Submit a Nomination Parent Notification Notification - Supplemental Curriculum, Vamos, for Patterson Elementary Parents, community members, and stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on the proposed Exploratory Spanish supplemental curriculum, Vamos, under review for Grades 3-6 at Patterson Elementary as part of the IB PYP Programme. Building on students’ shared exposure to Calico, this curriculum aims to support aligned instruction and skill development in upper elementary. The review process includes both online and paper access to materials, with guidance available through Patterson Elementary’s front office. K-8: Away for the Day Once the first bell rings and the school day begins Cell phones and smart watches must be turned off or set to silent and stored out of sight (for example, in a backpack) during the whole school day, unless instructed otherwise by a staff member. Cell phones can only be used during class when permitted by a teacher or staff member for educational purposes. 9-12: No Cell Bell to Bell Before School and During Lunch Break: Students can use their cell phones in designated areas such as the cafeteria and common areas. During Passing Periods: Students can use their cell phones to quickly check messages between classes. This summer, teachers and staff from both schools traveled to Florida to share their strategies for supporting students, working together, and strengthening school culture with more than 5,000 educators from around the world. Meet the Principals Governing Board Updates End of An Era: June 23rd Governing Board Meeting “The culture of this district is relationships,” commented Dr. McCord. “We can have goals, we can have strategies, and we can have excellent test scores, and we can have missions, but none of that matters if we don’t have a heart.” As Dr. McCord retired at the end of the school year, the meeting solidified the district’s transition plans. This is a particularly special time for me as I prepare for my retirement and reflect on what makes GPS a truly wonderful place to learn, work, and thrive. Please never underestimate the value that you bring to our district, our schools, and your child’s education as a member of our GPS family. The involvement of our parents and families makes our campuses stronger, and we truly appreciate you. Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do to support our schools and district this year. We could not do our very best for kids without your support! This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and today is School Nurse and Health Assistant Day! Thank you for joining us in celebrating and thanking our incredible teachers, nurses, and health assistants for everything they do daily. We are stronger because of all of them, and the partnership between our educators and our families is so important for the success of our students! Coming up next week is ‘Pave the Path’ in our elementary schools, and I would like to thank our Preschool and Kindergarten teams, who are supporting over 800 preschool students to spend time inside a Kindergarten classroom doing activities with Kindergarten teachers and students, to support them and their families, in their move to Kindergarten next year. Connect, Create, Care GPS Family Newsletter February 18, 2026 Message from the Superintendent Dear GPS Parents and Families, We are very close to Spring Break, and I thank you for supporting our students in finishing this third quarter strong. February is CTE month, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our CTE teachers for all they do! Please take a look at the CTE blog below, which highlights just a few of the incredible CTE courses offered across our district. I also invite you to visit gilbertschools.net/cte to learn more. Don’t forget our ‘Run for Fun’ is this upcoming Saturday morning at Campo Verde High, February 21st. Registration closes Feb 20th, so if you haven’t registered yet, there is still time to join us to run or walk a 5K or 1 mile with the whole family, and you can join your school’s team! After the run, we will be gathering with our families and community for a fun morning at our GPS Community Fiesta. There will be lots to do for the whole family with food trucks and fun activities. Race activities begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Campo Verde High running track, with participants able to run or walk either the 5K or 1-mile course. All registered runners receive a custom event Dri-Fit T-shirt, a finisher’s medal, access to hydration stations, and real-time race results. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each age group for 5K participants. Team registrations are also available, encouraging schools, families, and community groups to participate together. GPS Community Fiesta & Mascot Race After the 5k and 1-mile walk/run, the GPS Community Fiesta will transform Campo Verde High School into a hub of family fun and school pride.
