District Updates Every Panther, Every Day - Connected | Challenged | Celebrated March 13, 2026 We Grow Panthers Spotlight Our district had reason to celebrate at a truly historic event. The OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA Monster Meeting — a forum with over a century of history that has welcomed nationally recognized leaders to Indianapolis, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — welcomed Panther representation in a remarkable way. This year's featured speaker, Gabby Thomas, is an Olympian, Harvard graduate, and public health advocate. Known worldwide for her athletic achievements, Thomas spoke openly about leadership, resilience, navigating pressure, and mental health, sparking a conversation that resonated with our students. The Monster Meeting Series is a shared community experience welcoming students, families, educators, and community members to engage in meaningful dialogue together. Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services, Dr. Nataki Pettigrew, brought greetings at the event, followed by our very own North Central students taking center stage on the program. Two NC seniors represented Washington Township with pride and distinction! Gabby Moore delivered the welcome and invocation before a packed, distinguished audience. Mikeicha Joseph served as student facilitator, personally interviewing Gabby Thomas on stage. Mikeicha was also awarded an academic scholarship at the event. We are proud of our educators leading with excellence and our students stepping into spaces that matter and leading the way as leaders in our community. #We Grow Panthers Strategic Plan Progress Survey Washington Township Families and Staff, As we near the completion of Year 1 of our District Strategic Plan, we are taking an intentional pause to reflect, assess our progress, and ensure our Year 2 efforts are coordinated, focused, and impactful. To support this important work, we are partnering with Education Elements to administer the Data Triangle Survey. This survey is an opportunity for us to take the pulse on how implementation is progressing across our schools and District, and to better understand where our strategic priorities are gaining traction and where we may need to adjust, refine, or strengthen our approach. At Washington Township, we deeply value the voices of our staff and families. The Data Triangle Survey is designed to capture multiple perspectives in a meaningful and streamlined way. The survey will gather feedback across four key areas aligned to our Strategic Plan: Instructional Support and Feedback Student Learning and Engagement School Culture and Safety Student Experience and Well-Being In addition, this year’s survey will include questions designed to gather input on the future utilization of eLearning Days in Washington Township. As we continue to evaluate instructional models and operational practices, your feedback will help inform how eLearning Days are structured and implemented moving forward. The survey results will provide both quantitative and qualitative data that will help us better understand how our initiatives are being experienced in practice. As district and school leaders, we are committed to using this feedback to: Celebrate and build upon areas of strength Identify opportunities for growth Ensure stronger alignment and coordination of Year 2 implementation efforts Refine district and school-level action plans in support of student success Inform future decisions regarding instructional delivery models, including eLearning Days Your voice is essential. The insights you share will directly inform how we prioritize resources, support our schools, and execute the next phase of our Strategic Plan. The Data Triangle Survey will be open March 16–27, and you will be receiving a link to the survey in the coming days. Your Privacy Matters We want to assure you that the survey prioritizes anonymity for all participants. Participants will receive general survey links that will not be tied to any identifying participant information. The feedback will be used solely to guide continuous improvement and strategic planning for District and School Leadership. Thank you for your continued partnership and your commitment to ensuring an exceptional educational experience for every student in Washington Township. We look forward to learning from you as we prepare for a strong and successful Year 2 of executing our District Strategic Plan. Great North Run Tomorrow! Are YOU ready? Northview Middle School Selected as Finalist The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) announced this week that Northview Middle School in Washington Township, Indiana, has been awarded $10,000 for its selection as an NIET Founder’s Award finalist. The prestigious Founder’s Award was created by Lowell Milken in 2008 to honor one school in the United States each year for exceptional implementation of NIET’s principles to build educator excellence and advance student success. Founder’s Award finalists are selected by NIET based on several factors, including improving classroom instruction, creating high-quality professional learning focused on the real-time needs of teachers and students, and engaging teacher leaders and school leaders in building a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. After strengthening the Instructional Leadership Team, Northview Middle School now provides teachers with tailored professional learning and support that ultimately moves the needle for students. From 2023 to 2025, the percentage of Northview Middle School students scoring Proficient on state assessments increased 22 points in math and 11 points in English Language Arts (ELA). The proficiency rate statewide increased by only one point in math and decreased in ELA during the same time period. “Northview Middle School exemplifies what is possible when a school’s Instructional Leadership Team commits to meeting weekly to focus on instruction and student outcomes,” said NIET Chief Executive Officer Dr. Joshua Barnett. “This dedication has spread across the campus, with teachers strengthening their instruction to help students succeed.” “Our partnership with NIET allowed us to reshape our ILT, moving from a group that previously met weekly to discuss building-wide logistics to a team that put instruction and student outcomes as the focus of our work,” said Principal Tom Hakim. “NIET helps us put up the guard rails so that we stay