From the Superintendent's Office January 13, 2021 Good afternoon families and staff, Today, the District received notice about one student who recently tested positive for Covid-19. RMS student, grade 8, on the “A” basketball team, last at practice on January 7. To my knowledge, the case has not been posted on the State dashboard. While there is as yet no evidence of transmission within the school, any exposed students or staff have been directed to quarantine at home for 10 days. The District will respect the confidentiality of these staff members, students, and their families. Please be responsible and follow safety protocols at home and in school, including mask wearing, hand washing, and social distancing, to combat the spread of this virus. • Letter from Superintendent Murphy re: Returning to H...

From the Superintendent's Office January 10, 2021 Dear Parents and Staff, As we begin the new year 2021, I wanted to update you on a few noteworthy items. This week students were in a synchronous remote model for learning. There were some students in the buildings receiving support as needed from staff. During the last few weeks, the school principals have been preparing to return to a hybrid model of instruction. On Wednesday, I am recommending to the Instructional Committee of the school board a plan to return grades Pre-K through grade eight on January 19th and students in grades 9-12 on February 1st when the new semester begins for the students. This recommendation is based on the COVID-19 activity in the region and the impact on staff resources. I also made this decision after meeting with the district’s medical consultant Dr. James Nobel, Infectious Disease Specialist. I will also be recommending a revised approach to hybrid learning in grades 6-12, with a schedule that looks like this: Schedule for Grades 6-12 Upon Return to Hybrid Instruction    Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Cohort 1 in school   Cohort 2 in school   Students work asynchronously from  home   Cohort 1 in  s chool   Cohort 2 in  s chool   Cohort  2 live   instruction  remotely    Cohort 1 live instruction remotely   Cohort 2 live  instruction  remotely   Cohort 1 live instruction remotely   Under the new hybrid model for grades 6-12, students have four days per week of synchronous instruction with their teachers, two days in person and two days online remotely. The elementary grades will deliver instruction as they did before the break in December. Please watch for more information next week from your child’s school. As the district prepares to return to in-school learning, please inform school nurses or school administrators about any staff or student quarantines or positive test results. Our planning going forward relies on this information. The district has received notice that all the district’s school nurses have received the first dose of the vaccine. This is good news and we are hopeful that the vaccine distribution will occur for educators and support staff in March. The district will resume the high school and middle school athletic program. All the protocols and expectations are in place for the athletes and coaches. The recommendation to resume the program was based on the importance for the students to have activities that are so important to their social and emotional growth. However, with that said, student athletes and coaches must follow the guidance, or the program will be suspended. This week in Washington, DC the country experienced an event that created questions and concerns from our students. Assistant Superintendent Palley and I met with administrators, along with several school counselors and psychologists to provide resources for the teaching and support staff to use if any questions arose in their classes. Most important was the message to LISTEN to the students and allow them to process what they heard and saw on various media sites. I have included several links for you to use should your children have questions about the events in Washington, DC. As always, I appreciate your support, suggestions and solutions to the work in the district. Sincerely, K athleen A. • Note from Superintendent on a personnel matter

Press Release December 21, 2020 On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, a former Concord High School student contacted a school administrator alleging that a teacher at the high school was engaged in inappropriate, on-line solicitation. Based on the information that was received, Concord Police Department and the NH Department of Education were immediately notified. Because the allegations concern possible criminal activity, Concord Police assumed jurisdiction of the case and have been working closely with District leadership, who are conducting their own internal investigation. The employee in question has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations, and is prohibited from being on District property. Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our students and staff is and will remain our number one priority.  I will continue to keep you updated to the extent possible, while balancing the privacy interests of the employee and the need for confidentiality required by law enforcement. • Extending our sympathy ...

From the Superintendent's Office December 20, 2020 The Concord School District family extends our deepest sympathies to the family of parent Evelyne Boley, who died tragically on December 19. Our entire staff is shaken and saddened by the recent news. The District is ready and positioned to support the children during this difficult time and to provide needed services. Each of our schools has a designated team to help children face trauma. Should your child need support to process this sad news, please reach out to your child’s Principal for assistance. In this season of caring and love, our school community will be ready to assist in any way. The Boley children have been students in our District for many years, and their loss has affected us all. If you would like to help, friends of the family have set up a GoFundMe  page for funeral and memorial expenses and to support Ms. Boley's children: https://gofund.me/2c7ba737 Sincerely, Kathleen A.
