2025-26 Community Announcement - February 2026
2025-26 Community Announcement February 2026 Dear Dos Palos-Oro Loma Families, Teachers, and Staff, As we close the month of February and move deeper into the second semester, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible learning and experiences happening across our district. February has been a month centered on two powerful themes: Kindness and Engagement. Across our elementary campuses, students participated in Random Acts of Kindness activities, character recognition programs, and PBIS celebrations that reinforce the importance of fairness, determination, and respect. At Marks Elementary, students earned rewards through the Mustang Market and focused on the character trait of Fairness. At Dos Palos Elementary, families came together for Family Art Night while students participated in Random Acts of Kindness Week and campus safety drills. Our youngest learners at Dos Palos Early Childhood celebrated Valentine’s Day, participated in Preschool Spring Picture Days, and engaged in their Family Art Hop—while building creativity and perseverance in the classroom. Bryant Middle School students continued to demonstrate strong school pride through athletics, enrichment clubs, and academic focus as Quarter 3 progress reports were finalized. We encourage all middle school students to continue communicating with teachers and taking advantage of support opportunities as we head toward the final stretch of the school year. At George Christian Educational Center, students connected learning to real-world experiences through field trips, college exploration opportunities, and community-building events like the Pancake Social and Random Acts of Kindness Week. These experiences strengthen both academic relevance and school spirit. At Dos Palos High School, our students and staff are demonstrating a strong commitment to academic excellence and college and career readiness. Core academic classes are actively preparing for upcoming spring assessments, while our English Learner students are preparing for ELPAC testing and working toward reclassification milestones that open additional academic opportunities. Our Math Department continues collaborating with the Merced County Office of Education to strengthen instructional strategies and student engagement. Students in dual-enrollment Art 2 are preparing for an educational seminar experience through Disneyland’s Imagination Campus, connecting classroom learning to real-world creative industries. Additionally, our Career Technical Education (CTE) students are participating in competitive events such as SkillsUSA, FFA, and the Virtual Enterprise Trade Show, while staff members are diligently preparing for the upcoming WASC accreditation visit. Events like the recent Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) workshop reflect our continued focus on ensuring every student is prepared for postsecondary success. In addition to the strong work happening in our classrooms, we continue to make meaningful progress on several facilities initiatives designed to enhance safety, improve learning environments, and plan responsibly for the future. We currently have multiple active projects in various stages of design and construction. Planning for a new press box at Dos Palos High School continues with recent site evaluations helping determine options for the best long-term solution. At Marks Elementary, the Solar Canopy Project is progressing ahead of schedule and is anticipated to be completed by late March. This project will provide energy efficiency benefits while improving campus functionality. Design work is also underway for new modular classrooms funded through our ELOP afterschool program at both Marks Elementary and Dos Palos Elementary. These additions will provide dedicated ELOP after-school program classrooms equipped with restrooms, sinks, and technology. As part of our Facilities Master Planning process, we are finalizing a comprehensive needs assessment to prioritize improvements districtwide. Initial focus areas include accessible pathway improvements, enhanced site security and access control, and infrastructure upgrades such as sewer system improvements. In addition, we are evaluating opportunities to improve parking and operational efficiencies across the district. In this issue: Attendance Matters Districtwide, we continue to emphasize the importance of attendance and academic focus, especially as we approach state testing season. Every day in school matters. Consistent attendance, engaged learning, and strong partnerships between home and school are critical components of student success. Tech Tips for Families Phishing Scams: The District’s Technology Department continues to monitor and strengthen our email spam filters. Remember that staff will never ask for money, passwords, or personal information via email or text. If you receive a suspicious message, please contact your school office for verification. Free Wireless Internet Access: Free Wireless Internet Access: LTE hotspots are available at all school offices for families in need of reliable home internet. These devices are free of charge, filtered for student safety, and ready to support learning beyond the classroom. We’re Hiring—Join Our Team! Our District is looking for dedicated individuals to serve as substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, office staff, cafeteria workers, health technicians, bus drivers, preschool teachers, and more. If you are interested, please call (209) 392-0200 or visit EdJoin.org to explore our current job openings. Upcoming Dates to Remember March 14: Rods and Mods Car Show at DPHS March 18: Ag Day at Dos Palos Elementary March 19: Spring Bazaar at George Christian Education Center March 19: Regular Board Meeting at Marks Elementary School March 20: 3rd Quarter Ends March 27: No School Day I am continually inspired by the dedication of our teachers, classified staff, administrators, and families. The work happening in our classrooms each day reflects a deep commitment to ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and challenged. As we look ahead to March and the final months of the school year, our focus remains clear: Strong instruction Positive school culture Meaningful family engagement Preparation for long-term student success Thank you for your continued partnership and trust. It is an honor to serve this community, and I am proud of the progress we are making together. With gratitude, Dr. Andrew Schwab Superintendent Dos Palos-Oro Loma Joint Unified School District
