  • Washington County School District Weather Update

    Families and staff, Out of care for our students, employees, and families, Washington County School District will dismiss at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8. Schools will be closed on Friday, October 9, due to forecasted weather conditions. A shelter will open at WAVE at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, at 934 Tiger Loop, Chipley, Florida 32428. This early release gives families time to get home, make plans, and shelter in place. Student and staff safety is always our top priority. Please stay safe. More information will continue to be shared through ParentSquare and our social media. Thank you for your understanding.

If you live on a dirt road, the bus will still meet students at the end of the road. This applies to both the morning and afternoon routes. Absence and tardy notices will now come from ParentSquare by email, text, or app notification, based on your ParentSquare settings.  Excuse notes should still be sent to the attendance secretary as usual.     Buses will run on paved and milled roads only on Monday, Oct. 5, due to potentially hazardous road conditions. If you live on a dirt road, the bus will still come to the end of the road. This is in effect for the morning and afternoon routes. Road conditions will be reassessed tomorrow, and a decision about Tuesday will be posted on ParentSquare.

    We would like to make you all aware that School Messenger is no longer being used for attendance notifications. ParentSquare will soon begin sending absence and tardy notifications to parents and/or guardians.  Parents will receive these notifications using the notification method they have selected in their ParentSquare settings (such as email, text message, or app notification).  Current procedures of absence and/or tardy excuse notes being sent to the attendance secretaries will remain the same.

    Washington County School District is pleased to announce  Milo Baker as Vernon Elementary School’s Lucky Tray Grand Prize Winner! 🏆👏 Southwest Foodservice Excellence’s (SFE)  Lucky Tray Day brings extra excitement to lunchtime! Students who discover a special winning mark or sticker underneath their lunch tray receive a prize from their school’s cafeteria team. ✨ Throughout September, students across our district enjoyed surprises such as small toys, stickers, and other treats. One lucky student at each school receives a grand prize selected especially for them, based on their age and personal preferences! 🎁 This fun promotion encourages school meal participation and helps make our cafeterias welcoming, engaging places for students. That commitment showed again as school staff completed Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training. CPI’s evidence-based de-escalation training gives educators and support staff the skills and confidence to recognize challenging behavior early and respond before a situation escalates. That means fewer disruptions, more time for teaching, and stronger protection for students and staff. Student safety and staff safety go hand in hand. When our team is trained, prepared, and supported, classrooms stay calmer, relationships stay stronger, and students have a better chance to thrive. Washington County School District continues to invest in professional learning that puts people first and keeps our schools focused on what matters most: learning in a safe, caring environment. Thank you to the staff members who completed this training and to our families for partnering with us as we work every day to make Washington County Schools a place where students and staff are protected, valued, and set up for success.
