Our entire team is looking forward to our annual Back to School Night tomorrow evening. Please remember… Back to School Night Reminders (9/10, 5:30pm-7pm): This event is an adult only evening where you have the opportunity to meet your child's teacher and learn about the year ahead. We will meet at 5:30pm in the multi-purpose room (near main gate) for important introductions and my principal message followed by classroom presentations at 6pm. We anticipate a full house and thank you in advance for keeping it quiet in the alcove if there is standing room only.  We will see you there! Principal Chat  -  Open to All  (9/23 at 8:30am): In case you want more of what Back to School Night has to offer, I will host the first of my optional Principal Chats on Wednesday, September, 23rd. This is an unstructured, casual opportunity to share a cup of coffee and touch base or ask any of your burning questions about all things Reed, teaching and learning. We will gather outside the main gate at the circle benches and coffee will be provided. Note that these chats are agenda free and different from the more formal Grade Level talks that will be hosted by our school psychologist, Dr. Van Putten, later in the Fall.  Buses and Carline - thank you for your patience! As we “roll” into our third week of school, I want to thank all Reed families for their incredible patience as we improve in our ability to buckle and unbuckle, board and deboard both buses and cars. A school of 400 little ones takes a bit longer to learn and perfect all the physical skills necessary for a smooth bus and carline experience and we expect wait times to decrease swiftly as the year progresses.  We look forward to welcoming caregivers this Wednesday evening! Warmly, Aubrey O’Connor & Staff     Math Curriculum Home-to-School Connections from Amy Smith, Instructional Coach: Reed is excited to launch our second year using Amplify Desmos Math!  This innovative program is fully aligned with state standards, including the California Math Framework, and is designed to build students’ conceptual understanding, reasoning, and communication skills, not just memorization or procedural practice. Parents often ask how they can best support their child’s learning at home. Here are a few simple ways to help: Ask about the thinking, not just the homework: Try questions like: ➜ “Show me one of the graphs you made today.” ➜ “What did you notice about how the numbers changed?” Encourage perseverance: Remind your child that it’s okay if a problem feels challenging, that’s how deep learning happens! Explore Amplify’s Caregiver Resources: These include unit previews, practice problems, and family-friendly explanations of key math ideas.     Reporting a Reed School Absence  All students are expected to attend school on a consistent and on-time basis. If your child is going to be tardy, absent, or leave school early for any reason, please be sure to email OR call and notify the office:   reedattendance@reedschools.org (415) 435-7840  extension #1   Please Provide the Following Information: First and last name of your child Your relationship to the child Teacher's name The reason for the absence or tardy Appointments If you need to pick your child up for an appointment, come to the front office and we will call the classroom. We do not pull children ahead of time, so allow extra time for us to find them. As a courtesy to the teacher, please email them so they know your child will be leaving early that day.

We’re excited to share some highlights, updates, and important reminders in this newsletter as we continue this journey together. Student Safety Keeping our students safe during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up is a collective effort that requires vigilance from our entire community. Please remember to slow down and drive with extra caution in and around school zones, staying alert for stopping buses that are loading or unloading children. To ensure clear visibility for everyone, double-parking is strictly prohibited in loading zones. Always yield to pedestrians, remind your children to use designated crosswalks, and take an extra moment to look carefully before pulling out or turning so we can ensure every child arrives and departs safely each day. “We are even stronger together!” Message from the Transportation / School Bus JPA - 6th Bus on September 8th We are pleased to announce that due to increased demand for the school bus program this year, the yellow bus team is adding a sixth bus effective Tuesday, September 8. This will mean that the riders below will board a different bus but at the same stop and time.  We will work through the waitlist for these routes and be in touch with interested families. It also means that the Orange PM bus from Del Mar should now run on time; please expect your students to arrive at or close to the intended time beginning next week.  The bus program also offers an aftercare route for students enrolled in Ranch programming at Bel Aire and Reed after school. Update on Committees Here is an update on each of the committees or task force groups that will gather this year. If you would like to be involved, please fill out the survey or just email Dr. McGrath at kmcgrath@reedschools.org.  Outside Campaign Group for Measure O - The first meeting took place for this outside group. Thanks to Jenni Marshall for leading, and to everyone who is diving in to help as this is not a group that RUSD is allowed to lead. Revenue Generation - The first meeting is set for September 28 from 12noon - 1:30pm.  