December District Newsletter
December 2025 Dear Families, Please enjoy the 4th edition of our District Newsletter. While December is a shorter month, our amazing staff has not slowed down, continuing to teach, lead, create, and inspire throughout the month. We invite you to enjoy this edition as we highlight the outstanding work and experiences taking place across our schools. Together, we are Dover. Together, we are strong. Go Tigers! In this issue: Superintendent's Corner Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy Hanukkah! During this special time of year, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to our families, students, and staff for a joyful and restful holiday season. This is a time to reflect, recharge, and appreciate the moments that matter most. I often ask myself what I am most looking forward to, and for me, it is spending quality time with my family, wife, Crystie, and our children, Elias, Ethan, and Emma. The holidays provide a meaningful pause to laugh, talk, and create lasting memories together. In our busy day-to-day lives, it is easy to get caught up in the constant routine. I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to disconnect from emails, social media, and technology, and to be fully present with friends, family, and loved ones. As we look ahead to the New Year, I am excited for the opportunities, growth, and continued success that await our students and school community. Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Wishing you a safe, healthy, and happy New Year! I will see you next year! Mr. Jaime Strengthening Instructional Alignment Across Elementary Schools All elementary administrators and district administrators visited Mrs. Pecillo’s kindergarten classroom and Mrs. Bajrushi’s 5th-grade ELA classroom to observe whole-group and small-group instruction. During the visits, they discussed effective practices related to Balanced Literacy, highlighting strong teacher instruction and high levels of student engagement. This practice allowed the administration to see instructional strategies in action, align expectations across buildings, and identify practices that support student learning. The experience also provided valuable opportunities for collaboration and professional dialogue among administrators, strengthening instructional coherence and shared understanding across the district. The district recently held Honor Roll Assemblies to celebrate student achievement across all grade levels. Elementary schools recognized their 6th-grade students for earning Honor Roll status, while Dover Middle School highlighted the accomplishments of its 7th- and 8th-grade students. At Dover High School, families were invited to attend and acknowledge their students’ hard work and success. Each assembly was filled with proud families, supportive staff, and enthusiastic students cheering as honorees were recognized. These celebrations reflect a shared commitment to academic excellence and underscore the importance of recognizing student effort and achievement, making them a truly proud moment to highlight across the district. Way to go students!! Dover Middle School 8th-grade students recently participated in an enriching field trip to the Students 2 Science facility in Whippany, accompanied by Mrs. Carroll and Mr. Kosensky. During the visit, students engaged in hands-on, practical experiments that challenged them to solve complex problems using scientific reasoning and collaboration. In addition to the lab work, students explored a wide range of STEM careers, helping them make real-world connections between their classroom learning and future opportunities. This experience was made possible through an informal grant process, allowing one class to attend this year, with plans for the class to return again. Students will also participate in eight virtual labs to extend their learning beyond the visit. The program has generated strong interest and excitement, and there are plans to expand the opportunity to more students next year, further strengthening STEM exposure and engagement across the district. Stopping by the Preforming Arts Department Our goal is to provide opportunities for all Dover students to actively participate in the arts, while gaining a deeper understanding of humanity and experiencing the joy that creative expression brings. The fall was a busy time for the Fine and Performing Arts Department! Our Marching Tigers, led by Mr. Daniel Vazquez, completed another successful season, improving their performance level compared to last year’s score at every festival! On Oct. 15th, we held our District Hispanic Heritage Festival, hosted by DHS! It was a wonderful celebration of Hispanic art, food, music, and dance! Anastasio, grade 6: 2nd place, grades 6-8 Our fall play this year was a unique treat! “Murder on the Menu” was an interactive murder mystery dinner theatre experience held on Nov. 21 and 22. The show was directed by DHS theatre teacher, Ms. Lisa Kelly, and stage-managed by DHS dance teacher, Mrs. Hannah Olmo. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner of Chicken Francese prepared by our cafeteria company, Pomptonian. Anticipated Inclement Weather 12/23/2025
Dear Tigers, I am writing to inform you about anticipated inclement weather on Tuesday , December 23. As a reminder, tomorrow is a scheduled single-session day. Due to the abbreviated schedule, our only options are to open on a regular schedule or close the school entirely. A delayed opening is not possible on a single-session day. According to the latest forecast from our meteorological service, a fast-moving winter system is expected to bring snow to our area between approximately 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., with moderate snowfall rates during the morning commute. Current projections indicate 1–3 inches of accumulation, with snowfall tapering off between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Cold pavement temperatures, combined with the timing of the snowfall, may create hazardous road conditions, particularly during morning commutes. Please note that a final decision regarding school closure will be made early in the morning after evaluating real-time weather conditions, road treatment, and overall safety. If a school closure is necessary, families will be notified through: The district website Email Social media Automated phone call Thank you for your continued partnership and understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff. Warm regards, Luis A. Jaime

November District Newsletter
