  • Message from Spring-Ford School Board Leadership

Dear Spring-Ford Families, Staff, and Community Members, The Spring-Ford Board of School Directors remains fully committed to transparency, trust, and the highest standards of professionalism as we plan for the future of our district. With those values in mind, I’d like to provide an update on the search for both an Interim Superintendent and, ultimately, a permanent successor.  Dr. John Sanville, who had been scheduled for appointment as Interim Superintendent at the June 23, 2025 Board Meeting, has informed the district that he will be pursuing an opportunity in the private sector and will not be joining Spring-Ford. While this was an unexpected development, we respect his decision and wish him all the best in this next chapter. We also extend our sincere gratitude for his many years of dedicated service and steady leadership in public education. Looking ahead, the Board remains focused on selecting an Interim Superintendent with the knowledge, experience, and leadership skills necessary to guide us into the 2025–2026 school year. We have spent the last several weeks meeting with a strong pool of highly qualified candidates and remain confident in the depth of talent available. We anticipate introducing another outstanding candidate in the weeks ahead. Simultaneously, we are preparing to launch a comprehensive and inclusive search for a permanent Superintendent. This process will include opportunities for community input in the upcoming school year, and we look forward to hearing your perspectives as we shape the future of Spring-Ford together. Thank you for your continued support and patience during this important transition. Sincerely, Erica Hermans, President, Spring-Ford Area School District Board of School Directors

While only one book is required, we encourage students to read even more, a book a month is a great goal! This presentation includes a variety of book suggestions that have been popular with students in the past. These are not required titles, students have complete freedom to choose what they want to read. The most important thing is that they read something they enjoy. All reading counts! Graphic novels, poetry, and audiobooks are all great options. Students are welcome to follow along with a physical book while listening to an audiobook. There will be no formal report or test on the book(s) students read over the summer. However, beginning-of-the-year activities will center around summer reading, so students should come prepared to talk about their book(s). Each reading teacher may approach these activities a little differently, but sample questions might include: What did you enjoy about the book? Who were the main characters and what was the setting? What was the theme or main message? Who else do you think would like this book? Happy reading! June is Great Outdoors Month Great Outdoors Month in June calls for outdoor enthusiasts to spend time outside and celebrate all nature offers. • Weekly Update | Final Countdown

