Giving Tuesday - Support Washington Primary's Playgr...
Give the Gift of Play! Support the Washington Primary Playground Washington Primary Renovation & Expansion Washington Primary School is undergoing an exciting renovation that will expand the building to serve Pre-K through 2nd grade by August 2027. This project includes a new kindergarten wing and updates to the existing school. As part of this work, we are seeking community support to move, expand, and enhance the school playground for our growing student population. Why Play Matters A revitalized playground will offer safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate spaces where children can play, explore, and learn together. Planned improvements include updated play equipment, expanded play areas, and improved accessibility to support the physical, social, and imaginative development of all students. Project Timeline Fundraising will take place over the next year, with the goal of ordering new equipment in fall 2026 and installing it during spring/summer 2027âjust in time for the 2027â2028 school year. What We Need Several current playground structures will be relocated to the new site. Additional equipment is needed to support our expanded grade levels, including 2nd grade students who will join Washington Primary beginning in the 2027â2028 school year. We have identified a selection of playground pieces and themed play elements that we hope to purchase through a combination of community contributions and grant funding. How You Can Help We invite families, alumni, local businesses, and community members to partner with us in this effort. Your donationâbig or smallâbrings us one step closer to creating a playground that reflects the joy, growth, and bright future of Washington Primary. GIVE TODAY! Contact Us If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. Tori Peterson Communications Coordinator Washington Community Schools 812) 254-5536 ext. 1018

Hatchet Happenings - October 2025 đđđť
Students Time Travel to their Future Career Kids at Hope Destinations Kids at Hope "destinations" are the four key areas of life where children are encouraged to set goals and visualize their future: Home & Family, Hobbies & Recreation, Community & Service, and Education & Career. The "Kids at Hope" philosophy is a cultural strategy centered on the belief that all children are capable of success, no exceptions. This nine weeks the focus is on Education & Career. We want to thank our community for supporting our elementary students with real world experiences. Career Day at Washington Intermediate Touch a Truck at Washington Primary Washington Primary and WHS Students Partner to Create Lighted Christmas Displays A festive new partnership between Washington Primary and Washington High School is bringing a creative idea to life this holiday season! With the guidance and collaboration of Kim Conder and Matt Riney, kindergarten students have been drawing cheerful Christmas scenes, which high school students are now transforming into large lighted displays for Eastside Park this holiday season. The high school class has finished building the display frames, outlining each design with addressable LED lightsâa challenging but exciting process that involves individually programming each of the 300 bulbs using a microcontroller. The project is funded through the SCALE Kâ12 grant, with support from Kip Kelley and the Washington Parks Department, who will showcase the finished displays at the park this season. This collaboration is a shining example of creativity, teamwork, and community spirit across grade levels! Celebrating the Impact of Hope Bags and Community Partnership Last spring, WCS school social workers joined a meeting at Connections to explore ways to better support students in needâparticularly in the area of school supplies. From that collaboration, the Hope Bags initiative was born. Through the combined efforts of dedicated volunteers and community partners, Hope Bags provided essential school supplies to approximately 650 students across WCS open houses and during the first few weeks of the new school yearâan incredible accomplishment that made a meaningful difference for so many families. The effort doesnât stop once the school year begins. As new students enroll throughout the year, Hope Bags remain stocked and ready, ensuring that every child has access to the supplies they need to feel welcomed and prepared from their first day forward. This initiative would not have been possible without the heart, time, and dedication of seven remarkable individuals: Jamie Williams â Bethany Church (adopted Washington Primary) Jeremy Adams â Youth First Erin Detweiler â New Hope Church (adopted Washington Intermediate) Adam Conder â Free Methodist Church (adopted Washington Upper) Sherry Davis and Vicki Murello â Connections Kerri Dalton â Bethel Church of Washington (adopted Veale, WHS, and WJHS) Christe Newkirk â WCS Social Worker Special thanks also goes to: Bethel Church of Washington, Bethany Christian Church, Central Christian Church, Christ United Methodist, Daviess County Connections, Free Methodist Church, Harvest Community Church, Mt. Olivet Church, New Hope Washington, Pleasant Hill United Methodist, Washington Rotary Club, Youth First. Because of their effortsâand the continued generosity of our communityâstudents are receiving more than school supplies. They are receiving hope, encouragement, and a warm welcome into Washington Community Schools. Exploring Computer Science and Microelectronics Students in Mrs. Dillonâs computer science classes at Washington Junior High are diving into the world of coding and hands-on technology projects. One of the newest additions this semester is Microelectronics, a unit that has quickly become a student favorite. Through these projects, students are learning how technology works on a smaller scale while gaining valuable skills that can lead to future opportunities in various STEM fields. Mrs. Dillonâs class focuses on providing students with experiences that go beyond the textbook. By exploring interactive and collaborative projects, students develop problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork skillsâall while applying what they learn to real-world situations. These lessons are designed to help students look ahead to their futures, encouraging them to think about the many career paths and possibilities that await them beyond high school. We just wrapped up our first training session, where teachers had a blast building and coding LEGO creations to perform different functions. They also explored how to connect LEGO Education's curriculum to academic standards for implementation in their classroom. This grant also provides funding for us to purchase more LEGO kits for our classrooms.
