Every Day Counts We continue to share the importance of regular daily attendance and Every Day Counts Attendance Matters awareness and note a few barriers families may be experiencing that lead to absences. One area recognized as significant is student mental health, which may contribute to lower attendance. Did you know our school provides support services to students and families? Today, K-12 students are experiencing higher levels of anxiety, depression, and trauma compared to previous generations. Factors such as social media, the pandemic, and the pressure to succeed are affecting students' energy levels, concentration, dependability, mental aptitude, and optimism, hindering their academic performance. According to the Association for Children's Mental Health, 1 in 5 children has a diagnosable emotional, behavioral, or mental health disorder, and 1 in 10 teenagers has a mental health issue impairing their daily functioning. Below are three ways to support your child’s mental health Praise positive character traits more often than achievements Encourage open communication and listen to your child’s concerns Take note of signs your child may benefit from outside help. These can include excessive worry, hopelessness, withdrawal, and/or changes in eating or sleeping habits We want to emphasize our commitment to the well-being of every student at our school. Please let us know if we can help provide the necessary support to overcome any attendance challenges and promote positive mental health. As partners in your child’s education, we want to keep you informed about the important decisions that affect our school and district. One key component of California’s education system is the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) . Here’s what you need to know: What is LCAP? The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a critical part of how California funds public schools. It provides school districts with flexibility in how they spend state funds while ensuring that they are addressing the specific needs of their students. The LCAP is a three-year plan that gets updated annually to reflect progress and adjustments based on student outcomes and community input. Why Does LCAP Matter? The LCAP matters because it focuses on equity and student success . It requires schools to meet the needs of all students, particularly those from high-need groups, such as English learners, foster youth, and students from low-income families. This ensures that every student gets the support they need to succeed. Key Goals of the LCAP Each district’s LCAP must outline specific goals in areas such as: Academic Achievement : Improving student performance and closing achievement gaps. School Climate : Fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment. Engagement : Encouraging family involvement and improving student engagement. Access to Courses : Ensuring that students have access to a broad curriculum, including college and career readiness programs. How is LCAP Developed? The development of the LCAP is a collaborative process that includes input from parents, students, teachers, and other community members. As parents, your voices are critical in helping shape the priorities of the district. We hold meetings and surveys to gather your feedback and ensure that our plan reflects the needs of our community. How You Can Get Involved We invite all parents to participate in the LCAP process! By joining school board meetings, attending LCAP workshops, or simply sharing your thoughts through surveys, you can have a direct impact on how our district allocates resources to support student learning. School Naming Committee Update #1
School Naming Committee Update #1 School Naming Committee Update #1 Not displaying correctly? View in browser Dear PJUSD Community, Yesterday, our district hosted its first ad hoc committee meeting for naming our new elementary school. This was a significant step in the naming process, laying the groundwork for the committee by reviewing board policy and school naming practices. At the end of the meeting, the committee narrowed down the possible themes to two main ideas: Geography-based and Community Values-based, ruling out the theme of naming the school after an individual . As we prepare for our next brainstorming session, we invite students, staff, parents, and community members to share name suggestions that align with these themes. You can easily submit your ideas through the "Suggestion Box" on our district’s website—visit the "School Construction" page under the "Community" tab on our homepage. We’re grateful for the dedication of our ad hoc team and look forward to reviewing the thoughts and suggestions of our school community at our next meeting. Stay tuned for more updates!
