News Release - School Report Card
Breathitt County Schools Graduates Prepared for College, Career, and Community News Release - School Report Card Wednesday 11.19.2025 Setting “high expectations” for student achievement is one key way we, as Breathitt County Schools, reach our vision of “Graduates Prepared for College, Career, and Community.” With the COVID-19 pandemic behind us, and the long-term recovery of the historic flood ever-present in our community, we share recent testing data that can serve as a baseline for future student achievement. Please note that our first step in meeting the district’s vision is “Putting students first in all decision making.” To say that we have been proud of our staff and students over the past three years is an understatement. More now than ever, we see as a community that schools are not a mere means to collect student data. Schools have served, and will continue to serve, as safe spaces where students can reflect while having mental, social, physical, and emotional needs addressed. We encourage the community to reflect on the “Bright Spots” below and know that this data will serve us well as we continue to meet the instructional needs of students. We will need to use this data to identify targeted areas of support to maximize learning for all students. Please remember that test scores are just one strategy to better understand how students performed academically during learning disruptions caused by floods and Covid-19. Moving forward, there will be no quick fix for student learning and outcomes. However, working together we can not only help our community heal, but also help bridge gaps and reach our goals of high expectations and student achievement. Bright Spots: Highland-Turner Elementary had an overall score of 96.5 (Blue). Breathitt County High School had an overall score of 72.2 (Green). Breathitt County Middle School had an overall score of 70.8 (Green). High School Reading & Math Change Level increased by 10.4 points. High School Science, Social Studies, and Combined Writing increased by 8.6 points. Middle School Reading & Math Change Level increased by 12.3 points. Highland-Turner Elementary increased 4.7 in Science, Social Studies, and Writing. Highland-Turner Elementary increased 1.8 in Reading and Math. Sebastian Elementary increased 3.1 in Reading and Math. Quality of School Climate and Safety Indicator score for elementary schools was 81.5 (Blue). Breathitt High - Graduation rate was 95.8 this year, which was an increase of 1.4 (Blue) Breathitt High - Post secondary readiness was 98.2, which was an increase of 2.1(Green) Middle School Quality & Climate Survey index increased by 3.0 points. Focus Areas for Improvement: Strengthen our progress monitoring of students so that we are providing appropriate and focused instructional interventions to support our students at all grade levels. These data sets, along with district benchmark and progress monitoring data, will be used to determine the next steps for support for student learning. Working to improve the transition from elementary to high school for students. Continuation of collaboration amongst all grade level teachers to ensure continued improvement in student academic performance and achievement. Please click the link for the School Report Card.
