September is Attendance Awareness Month!

San Ramon Valley Unified School District Alamo  •  Danville  •  Diablo  •  San Ramon Communications & Community Relations   August 31, 2026 Dear Parents/Caregivers, SRVUSD believes that school attendance is essential for student success. When students attend school regularly, they have the opportunity to learn new concepts, develop their skills, and build relationships with their classmates and teachers. We understand there are many reasons why students may miss school. Communication regarding your child’s absence or tardiness is still essential.  Excused/Unexcused absences:   SRVUSD  Administrative Regulation (AR) 5113  includes detailed information about excused and unexcused absences. Under district policy AR 5113, if a student shows a pattern of chronic absenteeism due to illness, district staff may require physician verification of any further student absences. Health-related appointments:  We encourage you to schedule appointments and other activities outside of school hours whenever possible to minimize disruptions to your child’s educational experience.  If an appointment must be made on a school day, try to schedule it at the beginning or end of the school day so that your child can attend at least part of the day and not miss an entire day of learning.  If your child experiences an ongoing health issue that may impact their attendance, please contact the school nurse or counselor for additional support. We know that last year had a particularly challenging cold and flu season.  As a reminder, here is a link to the district's   Illness Guidelines .  If your child is well enough to attend school and meaningfully participate in learning activities, we would love to have them join us at school!  If they are too ill to attend, please keep them home until they are feeling well enough to return.  Your school team will gladly accept any documentation you provide them if your child is seen by a doctor in person or through a virtual visit during their illness. Please try to avoid scheduling travel when school is in session.  If travel is unavoidable, let your school office know as soon as possible.  The school team may explore with you whether a  short-term independent study contract  might be appropriate to help keep your student from falling behind their peers and return ready to jump back into their classes. You may have heard a lot of discussion about school funding and budgets over the last few years, and daily school attendance is a big part of how school districts in California are funded.  When a student is absent from school, the district does not receive funding, regardless of the reason for the absence.  Early dismissal:  If your child needs to leave school early, please notify the school attendance office by phone or a written/emailed note and include a brief explanation of the reason for the early dismissal. This will help us keep track of student attendance and ensure their safety. Late arrival:  If your child will be arriving late to school, please notify the school attendance office in advance by phone or written note and include a brief explanation of the reason for the late arrival. Our teachers, administrators, and support staff strive to facilitate an effective and meaningful partnership between families and our educational community. If your child is experiencing challenges that impact school attendance, please contact their counselor, teacher, or administrator. If you have any questions, please contact your school’s main office. SRVUSD Seeks Parcel Tax Oversight Committee Members

SCHOOL DISTRICT SEEKS PARCEL TAX OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE MEMBERS:   The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is seeking members for its Parcel Tax Oversight Committee (PTOC).   The committee provides oversight for the Board of Education to ensure that the funds are spent as intended by the voters of the parcel tax.  The committee will meet at least twice per year and report on an annual basis to the Board and community on how these funds have been spent.  All meetings are open to the public.  Six members and one alternate will be appointed by the school board for a two-year term.  They will not be compensated and will serve no more than two consecutive terms.  Members shall reside within the boundaries of the SRVUSD and shall be registered voters. Applications are due no later than 3:00 p.m. September 11, 2026. August 12, 2026 Dear Community, As we open our doors for the 2026-2027 school year, I am filled with warmth, gratitude, and genuine excitement for everything we will accomplish together. A new school year brings a fresh beginning, and there is nothing quite like the energy on our campuses as classrooms come back to life with the laughter, curiosity, and smiles of our students. I hope to see many of you on our first day of school, August 13th.  We have so much to celebrate across our District. Last year demonstrated what happens when our community works hand-in-hand to support our students. Across SRVUSD, we celebrated notable increases in student academic achievement in both ELA (English Language Art) and Math. 81% of our students who took the CAASSP test for Math met or exceeded the standard for proficiency. 75% of our students who took the CAASSP test for ELA met or exceeded the standard for proficiency. Both of these marks are increases from the two prior years. 4,497 students took 10,633 AP (Advanced Placement) tests this spring, and 92% of those tests received a score of 3 or higher, again an increase from last year. We also proudly recognized seven of our schools as California Distinguished Schools, representing the highest number of honorees for any single school district in the entire Bay Area. Even more inspiring is what our survey data tells us about student wellness. Recent data confirmed a clear rise in school connectedness and a steady decrease in chronic sadness for students across our schools. This progress shows that our focus on the whole child is working, ensuring students feel safe, supported, and connected at school. None of these achievements would be possible without the remarkable work of our talented staff and hardworking students. Another huge reason for our continued success is the partnership of our families and volunteers. Last year alone, our dedicated PTA members and community volunteers contributed an extraordinary 56,275 volunteer hours across our school sites. That gift of time, care, and energy builds the essential bridge between home and school, enriching the daily experience of every child in our care. Additionally, the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation has donated incredible amounts of money to District programs, teacher grants, and program development, and those efforts are paired with the generosity of our site-based Ed Funds. This builds a foundation of strength most school districts and communities can’t imagine.  As we begin the 2026-2027 school year, our core commitment remains focused on giving our students strong roots to ground them and wings to soar high. When we work together with open communication, kindness, and shared dedication, wonderful things take place for our kids. I am deeply honored to serve alongside our exceptional staff, supportive families, and wonderful community. Walk or run with friends, family, neighbors, teammates, and colleagues in support of our schools. Come for The Run and stay for the fun: enjoy our kids’ zone, inflatable games, face painting, exhibitor booths, and more! The Run for Education is a beloved community tradition in the San Ramon Valley spanning more than 40 years. By participating, you are helping fund grants and innovative programs across our 35 SRVUSD schools. The Run for Education is the largest run that supports education in Northern California. Register now!   Run for Ed Spirit Day: September 3 Calling all students! Wear your medals! Dress in running attire! The school with the most spirit will once again receive a coveted VIP tent at the Run for Education, recognition on the District website and social media, and a special school shout-out at the RFE. Show your spirit, support the Run, and have some fun!   E-Bikes and E-Scooters We are asking for your help to keep all students safe! Be informed about the age restrictions and the laws that govern these devices. Riders must be 16 years old to operate an e-bike that can travel over 20 mph Riders must be 16 years old to ride any e-scooter (driver license also required) E-scooters are not allowed on elementary and middle school campuses (due to age and licensing requirements) E-bikes and e-scooters can no longer be ridden in Danville parks (riders must dismount and walk their devices) Helmets are required for anyone under 18   Diablo Road Construction - Expect Delays The Town of Danville has informed us that construction is underway on the Diablo Road Multi-Use Trail project that will involve daytime traffic control on Diablo Road between Fairway Drive and Alameda Diablo. Between the hours of 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, one of the two travel lanes on Diablo Road will be closed, reducing traffic to a single alternating lane. If you use that route to school, please allow extra time for drop off and pick up!   SRVUSD State Preschool Program - Space Available Did you know that SRVUSD hosts a State preschool program open to 3 or 4 year olds at no cost for eligible families? The program runs 5 afternoons a week.
