Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Parents/Guardians, This Thursday, April 27, 2023, our Parent Advisory Committee will meet at 6:00 PM at the Santa Maria High School Cafeteria. A dinner and lite treat will be provided at 5:30 PM, and our meeting will begin at 6:00 PM. The schedule for the evening will begin with brief introductions. The focus of our meeting will be the District's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) for the 2023-24 school year. Parents/Guardians and students are encouraged to attend to provide input to next year's plan. Learn about the LCAP process and provide input on how to implement resources to improve the needs of our students. Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Parents/Guardians, This Thursday, March 23, 2023, our Parent Advisory Committee will meet at 6:00 PM at the Santa Maria High School Cafeteria. A lite treat will be provided at 6:00 PM, and our meeting will begin at 6:30 PM. The schedule for the evening will begin with brief introductions. The focus of our meeting will be on Smarter Balance Assessments for English and math (SBAC), the California Science Test (CST), and the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC). Also, the input collected from parents/guardians from last month’s meeting will be shared from the fall student climate survey and provided as an attachment. Come learn about the data and provide input on how to implement resources to improve the needs of our students. Upcoming Storm Information
Dear Students, Families and Staff, All Santa Maria Joint Union High School District (SMJUHSD) schools and the district office will be open Tuesday, March 14. Please review the incoming weather information below. We will update you if anything changes. Thank you, Kenny Klein SMJUHSD Public Information Officer From Ready SBC: A FLOOD WATCH has been issued for Santa Barbara County effective 9 AM Tuesday, March 14 through 5 AM Wednesday, March 15. Avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas, areas with standing water, and areas near creeks or streams. If you are in one of these areas be prepared to go to higher ground. Visit www.weather.gov/lox for more information. Another rain system is expected to arrive in Santa Barbara County on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Rainfall is predicted to start Tuesday morning and remain consistent through Wednesday morning. Current forecasts indicate this storm is likely to cause excessive runoff which may result in dangerous flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low lying and flood prone areas. Residents should take steps to prepare ahead of the storm. https://www.countyofsb.org/576/Storm-Readiness If you are concerned that this storm may cause unsafe conditions to your home, leave the area before rain starts. Do not wait for an official evacuation notification to leave. If you feel unsafe during the rainfall, shelter in place in your home by gathering your family and pets in the inner most room of your house, preferably on the top floor if you live in a multi-story home. Do not attempt to drive at night or while it is raining, as roads may be damaged and your car may be swept away by moving water or debris. Public safety officials are keeping a close eye on the incoming storm. Officials will continue to work together to further assess if emergency protective actions are necessary, such as an evacuation warning, evacuation order, or shelter in place. We will update the school community as we receive additional guidance from county and state officials. Thank you, Kenny Klein, SMJUHSD Public Information Officer Dear SMJUHSD School Community, An atmospheric river storm is forecast for Santa Barbara County beginning the night of Thursday, March 9 through Saturday, March 11. Many hours of steady rainfall are expected with rain totals between 2-4 inches for this event. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the entire county. Excessive storm runoff combined with snow melt may result in dangerous flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Extensive street flooding is likely. Residents should remain vigilant as weather conditions can quickly change. Take the following precautions to stay safe. Those living in areas prone to flooding, and in or below recent burn areas should stay aware of changing conditions and be prepared to take protective actions, such as moving to high ground. Drive carefully through wet road conditions and limit travel when possible, especially at night. Be aware of your surroundings and travel routes. The rain can cause mud, rock slides and other debris to impact roads. Never drive or walk into floodwaters or go around barricades. It is impossible to know how deep the water is just by looking at it. Storm impacts can cause power outages. Charge important electronic devices and be prepared in case an unannounced power outage occurs. Secure belongings that could be impacted by winds, such as outdoor furniture.
