Beth brings more than two decades of educational experience, including roles as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and regional literacy coach. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her leadership in literacy improvement, educator development, systems change, and equitable instructional practices.  Reflecting on her transition to SANB, Beth shared, โ€œFrom my first conversations with the Teaching and Learning team, I was struck by the depth of expertise, commitment, and passion for student success. It was clear that this is a district where people are eager to learn from one another and work collectively to make a difference for students.โ€   SAVHS Scholarship Award Night ๐Ÿ’ฐ At the June 1st SAVHS Awards and Scholarship Ceremony, 65 scholarships from local sponsors were awarded to seniors totaling $113,000! This support reflects the strength of a community that believes in its students and invests in their next steps beyond SAVHS.   SAMS Haiku Highlights โœ’๏ธ Together, SAMS teaching alum Caley Vickerman and the 8th grade teachers got more than 150 ) 13- and 14-year-olds to write over 350 haikus in 90 minutes! They 8th graders romped around in and outside, talked to strangers and friends, and made the best kind of mischief.  Some students who do not like to write, participated and expressed gratitude to teachers, and said goodbye to each other in haiku form. It was wonderful The way students shined brightly Gratitude for all Ten languages were represented, and a crew of humans whose first language is Spanish wrote all of their haiku (and they were gloriously beautiful ones) entirely in Spanish. When attempting something so wildly ambitious (and perhaps slightly insane) as this, you must rely on all sorts of chaperones, community members, caregivers and partners. Thanks to all who helped make it happen!   Patriots Marching Band Parade Schedule ๐Ÿฅ Staff are invited to support the Patriots Marching Band this summer as they perform throughout the community and beyond. For full context and exact remarks, please watch the meeting recording. Head Softball Coach Melissa Brandenburg recently traveled with 40 student athletes from both the softball and baseball teams to Orlando, Florida for Spring training of the team with unofficial games and team building activities. This trip was funded entirely through fundraising and parents. Director of Athletics, Activities, and Facilities Dr. Troy Urdahl, District Facilities Coordinator Mark Gibbs, and architect Ben Berry from Wold Architects shared updates on the SAMS/SAVHS bathroom remodel and retaining wall rebuild. The remodelled bathroom is scheduled to be ready for use before the beginning of the 26-27 school year. Discussions also took place around storage and kitchen facilities at Wilshire Park, the SAMS/SAVHS band area, accessibility of the auditorium, and gym locker rooms.  Any construction contract valued over $175,000 must be put out as a public bid process. Bidders must provide a bond showing compliance with the state and ability to complete the project. For contracts under $175,000, the District can seek quotes for the project. MN Aggregates from St. Francis, Minnesota submitted the low base bid in the amount of $187,350 for the project. This base bid combined with the Alternate 1 of $11,000 makes the project total $198,350. The board approved the recommended motion to approve the retaining wall project bid from MN Aggregates as presented. Superintendent Renee Corneille and Assistant Superintendent Hope Fagerland presented the 25-26 and 26-27 budget reports, comparing each budget year. Discussions focused on handling a state funding shortfall for English Language Learner (ELL) programs and managing an increase in qualifying Special Education students, which will require shifting staff resources. The board will vote on the 26-27 budget at its June 2 meeting. The board has directed administration to pause the facility rental fees for St. Anthony nonprofits such as St. Anthony Boosters groups. Until further notice, the current facility rental process for these groups will remain in effect. There was a second reading of the policies: Policy 423 - Employee Student Relations, Policy 722 - Public Data and Data Subject Requests, Policy 425 - Staff Development and Mentoring, and Policy 905 - Advertising.  There was a first reading of Policy 213 - School Board Committees.  The board will review the Resolution Establishing a School Board Engagement Committee for the 2026-27 School Year to evaluate how such a committee is operated. This committee would include a non-quorum number of members of the board alongside administration to discuss, plan, and expand board community engagement opportunities. The board discussed planning for VillageFest which will take place on July 31 and August 1. Director Bosmans will head the planning for VillageFest 2026. 05.19.26 Meeting Recording May Wellness Challenge ๐Ÿ† For the month of May, we will be playing Well-Being BINGO! Chronic stress can have many effects on our well-being. Over time, stress can have physical and mental impacts that last. Having daily routines that include mindfulness and movement can help to combat the everyday stressors that we face. Here are a few ideas to help you on your wellness journey: Take a daily walk - even 10 minutes makes a huge difference.  Practice mindfulness such as meditation, grounding or breathing exercises, or just reminding yourself to stay in the present moment.  Eat healthy foods. Diets high in processed foods and refined sugars do not give our bodies the nutrients we need to face our everyday challenges. Eat fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low fat proteins, and healthy fats (like olive oil and avocado). Get plenty of rest. Turn off screens 30-60 minutes before bedtime. Set a regular bedtime and routine to help your body know that itโ€™s time for sleep.   Set boundaries on your time. Monitor the time you spend on social media, turn down unnecessary commitments. Tap into your social network. Meet up with friends, connect over the phone, talk to a trusted colleague.  Take time for hobbies. Being creative helps us be better problem solvers and builds our resilience. Strive for a positive outlook. Reframe your thoughts (remember- thoughts are not facts). We are often least kind to ourselves. Set realistic expectations for yourself.  Connect with your community or faith-based organizations.  Seek help! Reach out to the Employee Assistance Program (password: Sourcewell). Reach out to HealthPartners mental and behavioral health 612-371-5400. Reach out to Destiny Sparks or Lori Watzl-King who can help with referrals.  Which of these strategies will you use to help combat your daily stress? The board decided to have a discussion about the two finalists in lieu of an applicant interview. The board discussed the two finalist candidates who were revealed to be Amy Kalar with the highest total, followed by Stacy Dean. The board made an amendment addendum to the agenda to make a motion to fill the school board vacancy by appointment. The board voted to approve the resolution to appoint Amy Kalar to the board.  Effective Instruction Coordinator Laura Guerrero presented on the 2026 updated success metrics. The goals include academic excellence, student wellness, and being a positive contributor. Guerrero presented on standardized test data, teacher coaching cycles, panorama assessments, and more.
