Parents and Staff, I would like to provide an update on COVID related illnesses and absences in our district. As most of you know, we are seeing an increase in illnesses throughout our community and region. We have seen a variety of illnesses recently among both the students and staff in our district, including a few confirmed positive COVID cases. The majority of these cases have been at our secondary campuses. While we have seen an increase in absences related to illness, the biggest increase in these absences for students and staff are due to close contact with a positive case outside of school. We continue to follow our protocols for quarantine as advised by our state health department and the Texas Education Agency. Individuals who are confirmed positive or those who have come in close contact with a positive case are moved to remote learning for the duration of their quarantine period. Clyde CISD is monitoring this health situation closely. While we have seen an increase in illnesses and absences, our attendance rates remain relatively high averaging 94% this week . At the same time, our confirmed positive COVID rates among students and staff remain very low . The current confirmed COVID positivity rate for each campus is listed below. These percentages reflect students and/or staff from each campus who are currently out due to a confirmed positive test. Clyde Elementary 0% Clyde Intermediate 0.27% Clyde Junior High 0.52% Clyde High School 1.51% It is important for us all to continue practicing healthy habits both at school and after school hours. Clyde CISD continues to follow the protocols we set out at the beginning of the school year. This includes continuous disinfection of commonly touched surfaces and daily disinfection of each campus after hours using electromagnetic sprayers. Students and staff are encouraged to wash their hands frequently and hand sanitizer is readily available on each campus. The district requires masks or face shields for all staff. Students at our Intermediate, Junior High and High School campuses are still required to wear a face covering. Our elementary students are not required to wear a face covering; however, we are strongly encouraging parents to consider having them wear one at this time. You can read more about Clyde CISD’s COVID Health Plan on our website. We are aware of many rumors circulating regarding the possibility of a virtual only environment between the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. At this time, we plan to continue in-person learning and have no plans to close any campuses unless the health environment worsens and forces us to do so. We are however asking parents and students to help us mitigate the spread of COVID and other illnesses by keeping students home when they are sick. If your child is experiencing symptoms, please do not send them to school. By working together, we can keep everyone healthy and our schools open! Sincerely, Kenny Berry Superintendent