In This Weekly  Update Final Weekly Update Takeover of 2025 Last Week in Spring-Ford Prepare for the Last Days of School Superintendent Search Update Congratulations Dr. Di Pietro-Edwards PSQ Parent Feedback Survey Spring-Ford Night at the Phillies Spring-Ford Event Guide Spring-Ford Shopping Guide                 Message from Erica Hermans, School Board President Dear Spring-Ford Community Members, I hope this letter finds you well. As the President of the Spring-Ford School Board, it is with a mix of gratitude and anticipation that I share some important news regarding the leadership of our district. As previously communicated, effective August 1, 2025, our Superintendent, Mr. Robert Rizzo, will be retiring after many years of service in public education. Mr. Rizzo's leadership has been instrumental in shaping Spring-Ford into the exceptional district it is today. His commitment to our students, staff, and families has been unwavering, and his contributions will be deeply missed. We are grateful for his tireless efforts and the positive impact he has had on our community.   The Spring-Ford School Board of Directors is committed to being deliberate and thorough in our search for the next Superintendent to ensure that we find the best possible leader for our district. To this end, the School Board has already begun taking proactive steps.   We are working closely with Spring-Ford’s Director of Human Resources and Spring-Ford’s Solicitor to curate a pool of highly qualified candidates who can serve as an interim Superintendent for the start of the 2025-2026 school year. The goal is to identify someone who can maintain the momentum and stability of our district while we conduct a comprehensive search for a permanent successor. In this process, we are fortunate to have the support and expertise of Spring-Ford’s administrative team, who have demonstrated strong leadership and a deep understanding of our district's needs and values. These individuals will play a crucial role in the interim period and will continue to be key figures of the District.   Additionally, the Board will be collaborating with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) to discuss the process and next steps in posting for a full-time Superintendent. The MCIU has a wealth of experience in these matters and will provide valuable guidance to ensure that we follow best practices and identify the most suitable candidate for Spring-Ford.   The Board is committed to transparency and involvement from multiple stakeholders throughout this process. Additional details about the timeline will be shared over the summer months. Your feedback and insights are invaluable in the process of identifying a leader who will continue to uphold the high standards and community-focused spirit that Mr. Rizzo has brought to the district.   Thank you for your continued support and trust in the Spring-Ford Area School District. This partnership remains essential to ensuring a smooth transition and a strong future for all students and staff.   Warm regards, Erica Hermans, President, Spring-Ford School Board Congratulations Dr. Di Pietro-Edwards On Tuesday, May 27, 2025 Dr. Kelly Di Pietro-Edwards was approved as the new 10-12 Grade Center Principal! Dr. Di Pietro-Edwards began her career in education as a Spanish teacher in the Twin Valley School District, where she taught grades 5-8, developed World Language curriculum, and served on the building leadership team. After earning her principal certification in 2016, she transitioned into administration as a high school assistant principal in the same district. Over the next six years, she led curriculum efforts as the secondary curriculum liaison, served on several community organization boards, and participated in a county-wide initiative to strengthen college and career readiness for students.   Dr. Di Pietro-Edwards joined the Spring-Ford family in June 2022 as the 9th Grade Center Principal. During her tenure, she has focused on data-driven decision making, the modernization of building procedures including the implementation of electronic hall passes, and fostering a positive and inclusive climate and culture for both students and staff. Her commitment to innovation, student success, and staff collaboration has contributed to a supportive and forward-thinking learning environment.   Congratulations, Dr. Di Pietro-Edwards! Class Spotlight: 7th Grade Social Studies Highlight This article is from the April edition of the 7th Grade student newspaper, The Scoop During the third marking period Social Studies classes were able to explore the continent of Europe; an amazing 44 countries make up this continent. To help students learn a little piece of this area many classes completed country posters. The students randomly selected a country and completed research on various areas to get a full picture of what the country was like. Students explored areas of geography, culture, and cuisine. They also had to show visuals with maps, flag, and tourist attractions. The teachers saw this knowledge being used as we learned the unit. Students would share facts of countries they knew and had better knowledge of locations by completing this project. We hope students enjoyed learning about Europe. We are into Africa and Asia for more exploring.Below are some samples of the Europe posters. • Important Update from Mr. Rizzo

Good afternoon Spring-Ford,  After 32 years dedicated to public education, I have made the decision to retire. This decision, made with the full support of my family, comes after careful consideration of my personal and professional goals. Since joining Spring-Ford in 2019, I have been deeply impressed by the strength and spirit of this community. My initial understanding of the district, informed by my background in music education and research during my consideration of the Assistant Superintendent role, has been enriched by firsthand experience. Spring-Ford is more than just a school district; it is a community built upon genuine connections, kindness, and a profound sense of belonging. It has been a privilege to be part of such a remarkable place.  In the coming days and weeks, the School Board will initiate the process of selecting a successor. Opportunities for community input will be provided, and I encourage your participation to ensure a smooth transition and the continued progress of Spring-Ford.  I plan to remain engaged in the education sector in a future capacity. My final day with Spring-Ford will be August 1, 2025. While my role as a leader will conclude, I am grateful to remain a member of this community as a proud Spring-Ford parent. I look forward to supporting the district's ongoing growth and success. Sincerely, Mr. Rizzo, Superintendent

He did an outstanding job competing against some of the best spellers in the region. Sreeram’s run came to an emotional end during a challenging round in which he misheard the word “condiments” as “continents”—a word he then spelled correctly. The judges took time to review the situation but ultimately ruled it as an error. While the elimination was tough, Sreeram demonstrated poise, skill, and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Spring-Ford 5K Run/Walk Update IMPORTANT UPDATE: the 11th Annual Spring-Ford 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for this Friday, and after some long looks at the weather and difficult conversations, we’ve decided to postpone the event to Friday May 16th. The 5K is typically rain or shine but the forecast is calling for heavy rain and temperatures in the low 40s. Given the projected weather conditions and the age of our runners (we’re SO PROUD to have so many young runners!) moving to a day with better conditions is the right move to keep our runners safe. We hope you'll join us at the High School on Friday, May 16 for the Kids' Fun Run & the 5K! We’ll keep our fingers crossed for the best weather imaginable!
