Doorways of NW FL Housing Survey Starts Today - Jan....
Doorways of Northwest FL will be in Calhoun County Jan. 26-30 to get a count of the people experiencing homelessness in our county. Last year, Calhoun County was the ONLY COUNTY that reported ZERO, therefore, funding was not made available to Calhoun County. Oftentimes, I am contacted by families that are experiencing difficult situations due to unexpected life events/circumstances. We really need to a part of this survey so that funds can be allocated for our county in those circumstances. Homelessness doesn't only mean living outside or in a shelter but rather one without adequate electricity, water, shelter, etc.; substandard housing. People living in parks, cars, campers, hotels, or even if you are still in a FEMA trailer, you qualify. If you are temporarily sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship or a similar reason, you qualify as doubling up. A Doorways volunteer will be set up at the following libraries: Blountstown, Kinard, and Mossy Pond to help people complete surveys for assistance. If transportation is not available to go in person, please call the library and they will connect you to the volunteer collecting the information. You may also reach out to me, the Student & Family Liaison and I will collect the information for this survey. In addition, if you meet any of the above situations and you would like your child added to the Blessings in a Backpack Program, please contact me.
