  • Hitchcock ISD Board Names Dr. Darryl J. Henson Lone ...

Dear Bulldog Families, During Monday night’s Regular Meeting, the Hitchcock ISD Board of Trustees named Dr. Darryl J. Henson as the Lone Finalist for Superintendent of Schools. Since joining Hitchcock ISD on September 2, Dr. Henson has focused on strengthening stability, promoting accountability, and setting high expectations across the district. His early decisions—while not always easy—have been guided by a steady commitment to students, staff, and the long-term success of our schools. Financial Transparency and Accountability Beginning with the October Board Meeting, Dr. Henson introduced new practices to ensure families and community members have a clear view of district finances. Monthly financial reports are now presented publicly, year-to-date budgets and debt information are posted online, and a Financial Oversight Committee has been established to improve internal controls. He has also led a shift toward budgeting based on a clear plan, ensuring district funds directly support student learning. Academic and Operational Leadership Dr. Henson has evaluated staffing and organizational structures to improve efficiency and strengthen support for classrooms. This includes adding an Executive Director of Academics, a Curriculum Coordinator, and two Assistant Principals at Stewart Elementary. These additions expand instructional leadership and increase the support available to teachers and students. Board President Chad Allen shared, “Dr. Henson’s long-term vision for our district—even when it has required making publicly hard decisions—is what protects the future of Hitchcock ISD. His leadership, integrity, and commitment to excellence have already made an impact, and our Board is confident in the direction he is leading us.” State law requires a 21-day waiting period before the Board may take final action to officially hire Dr. Henson. The Board is scheduled to consider final approval during the Monday, December 15, 2025 Regular Meeting at the Hitchcock ISD Administration Building.
