Update: Monitoring Weather and School Schedules
Dear Spring-Ford Families, In preparation for potential inclement weather on Tuesday, devices will be sent home with students this afternoon. Please note, this is NOT an indication that a delay or Flexible Instruction Day (FID) has been decided. This is simply a precautionary measure to ensure students are prepared should a FID be necessary. For more information about Flexible Instruction Days , including schedules and expectations, please visit our FID Resource Page here. The decision regarding tomorrow’s schedule will be made early tomorrow morning and notifications would be sent before 5:30 a.m. There will only be an announcement if the school district implements a delay or FID. If schools open as normal, no communication will be sent. We will continue to monitor the weather and carefully consider all factors before making a final decision. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we plan for every possibility. Sincerely, Jim Scanlon Interim Superintendent Information about Delayed Start Times A delayed opening giv es our district additional time to assess weather conditions, treat roads and walkways, ensure that bus routes are safe, and confirm that our buildings are ready to welcome students. Our goal is always to balance safety with minimizing disruption for families, and a two-hour delay is often the best option when conditions are expected to improve with just a little more time. AM KINDERGARTEN SESSION: 11 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. PM KINDERGARTEN SESSION: 1:55 - 3:40 p.m. GRADES 1-6: 11 a.m. start time GRADES 7 AND 8: 10:05 a.m. start time GRADES 9-12: 9:40 a.m. start time WMCTC STUDENTS: WMCTC would report two hours later than their usual time. Breakfast is not provided during a two-hour delay. Lunch is provided as normal. Information about Flexible Instruction Days A Virtual Day or FID will be used in place of a snow day or other unplanned school closure and eliminate the need for a make-up day because students perform classwork at home. On a weather related Virtual Day, students will complete learning assignments provided by the teacher at home through Canvas. Students will follow a modified schedule with virtual lessons via Google Meet synchronously for a portion of the day. Click here for more information, including a detailed schedule.

Weekly Update | Happy Thanksgiving
In This Weekly Update Message from Dr. Scanlon Citadel Heart of Learning Award WMCTC Open House Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Bieber What We're Watching on RCTV Preparing for a FID 2025-2026 Calendar Message from Dr. Scanlon Dear Spring-Ford Community, As we wrap up a successful first quarter of the school year, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to our students, families, and staff for the positivity, engagement, and support you bring to our district every day. Spring-Ford thrives because of the collective commitment of our entire community. This season is a wonderful time to celebrate together, show gratitude, and share kindness. Thank you to the many students, families, and staff members who support one another and participate in school and community efforts to make a difference. These acts of generosity and care not only strengthen our schools but also inspire our students and model the values that will guide them for years to come. As we head into the Thanksgiving break, I hope each of you finds time to rest, recharge, and enjoy moments of joy and connection with the people who matter most. Wishing you and your family a warm, restorative, and meaningful Thanksgiving. Thank you for being an essential part of the Spring-Ford community. Sincerely, Dr. Scanlon Giving Back and Paying It Forward Over the past few years, the Hansell Family, along with dedicated volunteers and friends, has assembled Thanksgiving meal baskets for Spring-Ford families in need. This year, their volunteer dream team distributed more than 90 baskets throughout the community! Each basket was filled with all the food supplies needed for a complete Thanksgiving dinner, including dry and canned goods, mixes, and a certificate or gift card for a turkey and pie. One volunteer reflected, "It’s truly amazing to see how much the Spring-Ford community cares…every basket item is donated by community members, for community members." Message from Board President Erica Hermans Dear Spring-Ford Community, As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your participation in the recent MCIU Superintendent Search Survey. Your thoughtful feedback reflects the deep pride, passion, and commitment that define our Spring-Ford community. On behalf of the Board, thank you for taking the time to share your perspectives and for helping guide this important process. Looking ahead, the Board will begin the first round of interviews in early December. These panel-style interviews will allow the Board an opportunity to observe candidates as they interact with teachers, support staff, and administrators. We will be evaluating each candidate carefully, guided in part by the priorities and insights you provided through the survey. Our goal is to narrow the candidate pool before conducting second and, if necessary, third round interviews in the new year. Based on our initial timeline, we anticipate selecting a finalist and bringing that individual forward for approval in February. I would also like to share that, as part of our annual reorganization on December 1, the Board will appoint a new Board President and Vice President. While it has truly been an honor to serve as Board President over the past three years and I will remain on the Board as one of nine members, I will not be seeking another term as Board President. Please be assured that the incoming President will continue to provide timely updates to the community on the superintendent search to ensure a smooth and well-coordinated transition. The Board remains committed to conducting a thorough and thoughtful search for our next superintendent. Thank you once again for your engagement, support, and dedication to our district. I hope you and your families enjoy a warm, safe, and meaningful Thanksgiving holiday. Warm regards, Erica Hermans, SFASD Board President WMCTC Open House - December 4 It’s never too early to start planning for your future! Class Spotlight: Mrs. Bieber An Educational Foundation grant recipient, Mrs. Bieber, used her award to purchase 15 new cup stacking sets, allowing every student in the class to participate individually. Previously, students shared sets or use Solo cups, but the activity has already proven highly engaging and popular. Cup stacking supports hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, cognitive development, focus, and teamwork. It’s an activity that benefits all students, including ELD learners, by building confidence and communication skills. With these additional sets, the program could expand into an after-school club and even explore competition opportunities. The 2024–2025 Spring-Ford Educational Foundation grants supported 10 innovative classroom initiatives, with a total of approximately $3,550 awarded. These grants empowered teachers to bring creative ideas to life, from hands-on science labs and flexible seating solutions to resources that support literacy and math in the classroom. Each recipient used their grant to enhance student engagement, foster critical thinking, and provide unique learning opportunities, demonstrating the Foundation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that inspire both teachers and students. She believed with her entire soul that kindness mattered, right up until she lost her battle with cancer in the spring of 2020. With September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, once again we are asking the Spring-Ford community to wear blue and do something kind for someone else on September 20th in Ella's honor.
