2022-23 ESSA Plan Accountability Addendum, Public Co...
Dear Colleagues: The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is accepting public comment on a plan addendum to New York State’s Approved Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan related to restarting the accountability system for the 2021-22 school year. NYSED is accepting public comment starting through 5:00 PM EST on Friday, August 5, 2022. The public comment form can be found on the NYSED School and District Accountability webpage . The United States Department of Education (USDE) is allowing States to modify accountability indicators and processes, provided those changes are consistent with the requirements of Section 1111 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) under ESSA. Based on statutory requirements and guidance from USDE, NYSED has consulted with assessment and accountability experts, educational leaders from other state education agencies, and stakeholders. NYSED staff have also performed extensive modeling to develop the ESSA Accountability State Plan Addendum to submit for USDE approval. The plan addendum includes proposed modification to New York’s accountability indicators, revisions to the methodology for determining accountability identifications, and modification of exit criteria for identified schools as part of NYSED’s efforts to restart the accountability system in the 2022-23 school year using data from the 2021-22 school year. To help inform public comment responses, NYSED has prepared a webinar, “Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Accountability State Plan Addendum for the 2022-23 School Year” available on the NYSED School and District Accountability webpage . The webinar provides an overview of how NYSED will use 2021–22 school year results to make accountability determinations as required by ESSA. Sincerely, Office of Accountability
