COVID-19 Update
March 8, 2021 Dear Solvay Community, We were notified by the Onondaga County Health Department that two high school students tested positive for COVID-19. The two students were last in school on Tuesday, March 2nd. Contact tracing done in collaboration with the County Health Department indicated that a total of two students needed to be quarantined. Throughout last week in accordance with the County Health Department guidelines related to athletics, we tested a total of 63 athletes and athletic staff for COVID-19. All test results were negative. Important Survey Reminder
Please remember to complete this survey for each student attending the District by 3 pm, Monday, March 8th . It is essential that we receive 1 response for every student attending our district to allow us to develop a plan to increase the in-person school opportunities for students in response to the County Executive’s announcement of the reduction in the physical distancing requirements in schools from 6-feet to 3-feet. COVID-19 Update - New County Guidelines
Good Evening, This afternoon the County Executive, Ryan McMahon along with the Onondaga County Health Commissioner, Dr. Indu Gupta, announced new county-level guidance for school districts in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary focus of the announced change in guidance relates to the reduction of physical distancing in schools from the current 6-feet to 3-feet. At this time there are significant details that need to be worked out, including the acquisition of barriers that will now be required with the decrease in the physical distance. The District is already working to respond to the new guidance. Our goal will be to continue our focus on the health and safety of our staff and students while providing the best learning opportunity possible given the current situation. To help us respond to the new guidance we ask that you fill out this survey for each student. Please complete the survey by 3 pm, Monday, March 8th to help us with our planning. Y o u will need to fill out t he survey for each child residing in your house that attends Solvay UFSD. We will work to keep you informed as we work through the process of adjusting to this new guidance. March 2, 2021 Dear Solvay Community, In collaboration with Onondaga County, voluntary asymptomatic testing was conducted in all three buildings today. A total of 85 staff and students were tested. All results were negative. COVID-19 Update
February 26, 2021 Dear Solvay Community, We were notified that a high school student and a middle school student tested positive for COVID-19. The last day in the district for both of these students was Friday, February 12th. Contact tracing done in collaboration with Onondaga County Health Department indicated that the students were not in school during their infection period, thus there was no in-district exposure. The athletics department conducted the required weekly asymptomatic COVID-19 testing of athletes and adults associated with teams currently in season. A total of 39 students and staff were tested. All results were negative. COVID-19 Update
February 23, 2021 Dear Solvay Community, We were notified that a high school student who was last in the building on February 12th tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing done in collaboration with Onondaga County Health Department indicated that the student was not in school during his/her infection period, thus there was no in district exposure. Voluntary COVID-19 surveillance testing was conducted in all three buildings today in collaboration with Onondaga County. Thank you to the County for supporting this effort and the 125 students and staff that participated in the testing. All results were negative. COVID-19 Update
February 22, 2021 Dear Solvay Community, We were notified by Onondaga County Health Department that a fully remote high school student tested positive for COVID-19. There was no district exposure as the student has not been in any buildings. Weekly COVID-19 surveillance testing of student-athletes continued over the break last week. On Wednesday, February 17th a total of 32 student-athletes and adults associated with our winter sports teams were tested. All results were negative. COVID-19 Update
February 16, 2021 Dear Solvay Community, We were notified yesterday that a women’s varsity basketball player who last participated in a team practice on Friday, February 12th, tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing done in collaboration with Onondaga County Health Department indicated that seven of the positive individual’s teammates and one adult associated with the team needed to be quarantined. All individuals impacted by the positive individual have been notified. In accordance with the County’s guidance for athletics, the women’s varsity basketball team will cease all related activities for 10 days. The team will recommence activities on February 23rd, 2021. COVID-19 Update
February 11, 2021 Dear Solvay Community, Asymptomatic COVID-19 surveillance testing was conducted in collaboration with Onondaga County Health Department in all three school buildings today. Thank you to the 99 staff and students that participated in this voluntary testing. All results were negative. Regular surveillance testing of student-athletes began yesterday afternoon. In total 37 student-athletes were tested with all results being negative.
