  • Update for TPS Families and Staff

Dear Topeka Public Schools Families and Staff, We are continuing to closely monitor the weather forecast as our community experiences warmer temperatures over the next 10 days. We sincerely thank all of our families and staff for your patience, understanding, and continued support. During the heat wave, our schools will remain open to serve the many students and families who rely on the resources and services provided each day. However, families who choose to keep their children home this week due to the excessive heat will receive an excused absence. Families should contact their child’s building principal or use the attendance line to notify the school of the absence. For students who do attend school, our staff members remain committed to doing everything possible to keep them safe and comfortable throughout the day. We are continuing to take the following steps to support our students and staff: Elementary recess is being moved indoors or scheduled during the morning when temperatures are cooler. PE classes are being held indoors in climate-controlled settings. Outdoor athletic and band practices at our secondary schools are being adjusted to take place indoors or during the morning or evening as temperatures allow. For guidelines related to athletics, families may also review the  KSHSAA Recommended Practice and Competition Modification Policy Based on Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) . Students and staff are encouraged to bring and use water bottles throughout the school day. Air conditioning systems are being programmed to start earlier to help ensure buildings are at a comfortable temperature when students and staff arrive. Resources for families, including locations where community members can stay cool after school hours,  are available on the district website . The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our highest priority. Buses will continue operating their normal routes, and our transportation team will work diligently to safely transport students to and from school. During this period of excessive heat, we encourage families who are able to transport their children to and from school to consider doing so. If you have questions or your family needs additional resources during this time, please contact your child’s building principal. We want to extend a special thank you to our incredible school-based staff, bus drivers, and maintenance technicians, who are working tirelessly to address needs across our schools and care for our students; and we are grateful for the continued partnership of our TPS families. As a reminder, there will be  no school on Monday, September 7 , and all district buildings will be closed in observance of Labor Day. We hope all of our families and staff enjoy the long weekend.

  • Welcome to ParentSquare!

Introducing ParentSquare Important Information for TPS Families Dear TPS Families: As we prepare for the 2026-2027 school year, Topeka Public Schools is excited to introduce ParentSquare, our new districtwide communication platform. ParentSquare will provide one secure location for classroom, school, district, athletics, and activity communications, making it easier than ever to stay informed and connected. As part of the district's implementation of new Kansas legislation regarding electronic communication with students, Topeka Public Schools has identified five Board-approved platforms for staff who work directly with students and families: ParentSquare, Synergy, Google Classroom, Seesaw, and SchoolMessenger. These approved platforms provide staff, students, and families with appropriate ways to communicate while helping the district maintain safe and consistent communication practices. Through ParentSquare, families and staff will be able to receive messages by email, text, mobile app, or web browser, communicate with teachers and staff, and customize notification preferences. Messages can also be automatically translated into your preferred language. ParentSquare will be rolled out in phases during the first semester, beginning with secondary coaches and activity sponsors, followed by teachers and other staff. Additional information and training resources will be shared in the coming weeks. Thank you for your continued partnership as we enhance communication across Topeka Public Schools.   ParentSquare Parent Overview Four Quick Easy Steps to Take Today On Monday, you will receive an email with a registration link.