Dr. Chris Kim will lead this group. Please let him know at ckim@reedschools.org if you have not yet signaled your interest. AI Task Force - This is Year 2 of this group. The first meeting for this school year will be held on October 21st starting at 4:00pm. Please inform Nicole Trickett at ntrickett@reedschools.org if you are interested. Tech Use Framework - We are starting by developing a deeper understanding of where things stand currently. The first task force meeting that involves the larger community will take place around November. More information to come. Strategic Planning Collaborative - The first meeting will be later in the Spring when we can evaluate how we’re doing on Year 3 implementation of our 6-year Strategic Plan. Local Control Accountability Plan - This is the 3-year state required plan. The first meeting will take place in December. Principal's Note Dear Bel Aire Families, What a wonderful start to the school year! Our first few days have been filled with excitement, smiles, and the energy that makes our school community so special. It has been wonderful to see students settling into their classrooms, reconnecting with friends, meeting new teachers, and embracing all that the new school year has to offer. We are incredibly proud of how our students have displayed BEAR Expectations as they started the new year. Thank you to our families and staff for helping make these first days so positive. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about our school goals, meet your child's teacher, and hear about the exciting year ahead. We hope you can join us for this special evening! Please remember that this is a parent/guardian-only event. No children will be allowed at this event. Thanks! Safely Traveling To & From School Bikes, eBikes and eScooters In accordance with updated town ordinances and county regulations, only traditional (non electric) bikes and Class 1 low-speed (under 20 mph) pedal-assisted eBikes will be permitted on campus. Class 2 & Class 3 eBikes, as well as eScooters are NOT permitted on campus.  There is plenty of bike parking at school. Please be sure your child LOCKS their bike even when parked at school. Please also be sure your child knows proper bike safety protocol, follows all traffic rules and wears a helmet at all times. Once on school grounds, bikes must be walked. At dismissal, students should walk their bikes down the hill and across both cross walks before riding slowly away from campus. Daily Drop-Off and Pick-Up Routines Please be sure your child understands your family’s daily drop off and pick-up routine. Always notify your student’s teacher and the office if there are any changes to your normal pickup routine. Driving We ask everyone to help us be good neighbors and keep our school community safe, respectful, and welcoming. Please follow all posted parking and pickup signs. Keep driveways, sidewalks, crosswalks, and neighborhood entrances clear. Slow down and phone down, it can save a life. Bus Procedures - Review with your child All students planning to take the bus home must have their bus pass with them each day. Students should be prepared to show their pass when boarding the bus. If a student does not have their bus pass, they may be asked to check in with the office before being allowed to board. Please remember that cell phones, electronic devices, and smartwatches may not be used while riding the bus. This helps keep everyone safe and allows students to remain attentive to their surroundings and bus drivers. To help ensure a safe and smooth dismissal: Students should know their assigned bus color and the stop they will depart at Students should only board their assigned bus (while we love when students arrange playdates they are not allowed to ride other bus lines). Students should follow our school wide BEAR expectations while on the bus. This means using a quiet voice, appropriate language, remaining buckled and seated, following all directions from staff and bus drivers and showing appreciation to our drivers! Please review these expectations with your child and help them understand how important following these expectations is for their safety. For information about RUSD bus routes and purchasing a pass, please visit the Tiburon Peninsula Traffic Alliance.  Ranch Offerings The Ranch, Belvedere Tiburon Recreation, after-school sports, enrichment, and day camp programs for Bel Aire students will begin next week, on August 31. Tutoring programs will begin the following week, September 8. Enrolled students should have received an email confirmation with class details. Please direct all enrollment and course-related questions to officeadmin@theranchtoday.org View all available programs at theranchtoday.org. Fall registration is open now. Please pay your PTA dues! At Bel Aire, your $50 per student annual PTA membership fee directly funds programs for this school year, including Fall Fiesta, the school play, staff appreciation, Field Day and 5th grade promotion. Our goal is 100% participation by the families at Bel Aire by Sept 30th!  Bel Aire PTA Meeting - Friday September 4th at 1:00pm Please join us for the Bel Aire PTA meeting on Friday September 4th at 1:00pm, in the Staff Development Room. We will discuss open volunteer positions, teacher/parent liaison needs for the year, and planning of our upcoming Fall Fest and Book Fair. Whether you are coming to meet parents, learn about our school or raise your hand to volunteer, please join us! A Zoom link will also be shared closer to the meeting date.  School Volunteer Opportunities Become a Class Helper - Complete by THIS FRIDAY August 28th: Each classroom needs a room parent, a party planner and a yearbook coordinator. Please fill out an interest FORM HERE by August 28th to be involved in your child’s classroom. PTA will contact you with your placement. Lunch Duty Volunteering: Sign up for a biweekly recurring LUNCH SHIFT HERE. If the schedule is full, you can still sign up for the substitute list or to be contacted if spots open up. Other PTA Roles: If you are interested in becoming more involved with PTA, please email Bel Aire PTA Site Chair Kelly McCoy. I hope you had a wonderful summer and are as excited as we are for another fantastic school year. I'm honored to be returning for my second year as your Reed Union School District PTA President, and I'm looking forward to building on the momentum from last year. We have so much to look forward to, including the launch of ParentSquare, an amazing group of new PTA volunteers, and exciting events and initiatives planned throughout the year. Your PTA plays an important role in creating the experiences that make our schools special. Membership dues help fund community favorites like Towntastic, Fall Fest, Book Fairs, and The Bel Aire Play, support our incredible teachers and staff, provide campus improvements like the new basketball hoops at Del Mar, and make milestone celebrations such as graduation events possible.
