April 2026 District Newsletter
Dear Families, Spring symbolizes new beginnings, and in education, it also marks the start of preparing for the end of the school year. It is an exciting time for our students and families as we celebrate progress and look ahead to what’s next. In this month’s newsletter, you will find important updates on Dover Bridge Academy (DBA), the district budget, upcoming events, district updates, and technology initiatives. Please take a moment to read through and stay informed, as the next two months will be very busy and filled with important milestones. Together, we are Dover. Together, we are strong. Go Tigers! Superintendent's Corner Dear Dover Tigers, April has come and gone, and we now find ourselves in May, an exciting and busy time across the district. Over the past month, our students and staff have had the opportunity to recharge during spring break, and since returning, our schools have been filled with meaningful learning experiences and positive energy. At Dover Middle School, our 7th-grade students participated in Day in Clay, a hands-on workshop led by Mrs. Gallagher that transformed the classroom into an engaging, field–trip–like experience. Additionally, our DMS Ambassadors prepared a great 7th Grade Orientation, demonstrating leadership and school pride. We also celebrated a very successful Bring Your Child to Work Day, where it was wonderful to welcome so many families into our schools. The excitement, smiles, and energy throughout our buildings made the day truly special. Opportunities like this strengthen the connection between home and school while helping children better understand the important work their parents and guardians do each day. I am also pleased to share that the recent Student Forum at Dover High School was a success. Approximately 30 students attended, and while participation was initially limited, students quickly became engaged and contributed meaningful feedback once key topics were introduced. Discussions focused on important areas such as cell phone expectations, communication, and school spirit initiatives, including pep rallies. By the end of the forum, students demonstrated a stronger understanding of personal electronic device procedures and the importance of staying informed through school communications. Most importantly, the conversation highlighted the power of student voice and the importance of working together to create a more positive and united Dover High School experience. It was truly encouraging to see students take ownership and express a desire to make their school even better. As we move forward, we look ahead to a very busy and exciting end of the school year. Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Go Tigers! Mr. Jaime Strengthening Instruction This year, Dover Public Schools launched the first year of our K–6 Social Studies and SEL integration plan, bringing school counselors into classrooms in a more intentional and curriculum-connected way. Through this model, counselors support students during scheduled classroom lessons that align Second Step SEL competencies with grade-level social studies units. Across the year, students have explored important skills such as listening with attention, empathy, respect for differences, problem-solving, responsible decision-making, and working cooperatively with others. These lessons are connected directly to what students are learning in social studies, including classroom communities, citizenship, geography, cultural traditions, economics, government, and early civilizations. A significant strength of this first-year rollout is that SEL is not being treated as something separate from academic instruction. Instead, students are learning how social-emotional skills help them become stronger classmates, learners, citizens, and members of the community. Whether students are role-playing community helpers, discussing different perspectives in history, building classroom maps, or working together to solve a community challenge, they are practicing skills that support both academic growth and personal development. This work reflects the district’s continued commitment to supporting the whole student. We recognize that student success is built not only through strong academics, but also through belonging, confidence, emotional well-being, and the ability to collaborate with others. As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, we also recognize the dedication of our teachers and school counselors who have helped bring this initiative to life. Their collaboration and commitment continue to create classrooms where students feel supported, connected, and prepared for success. Way to go, Dover! Stopping by Business Department Dear Dover Community, Budget and funding are the lifeline of any school district, and in recent weeks, there has been significant discussion surrounding reductions in state aid and the sharp increase in health insurance premiums, which have risen by over 29%. These challenges have required districts across the state to make difficult decisions and carefully consider how to respond. I want to reassure our community that here in Dover, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that our district continues to move forward while minimizing any negative impact on our students. Our priority has always been, and will continue to be, maintaining high-quality educational opportunities and support systems for all students. The Business Administrator’s office, in collaboration with the Superintendent’s office and with the full support of our Board of Education, has taken a thoughtful and strategic approach to managing our resources. Every decision has been made with a focus on fiscal responsibility, transparency, and protecting the programs and services that matter most to our students and families. I strongly encourage our community to review the budget presentation to gain a full understanding of the work that has gone into this process. It reflects the careful planning, collaboration, and commitment required to navigate these challenges while continuing to invest in our students’ success. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to ensure a strong future for Dover Public Schools. Facilities Update We recently had the opportunity to conduct a walkthrough of the Dover Bridge Academy, and it was truly exciting to see the progress firsthand. The building already reflects thoughtful design, with excellent spacing to support future classroom needs, along with a beautiful gymnasium and well-equipped learning spaces. Separately, at Dover High School, we are currently working on creating designated areas for students who choose to eat outside of the cafeteria. This includes the addition of beautiful wooden planter dividers to enhance both the functionality and aesthetics of the space. We are looking forward to providing tours for our future 6th-grade students and hosting a summer grand opening for the community. Please stay tuned for more information as we prepare to welcome everyone into this incredible new space! This simple routine can help ensure student devices stay in good working condition and are ready for daily learning. Take a few minutes to check that the device is charging properly, there is no visible damage, and that apps, tabs, and files are organized appropriately. These small, regular check-ins help prevent larger issues down the road and reinforce shared responsibility between home and school in caring for student technology. March 2026 District Newsletter
