Update Regarding Tomorrow's School Schedule: Updated...
Good evening, Plainfield families. First, I want to express my sincere gratitude for your incredible patience and flexibility. I want to specifically thank you for your help with today's early dismissal; I am relieved to report that all of our buses made it home safely before the road conditions began to deteriorate. At this time, conditions appear to be quite challenging, and we truly hope that everyone is able to stay off the roads and remain safe this evening. This has been perhaps the most challenging winter we have seen in some time, and your continued support as we navigate these constant weather shifts does not go unnoticed. We truly appreciate the grace and understanding you have shown our staff and administration. As a parent myself, I personally understand how disruptive schedule shifts can be to your professional responsibilities, childcare arrangements, and family routines. My goal is always to communicate as early as possible with the information I have available, which is why I am reaching out now. Plainfield Schools will be converting tomorrow’s early release day into a full school day. By making tomorrow a full day, we create the necessary window for a potential delayed arrival, which current weather conditions suggest may be needed. We recognize many of you made plans based on the original calendar, and therefore, any absences tomorrow—whether for a full or partial day—will be an excused absence upon parent request. The forecasted conditions for this evening replicate the weather we experienced last week, and I want to ensure we have the flexibility to prioritize safety. If freezing rain necessitates a delay, I will communicate a final decision on a delay tomorrow morning before 5:15 a.m. __________________________________________________________________ End-of-Year & Calendar Revisions In recent weeks, many families have approached me with a shared concern: the desire to avoid taking days out of April vacation. I have heard your requests to preserve state holidays and the precious time families already have planned to be together. The attached pdf contains my adjustments to the academic calendar, which I believe honor those priorities while still accounting for our high number of winter cancellations. Please note the following: Wednesday March 18th is now a half day for students. Schools will be communicating an adjustment to conference schedules later this week. Our last student day is currently scheduled for Thursday, June 18th (half day). High School Graduation for students in grade 12 remains on June 12th, as previously set by the Board of Education. Thank you again for your understanding. This will certainly be a winter we are discussing for many years to come. Paul M. Brenton