November 2025 Dear Families, I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones. As we reflect on the month of November, I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude—not only for my family, but also for the privilege of serving our incredible Dover community. Each day, I am reminded how fortunate I am to work alongside dedicated educators, supportive families, and extraordinary students. Dover has truly become a second family to me, and I am thankful for the trust, collaboration, and shared commitment that drive our district forward. Together, we are Dover. Together, we are strong. Go Tigers! In this issue: Superintendent's Corner This past month showcased the very best of who we are—innovators, learners, and compassionate partners in education. From district-wide professional development and meaningful parent-teacher conferences to classrooms filled with curiosity and schools buzzing with community engagement, November highlighted the strength and unity that define our district. It is during moments like these that we see just how powerfully our collective efforts shape the student experience. As we enter December, I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on what you were grateful for this season. Gratitude strengthens our connections, grounds us in purpose, and reminds us why we do the work we do. For me, I am grateful for each of you—for your dedication, your support, and your belief in our mission. Thank you for being part of the Dover family. Wishing everyone a joyful, productive, and successful month ahead. Go Tigers! Mr. Jaime ED Camp We kicked off the month with our traditional Ed Camp–style professional development, where teachers and district leaders joined together to lead and participate in workshops aligned with curriculum, best practices, and social-emotional learning. This model truly reflects the valuable expertise we have within our staff—and how we continually pay it forward to one another. On November 4, 2025, our district hosted a highly successful Dover Ed Camp, providing a full day of professional learning for teachers, administrators, and support staff across all schools. With over 30 interactive workshops, it was a powerful demonstration of teamwork, shared leadership, and dedication to student success. Highlights of the Day Diverse Professional Offerings Educators engaged in sessions on: Trauma-informed practices Dual language and bilingual strategies Social-emotional learning and character development Culturally responsive teaching Technology integration across content areas District-Wide Collaboration Staff from every school gathered at Dover High School to learn together, while specialized training for preschool teams, ABA teachers, nurses, and secretaries occurred at designated sites to meet the unique needs of each role. Stopping by the Math Department In the Dover Mathematics Department, our goal is to place students at the center of instruction. This means prioritizing opportunities for students to explain their reasoning, think critically, and actively engage with mathematical ideas. Across all levels, our math classrooms incorporate cooperative learning in small groups, hands-on manipulatives, visual representations, and intentional language development. Math in Dover is not a passive experience—it is an active, thinking-centered class where students problem-solve, collaborate, and take ownership of their learning. During our opening days of professional development, teachers deepened their work with Building Thinking Classrooms—a framework that structures math learning so students think, collaborate effectively, and engage in high-level problem-solving through visual and interactive mathematics. Teachers also received targeted training on our curricular materials to ensure we are fully leveraging all available tools. In the coming weeks, our Basic Skills Math teachers across the district will also take part in Orton-Gillingham Math training to further strengthen the supports we provide to students. At our most recent professional development day, several district math teachers stepped into leadership roles, presenting sessions on planning lessons involving games, using technology such as Freeform, and fostering inclusive classroom environments. Our Math Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, has also been active at DHS, providing peer tutoring and organizing a bracelet fundraiser. Their commitment to supporting the school community is something we are incredibly proud of. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to building strong mathematical thinkers and creating learning experiences that empower every Dover student to succeed. Ms. Shah PBIS Staff Rock, Paper, Scissors Showdown The PBIS/Character Team brought fun and friendly competition to the building with a schoolwide Rock, Paper, Scissors Staff Challenge. Each staff member started the day with an orange bead and could challenge colleagues at any time—best two out of three. If you lost, your beads were gone and you were out of the running! By the end of the day, only four staff members remained. In a surprise announcement, students were invited to the gym to watch the exciting final round unfold on stage. The champion earned bragging rights, a giant paw-print necklace, and a $15 Starbucks gift card. It was a spirited event that built community, boosted morale, and modeled the joy of positive school culture. Mini Misfits Assembly Students also enjoyed a powerful assembly presented by the Playground Theatre Project’s Mini Misfits, a youth-driven outreach program created for kids, by kids. Drawing directly from student experiences, the performers developed an engaging, interactive anti-bullying presentation that addressed what is truly happening in schools today. Their creativity and insight sparked meaningful conversations and encouraged students to promote kindness, empathy, and respect throughout the school community. Dover High School Marking Period 1 Academic Awards Ceremony Dover High School proudly hosted its Marking Period 1 Academic Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, November 26th at 8:00 a.m. in the DHS Auditorium. This special event, organized by the Leadership Team and the PBIS Committee, celebrated more than 250 students who earned Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, or received a “Catch a Tiger” nomination for being caught demonstrating R.A.R.E. behaviors—Respectful, Accountable, Resilient, and Engaged. The ceremony was a tremendous success and a powerful reflection of our school community’s support. We were thrilled to welcome over 300 parents and family members, who filled the auditorium with pride, applause, and encouragement. Their presence made the celebration even more meaningful for our students. In addition to recognizing outstanding student achievement, the ceremony also highlighted the contributions of the adults who help make DHS an exceptional learning environment. Administrators and PBIS leaders took time to acknowledge custodians, security guards, CST members, counselors, and staff, honoring the essential roles they play in supporting students each day. It was a true team effort that demonstrated the strength, unity, and commitment of the Dover High School community. North Dover Elementary Celebrates National STEAM Day North Dover Elementary proudly celebrated National STEAM Day on November 14, giving every student the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning across Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. The day was filled with creativity, problem-solving, and exploration as students tackled age-appropriate design challenges from Kindergarten through Grade 6. Kindergarten students built scarecrows, engineered standing field goals, and designed turkey traps—applying creativity and early engineering skills. First Grade created turkey hideouts using building materials while learning about stability and structure. Second Grade assembled 3-D pumpkins, practicing careful sequencing and spatial reasoning. Third Grade explored engineering tasks such as robotic hands, marble mazes, and fast-paced paper construction challenges. Fourth Grade collaborated on the classic “Save Fred” STEM activity, strengthening teamwork and critical thinking. Fifth Grade launched balloon rockets, tested paper airplanes, built ramps, engineered spaghetti-marshmallow towers, and experimented with buoyancy using cranberry rafts. Sixth Grade investigated structural engineering by building toothpick-and–play dough towers, discovering how height affects stability. STEAM Day was a powerful reminder of the joy of inquiry and the importance of hands-on learning. Our students showcased curiosity, collaboration, and perseverance—core skills that fuel future innovators.
