  • 26-27 Tech Insurance & Chargers

Good Afternoon, We hope everyone is having a great start to the 2026-2027 school year. We have received questions on how to pay the annual $20 insurance fee for student iPads and laptops. Remember that this cost covers accidental damage to devices. It is important to know that missing keys on the keyboard are considered  intentional damage and not covered under the insurance. The fine for missing keys can be up to $200 as in most cases the entire top case has to be replaced if the membrane under the key is damaged. Please remind your students to take special care of their iPad or laptop. It provides access to curriculum, software, and other tools that are important for learning, problem solving, and critical thinking. Remember to review and sign the Device Use Agreement in  PowerSchool under forms. It will need to be completed for each student. Use the link below to pay insurance fees. You may also purchase an additional charger. Laptop chargers are $25 and iPad chargers are $20. Select the quantity next to insurance, laptop charger, or iPad charger.  If you have any questions or need any assistance, please feel free to reach out to the technology department. 307.352.3460 Here's to a fantastic year! • 🏆 Announcing Our 2026-27 District Teacher of the Yea...

Dear Sweetwater County School District #1 Staff, Families, and Community, It is with great pride and excitement that we announce  Mrs. Caroline Smalstig , 8th Grade U.S. History teacher at Rock Springs Junior High School, as Sweetwater County School District #1's Teacher of the Year for the 2026–27 school year! Mrs. Smalstig has dedicated 7 years to education, the last 4 of which have been right here in our district. Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Wyoming and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University, she brings both academic excellence and a genuine passion for students to everything she does. What makes Mrs. Smalstig truly exceptional is her commitment to making history come alive for her students. Through innovative, student-centered learning experiences, she has: • Led student participation in the Wyoming Youth Resiliency Project through the University of Wyoming's Malcolm Wallop Civic Engagement Program, empowering students to examine and present on their own community's strengths and challenges. • Developed a 6–12 curriculum to accompany the documentary Dear Sirs, now available to teachers statewide and peer-reviewed by the National WWII Museum, connecting local Rock Springs history to broader global events. • Piloted the Reimagining and Innovating the Delivery of Education (RIDE) initiative at Rock Springs Junior High School, creating personalized, competency-based learning experiences that give students voice and choice in their education. • Presented at Wyoming TeacherCon25 at the University of Wyoming, sharing her work on teaching narratives through local WWII history. Beyond her classroom, Mrs. Smalstig serves as a mentor to student teachers, a member of the PBIS committee, a Sources of Strength adult leader, Student Council co-sponsor, and a dedicated advocate for meaningful professional development across our district. Her principal, colleagues, and students speak volumes about the culture she creates. In the words of one of her own students: "I look forward to going to your class every day. You help everyone with what they need. You also are very kind in all that you say." Mrs. Smalstig embodies the belief that learning can, and should be engaging, authentic, and joyful, all while holding students to the highest expectations. We are incredibly proud to have her represent our district. Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Caroline Smalstig, our 2026–27 Teacher of the Year! Warm regards, Sweetwater County School District #1
