and a parent/legal guardian before we can release school records to colleges, universities, or other institutions. In accordance with NYS Education Law §305(61), the form will also ask families to indicate their plans regarding completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 2.  Counselor Meetings & Classroom Presentations Your counselors are looking forward to working with you throughout the college and post-secondary planning process. On September 15 and 17, the counselors will visit English classes to review the college application process, procedures, and important next steps. Following these presentations, students may schedule individual appointments with their counselor for personalized guidance and support. Whether you have a clear plan or are still exploring your options, we are here to help you move forward with confidence. 3.  Important Grade 12 Events We encourage students and families to take advantage of these upcoming programs and resources: College Application Process Meeting for Students & Parents/Guardians: Thank you to everyone who attended! College Essay Assistance: Mr. Miller and Ms. Henry will begin offering College Essay Seminars and Individual Assistance on September 15.   Click here  for details. College Financial Aid Night: September 24, 2026, at 5:45 p.m. in the HS Library, before Back-to-School Night. NEW! CSH Fall College Fair: October 5, 2026, during Periods 2–3 in the New Gym. Students who wish to attend must have teacher approval and present a signed permission slip upon entry. These visits provide an excellent opportunity to learn more about individual colleges, ask questions, and connect directly with admissions professionals. Students must register for each visit through Naviance. If attending a visit requires missing class, students must obtain teacher permission. Students should check Naviance regularly, carefully review eligibility requirements, and verify deadlines directly with the scholarship organization. In addition to financial assistance offered by colleges, many outside scholarship opportunities are available to students. 6.  College Planning Resources The Counseling Center has created resources to help the Class of 2027 stay organized and on track throughout the college application process: 12th Grade College Application Process Timeline/Checklist College Application Tracker We hope these tools will help you stay organized, informed, and confident as you navigate the college application process. Looking Ahead Senior year moves quickly, and there is a great deal to accomplish.   • On Site SAT & ACT Preparation by Method Learning: Up...

    Dear CSH Families, I wanted to follow up with a quick update regarding our SAT and ACT test preparation opportunities through Method Learning. There was a temporary glitch with the QR codes that Method Learning provided on the registration flyers. The QR codes have now been  reactivated and are working properly . Method Learning sincerely apologizes for this mishap and any inconvenience it may have caused. As a reminder, we will continue to offer on-site SAT test preparation through Method Learning and, new this year,  and for the first time, we are pleased to offer ACT test preparation as well! These classes are designed to provide students with focused preparation, strategies, and practice to help them feel more confident and prepared for their upcoming exams. Registration information is available in the flyers below: ACT Test Prep   SAT Test Prep We encourage families to review the available options and select the test preparation program that best meets their student’s needs and testing plans.