focused on instruction.” As Northview Middle School experiences increased student achievement, teachers feel motivated and encouraged to continue refining their instructional skills, further solidifying the school’s positive learning environment. “With NIET, we are not just focusing on the standardized-tested subjects and teachers,” said Hakim. “All our teachers are involved with the idea that if we all level up, then the rising tide lifts all ships. Our students and families are starting to see that and are helping us create a culture of high achievement.” About NIET The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) is a national nonprofit based in Arizona that serves states and districts nationwide. For 25 years, NIET has partnered with schools, districts, states, and universities to build educator excellence and give all students the opportunity for success. NIET’s initiatives, including the TAP System, teacher and leader development, Vist Your Local Library As you look ahead to Spring Break, remember that our local public libraries are a great resource not only for accessing books but also for engaging programming. We Grow Panthers Spotlight "The trip of a lifetime" perfectly summarizes the reactions that have been shared about the Civil Rights Journey, as taken by True North students recently. Students and staff from True North Academy and other Simon Youth Academies recently participated in this life-changing trip that took them to Birmingham Alabama and Atlanta Georgia. This multi-day experience was designed to deepen their understanding of American history and the ongoing fight for justice, equity, and opportunity. Following are a few of the thoughts shared from our True North participants: Devien Cal- “It was the best weekend of my life as I was better able to understand my culture.” Zion Logan- “It was surreal. I expanded my knowledge and met new people.” Ariana Williams- "It was a 10/10 experience. I met some really cool people including a survivor of the 116th Street Baptist Church bombing.” Cherish Williams - "I absolutely loved it. It was thought-provoking as we visited the different locations and I saw how important faith is in the black church.” Mr. Adrian Arias- “It is an experience that all teachers, not just social studies, need to take part in.” We truly appreciate our partnership with the Simon Youth Foundation and all that they do to support students and staff. This journey truly impacted our participants and we hope to share it with others in the future. #WeGrowPanthers You Matter Week This past week, schools across the District celebrated You Matter Week to emphasize the belief that every student and their unique identity MATTERS. District Updates
District Updates Every Panther, Every Day - Connected | Challenged | Celebrated January 30, 2026 We Grow Panthers Spotlight WT Robotics Teams Compete Westlane Middle School recently hosted 39 robotics teams bringing together over 200 Washington Township students from all elementary and middle schools across the district. Teams competed in two challenges. In the Teamwork Challenge, pairs of robots faced off on a 6' x 8' field during 60-second matches, requiring students to collaborate to score points. The Robot Skills Challenge tested both driver-controlled and autonomous programming abilities, with students aiming to maximize their robot's point total through minimal human interaction. The students had a lot of fun and learned how to work together on a team as part of the Robotics Program at each of the district schools. They also reported that robotics helped their problem solving skills because “sometimes the robot doesn’t do what you want it to do, so you have to figure out why.” Robotics clubs are expanding across the district at all grade levels, offering students hands-on opportunities to design, build, program, and operate robots for structured competitions. These programs develop STEM (integrated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) skills while fostering teamwork, critical thinking, and technical expertise. #WeGrowPanthers Thank You We extend our sincere thanks to our maintenance and custodial teams for their hard work in preparing the school grounds and facilities for the return of students and staff following the recent winter storm. Your dedication ensures our schools are safe, welcoming, and ready for learning! DSP Community Update If you were unable to attend the Board meeting this past Wednesday, we invite you to review the mid-year update on our District Strategic Plan. Our executive leadership team shared an overview of our progress during the first year of implementation. You can listen to the audio presentation in Board Docs on the District website, from the Board menu drop down. In addition, our strategic plan website includes both the Implementation Dashboard and the Goals Dashboard. By selecting the “Our Progress” button at the bottom of the page, you can see updates on key initiatives and track our progress toward district goals. Thank you for your continued interest in our shared work to support student success. 2026-2027 District Calendar The District calendar for the 2026-27 school year has been updated. Please review it and other district calendars on our website. Panorama Student Survey In an effort to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for your child’s feedback via two online surveys they will be completing at school. The survey window is March 16-27, and each survey should not take more than 10 minutes to complete. Indiana statute requires the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) and Washington Township Schools to provide parents and students notice of your rights. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering the upcoming Spring 2026 survey. The content of the survey will ask students to reflect on their classroom and school experiences and their well-being related to school. We are asking that all of our students participate in the survey, as their feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. Please note that if a student does not feel like they have enough information to answer a question they will be able to skip the item altogether. If you wish to review the survey materials, they are available on our website. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please do not hesitate to contact your school principal. And, if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys, please log in to Skyward, click on “Online Forms” and complete the Panorama Survey Form no later than March 6. North Central Senior Class Blood Drive The North Central High School senior class officers are hosting their annual blood drive on Friday, February 6th. Last year the senior class collected 193 units of blood, with over 120 first-time donors. While the NC Blood Drive is for staff and students only, any member of the Washington Township community who donates to a Versiti Blood Center and indicates they are representing North Central can help fuel the North Central effort this year and save three lives in the process. North Central continually is recognized as being the largest single-day high school blood drive in the state. National School Counseling Week February 2-6 is National School Counseling Week. WTS school counselors support all students to achieve school success and plan for a career. Our 31 school counselors across the elementary, middle, and high school levels implement comprehensive school counseling programs and are a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century. #NSCW26 #WeGrowPanthers #WhyWT Middle School Open House We invite families to attend our Middle School Open Houses this Sunday, February 1, from 1-4 pm. Right here in Washington Township, our Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program gives students the opportunity to become bilingual, biliterate, and globally ready while learning all their core subjects in English and Spanish, beginning at Willow Lake Elementary and continuing through Westlane Middle School. Over the course of the program, students learn math, science, social studies, and language arts in both languages - building strong academic skills, cultural understanding, and confidence as lifelong learners. In 6th grade, students in the Dual Language Immersion program even earn high school Spanish credits, putting them on a path toward advanced coursework and college readiness. Our DLI program is one of the many ways MSDWT empowers students to thrive in a connected, multilingual world. 🌐 Learn more: Contact Kellie Brotherton, kbrotherton@msdwt.k12.in.us, Principal at Willow Lake, to schedule a tour. District Updates Every Panther, Every Day - Connected | Challenged | Celebrated November 14, 2025 Calendar Reminder Please be reminded that all Washington Township Schools will be closed for Thanksgiving break November 24-28. Please visit the district website for all calendar information. We Grow Panthers Spotlight Celebrating Veterans All Washington Township schools honored and celebrated our community's veterans in different ways. On Sunday, November 9, students from Greenbriar Elementary School performed material that they have been preparing since late August, to honor our veterans and first responders. Through dancing, singing, reading spoken word poetry, and drumming, students came together with members of the Washington Township community to not only honor these individuals, but also to support the organization Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF). “Greenbriar Elementary has a long tradition of honoring our veterans through the arts,” said Mr. Blake Busch, Music and Performing Arts Teacher at Greenbriar Elementary. “Many of our student families have current and former military family members, and this event gives us the opportunity to say thank you for your service and we honor you.” Additionally, Greenbriar teacher Ms. Journey Evans sang a solo at the event to honor our veterans and first responders. As we are reminded of our mission to grow panthers in Washington Township, Ms. Evans’ tribute was especially meaningful, as she is also a North Central High School graduate, class of 2018. NCHS Fall Musical Highlight On October 24 and 25, more than 100 students from North Central Performing Arts came together to present this year’s fall musical, Freaky Friday. The production featured two evening performances, a Saturday matinee, and a special Friday matinee attended by over 650 students from Washington Township’s three middle schools—Eastwood, Northview, and Westlane—who enjoyed a sneak peek of the show’s first act. The fall musical unites student actors, designers, and musicians from across disciplines to create a dynamic final production, which this year drew more than 1,400 audience members to the ticketed performances. North Central Theatre continues its proud performing arts tradition, with the student-directed Winter One Acts coming up on February 19 and 20. For more information, visit northcentraltheatre.org. Highlights in Honor of National STEM Day IT Pathways - In honor of National STEM Day, our IT Pathway students are tackling real-world challenges! Students are learning to spot security threats and find ways to protect computer networks. These skills are crucial in today's digital world. Through hands-on projects, Panthers identify weak spots in network security and recommend solutions to keep information safe. They examine actual security threats, discuss their impact on society, and improve their work by reviewing each other's findings. A recent highlight was a visit from a cybersecurity professional who showed students the cutting-edge tools used in the industry today, giving them a glimpse into their potential future careers. Students wrap up by presenting their security reports, showcasing what they've learned about protecting networks while building valuable skills for careers in technology and cybersecurity. Principles of Engineering Additionally our Principles of Engineering students have been diving into the world of simple machines and robotics. Using VEX robotics kits, they're experimenting with gears, forces, and how machines work efficiently. It's exciting to watch them bring engineering concepts to life through hands-on building and problem-solving challenges. Autumn Winds Concert Last Friday, the NCHS Wind Ensemble presented their annual Autumn Winds Concert. The ensemble of 73 students - 17 freshmen, 15 sophomores, 17 juniors, and 24 seniors - was joined by 34 middle school musicians for a special side-by-side performance of two pieces. The concert featured a particular highlight: guest conductor Mr. Stephen Pratt, Professor of Music Emeritus from the IU Jacobs School of Music, led the ensemble in Holst's Second Suite, a cornerstone of concert band literature. Mr. Pratt, who is highly sought after nationwide, brought a wealth of expertise to this memorable performance.