Dear Families, As we moved through the month of March, I am proud to share some of the incredible work happening across our district. From outstanding achievements in athletics to meaningful progress in instruction and student learning, our schools continue to demonstrate dedication, growth, and excellence. This month, you’ll also see highlights from our vibrant performing arts programs, where our students continue to showcase their talent and creativity, as well as updates on important facilities improvements that support safe and engaging learning environments. In addition, we are excited to share advancements in technology, helping to enhance teaching and learning across all grade levels. March has truly been a reflection of the hard work of our students, staff, and community. Thank you for your continued support in making Dover a place where students thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Together, we are Dover. Together, we are strong. Go Tigers! Superintendent's Corner Dear Dover Tigers, Can you believe March is already behind us and the warmer weather is finally here? Spring is in the air, and so is the energy across our schools! This month, we proudly celebrated Women’s History Month, recognizing the powerful contributions of women throughout history and within our own Dover community. Their impact continues to inspire our students to lead, persevere, and make a difference every day. We are also incredibly proud to celebrate Mrs. Hannah Olmo, who was named County Teacher of the Year, an outstanding accomplishment that reflects the excellence and dedication of our educators here in Dover. This recognition is a true testament to the impact our teachers have on students each and every day. Our stages were also alive with excitement! Dover High School’s production of Legally Blonde and the Middle School’s performance of Dr. Sooney’s Medicine were nothing short of amazing. The talent, confidence, and dedication displayed by our students truly made us #DoverProud! March was filled with momentum, achievement, and school spirit—and we’re just getting started. Thank you for your continued support, and as always… Go Tigers! Mr. Jaime Strengthening Instruction During our Cycle 3 walkthroughs, conducted from January through March 2026, the district demonstrated a profound commitment to meeting the diverse needs of every learner through intentional differentiation. Across 282 classroom snapshots in seven buildings, our educators proved that tailoring instruction is a primary driver of student success. A significant highlight from this cycle is the prevalence of targeted, in the moment teacher support. Our teachers are frequently moving throughout their rooms to provide individualized conferencing and small group instruction based on real time student readiness. Additionally, in the majority of our classrooms, students were observed actively using accessibility tools, including visual anchor charts, manipulatives, and technology, to bridge the gap between foundational understanding and complex concepts. Crucially, the data reveals that these supportive strategies are successfully elevating instructional rigor. When teachers provided multiple entry points to the same standard or adjusted tasks based on readiness, these lessons were frequently observed reaching the highest tiers of cognitive demand, such as analyzing, evaluating, and creating. This intersection of support and challenge was particularly evident in our fine arts, social studies, and ELA programs, where students synthesized their learning through original projects, debates, and collaborative research. By fostering a culture of equitable student participation, our staff is ensuring that every child, including our multilingual and special education learners, has an active voice in their own education. We celebrate the dedication of our teachers who continue to design inclusive, high expectations environments that prepare all Dover students for success. Way to go, Dover! Stopping by the CST Department CST Department Highlights The Dover Public Schools Special Services Department is excited to continue growing and strengthening language arts instruction to help all students become confident readers and writers. This year, we’ve been expanding the ways teachers support literacy so every student has access to engaging, high-quality instruction. Teachers have been learning and using Orton-Gillingham–based practices, a hands-on and interactive approach that helps students understand how sounds and letters work together. Through visual, auditory, and movement-based activities, students build strong reading and spelling skills in a way that is both structured and engaging. Classrooms are also increasing the use of direct phonics instruction in a kinesthetic way that helps students unlock words by recognizing patterns and sound combinations. In addition, students are participating in guided reading groups, where reading truly comes to life. In these small groups, students read, discuss, and explore stories together—focusing on characters, settings, and key ideas. In some of our special education classrooms, these groups are as small as two students working directly with a teacher. This allows for highly personalized instruction, immediate feedback, and meaningful opportunities for each student to participate, build confidence, and grow as a reader. Alongside reading, students are also developing their writing skills in meaningful and supportive ways. From writing simple sentences to expanding their ideas into stories and responses, students are learning how to express their thoughts clearly and confidently. Writing activities are often connected to what students are reading, helping them deepen their understanding while building communication skills that are essential across all subjects. Our Special Services team is dedicated to giving teachers the tools and support they need to meet the diverse needs of all learners. By combining research-based strategies with engaging instruction, we are creating environments where students not only learn to read and write, but they truly enjoy it. Looking ahead to next year, we plan to continue building on our strong language arts work while expanding our focus to include math instruction. We are excited to grow our practices, strengthen our positive impact on learning, and continue providing students with engaging, high-quality educational experiences. We look forward to supporting our students in reaching their full potential and to provide the most solid education possible. A device that is working properly helps students focus on the assessment without unnecessary interruptions. Please check your child’s device for any issues such as: Cracked or damaged screens Keys that are missing or not working Devices that will not hold a charge Problems connecting to Wi-Fi Any other performance concerns If your child is experiencing any issues with their device, please have them report the problem as soon as possible so it can be resolved before testing begins. Grades 3–8: Students should inform their teacher, who will submit a help desk ticket. High School: Students should report directly to the Technology Office for assistance. Addressing device concerns early helps ensure all students are fully prepared for testing. Thank you for your support in helping us keep student technology running smoothly.
