Her unwavering dedication to excellence in teaching and her profound impact on the lives of her students make her an outstanding candidate for the Superintendent's Above and Beyond Award." Congratulations to Pike High School Varsity Football for starting the season off 1-0 with a big win over Zionsville. Their next game will be at Fishers on Friday, August 30th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Courtesy of Pike High School Athletics Attendance Matters Absences add up! Missing just 2 days a month means a child misses 10% of the school year, and that can make it more difficult for students to meet important educational milestones like reading well by the end of 3rd grade, passing important courses in middle school, and staying on track for graduation. Source: Attendance Works Congratulations to Pike High School Boys Tennis for their conference win yesterday. They defeated Warren Central 4-1 with straight sets from 1S Chris Castellon-Perez, 1D Vazquez/Lewis, 2D Dunlevy/Jackson. JV also celebrated a win (4-2) against the Warriors, with wins from 1S Frankie Holohan, 2S CJ Freeman, 1D Djordjevic/Chamberlin, 3D Bell/Segbor. Labor Day All MSD of Pike Township Schools and offices will be closed on Monday, September 2nd, in observance of Labor Day. Per the U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. Attendance Matters Attending school regularly is essential to students gaining the academic, social, and emotional skills they need to thrive. Chronic absence, no matter its cause, has real-life consequences for students, families, and society as a whole. Research shows starting as early as preschool and kindergarten, chronic absence—missing 10% of the academic year—can leave third graders unable to read proficiently, sixth graders struggling with coursework, and high school students off track for graduation. SCES Principal Presents at SBOE Meeting Snacks Crossing Elementary School Principal, Donielle Jones, was asked to present at this month's Indiana State Board of Education meeting. Mrs. Jones discussed the factors that she believed contributed to her school's 18.5% growth in reading achievement. She attributed the success to intentional planning focused on data, progress monitoring, and being responsive to student needs; dedicated staff, including interventionists and coaches, who voluntarily participated in independent professional development opportunities related to literacy; and consistent instruction in every classroom that led to rich dialogue and extensive student engagement. Cell Phone Policy - Indiana Senate Enrolled Act 185 Indiana law Senate Enrolled Act 185 applies to personal communication devices (PCD). To comply with the law and ensure a focused and productive learning environment, the use of cell phones and smart watches will now be prohibited during instructional hours, with a few limited exceptions which include teacher-approved educational purposes, health care and emergencies, and Individualized Educational Plans. Important Information - New State Attendance Law
Dear Pike Families, As we embark on a new school year, I want to emphasize the critical importance of daily student attendance and share some important information regarding a new law SB 282 - Absenteeism that took effect on July 1, 2024. As you know, regular attendance is vital for your child's academic success and overall development. Every school day provides unique opportunities for learning and growth that cannot be replicated outside the classroom. With this in mind, the state of Indiana has established new requirements of schools pertaining to chronic absenteeism. Details are outlined below: Parent Conference Requirement: If a student, in grades K-6, misses 5 days within a 10-week period, a mandatory parent conference will be scheduled. During this meeting, we will work together to create an action plan aimed at reducing the number of unexcused absences and supporting your child's attendance. Referral to Marion County Prosecutor's Office : Should a student reach 10 days of unexcused absences, the new law requires that the student be referred to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office for truancy. In addition, as required by Indiana state statute, any student in grades K-12 who attains 10 unexcused absence days (habitual truant) will be referred to the Department of Children’s Services. We understand that there may be valid reasons for absences, such as illness or family bereavement. In such cases, please communicate with your child’s school as soon as possible so that attendance is properly coded in Skyward, the student information system. Our goal is to work collaboratively with you to ensure that your child attends school regularly and benefits fully from their education. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Together, we can establish and maintain a productive learning environment for all students. If you have any questions or concerns about this new law or your child's attendance, do not hesitate to contact us.

Mrs. Miranda was our 2024 Pike High School and District Teacher of the Year. She serves as the English Learners Department Chair at Pike High School. Income Based Assistance Our district currently participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the National School Lunch Program. Breakfasts and lunches are free for ALL students. Students may opt to purchase a la carte items or additional servings for a fee. Families may add money to their child’s lunch account for this purpose at www.myschoolbucks.com. It is still important for families who receive or are interested in applying for income-based assistance to complete the Household Income Form application for the 2024-2025 school year. Completing the application may enable you to receive benefits such as free internet, Pike swimming discounts, scholarships, grants, and reduced early childhood program fees. Please note, a new application must be completed each school year. 2024-2025 Application Select Your Preferred Language in ParentSquare ParentSquare’s translation feature enables teachers to effectively communicate with families in their native language by providing auto-translation for over 100 languages within the platform. Native or home language is pulled directly from the student's enrollment or registration information in Skyward. Follow the steps below to change the language for Posts and Messages sent to you. 1. From Home, tap the triple bars (menu) in the upper left. 2. Select Account, then Preferences. 3. From the Preferences screen select Language. 4. Choose your preferred language. You will receive all post messages in your preferred language. You will also be able to send a message back to your child's teacher in your preferred language and they will receive it in English. Back to School Nights Back to School Night is an evening event where parents and guardians meet their child's teacher(s) to learn about the upcoming school year. It is a chance to get to know the teacher(s), understand the curriculum, and discover ways to support your child's learning at home.
