  • Bobcat Bulletin 10/19/1025

Bobcat Bulletin 2025/2026 October 19th, 2025 Principal's Message Dear Bobcat community, Our Big Shake Out Drill went very well! We had many community partners on site to observe and offer feedback. They had many positive things to say about our dedication, thoughtfulness and training. Thank you to all who were able to help in any capacity. All of our training provides us the ease of mind that we are prepared and offers a chance to continually improve our safety practices. We will continue to learn, adjust and practice. Beginning on Wednesday, October 29th, there will be an ofrenda set up in the library for our Bobcat community to contribute to. Beginning on Monday, October 27th, please send in any pictures of lost loved ones you'd like to see honored on our ofrenda. Be sure to label the image on the back with your name, and your student's name and classroom number so we can be sure to return the pictures on November 7th. If anyone has any items to donate for the ofrenda, the items needed are: -colorful table cloth/ blanket -jars of marigolds -plates of pan dulce -candles (they will not be lit, or can be -electric/battery) -any other items to honor those we've lost. All items donated can be returned with labels, so please be sure to label you belongings. If there is anyone who would like to help with this project, please send me a message! Stay awkward, brave and kind, Carley Harp Principal PS- ☕️ For a special treat tomorrow morning, Lovey coffee cart will be out front providing warm beverages for sale for our adult community! Be sure to stop by for a delicious, caffeinated treat! A portion of sales go to Binkley to support our students! ☕️   PBIS and Restorative Practices What is bullying? Bullying is horrible and can have immediate and long-term detrimental effects. I am sure all of us adults can recall in vivid detail something harmful which happened to us decades ago. While we may say "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me," we know that is not true. Words hurt. In this fast paced, and highly connected world, bullying changes shape daily. All too often, school staff get reports from families that their student is being bullied. So, what is bullying? The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) Youth Violence Prevention division defines bullying as: -unwanted aggressive behavior -an imbalance of power -repeated -causing harm or distress mentally, physically or emotionally, or potential to cause harm All 4 criteria must be met in order to be defined as bullying. Often, what is thought of as bullying, is actually peer conflict. Peer conflict is very common, and can have some of the same traits and detrimental effects as bullying, and is often handled in similar fashion as bullying would be. Peer conflict occurs most often when both, or all parties have a part in the conflict and requires mediation by an adult to help resolve the conflict. That is when we use the Restorative Questions shared last week, and a follow up plan is established to support our students in moving forward in a manner in which everyone feels at peace. Next week, we will share the steps taken when bullying does occur and how it is handled at Binkley.   Thank you! A BIG thank you to two of our community partners who are donating funds and items to build our emergency preparedness kits! It sure takes a village and we appreciate the support!   Upcoming Events (Girls Basketball Schedule) October October 20th: Lovey Coffee Cart before school, Assembly October 22nd: 2nd grade Field Trip October 22: iReady Multilingual Parent Night October 23rd: Basketball at Binkley October 23rd: STEM night at Whited October 24th: Trunk or Treat October 27th: Teacher work day: No students October 28th: Board meeting at DO October 31st: End of Trimester 1   Visit the Binkley Boosters Site! 🎃 Join Us for Trunk or Treat! 👻 Friday, October 24 • School Parking Lot Get ready for a spook-tacular evening of fun, candy, and community spirit! 🕔 Sensory-Friendly Time: 5:30–5:45 PM A quieter, low-lights time for our younger students and RVP friends to enjoy the trunks without loud sounds or flashing lights. 🏚️ Haunted House Opens at 5:30 PM The first half hour will also be sensory-friendly — perfect for younger students or anyone who prefers a gentler spooky experience! 🍬 Main Event: 5:45–7:00 PM Visit creatively decorated trunks, play games, and enjoy Halloween fun with family and friends! • Bobcat Bulletin 10/12/1025

Bobcat Bulletin 2025/2026 October 12th, 2025 Principal's Message Dear Bobcat community, Every year from September 15 to October 15, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month — a time to recognize and honor the deep and lasting impact of Hispanic and Latino communities in our country. Here in Sonoma County, the influence of Hispanic culture is especially strong, rooted in generations of contributions that have shaped our local identity, enriched our traditions, and built the foundation of the vibrant community we live in today. From agriculture to the arts, education to entrepreneurship, Hispanic individuals and families have long played a vital role in Sonoma County’s growth and success. Whether through cultivating the vineyards that define our region, preserving cultural traditions through music and food, or leading efforts in civic engagement and social justice, their contributions are woven into the very fabric of this place we call home. Hispanic Heritage Month invites all of us to reflect not only on the past, but also on the future. As the Hispanic community continues to grow and thrive, so does its influence on the cultural, economic, and social landscape of America. Honoring this heritage means supporting and uplifting Hispanic voices, stories, and leadership — today and for generations to come. Let this month be more than a celebration — let it be a commitment to unity, respect, and shared progress. We honor the past, embrace the present, and look forward to a future enriched by the continued contributions of the Hispanic community in Sonoma County and across the nation. Along that vein, I would love to set up and offrenda on our campus beginning October 29th lasting until Nov. 7. If there is someone in our community who can help me with this task so that I honor Dia de los Muertos properly, please send me a message so we can work together. I will send out more information closer to that date so families can submit a photo of a loved one you'd like to honor. Stay awkward, brave and kind, Carley Harp Principal   PBIS and Restorative Practices Restorative Questions Making mistakes is a part of learning and growing. A large component of PBIS is to support our students in their learning and growth through the Restorative Process. When a student or students make a mistake, and harm is done, whether that be emotional or physical, we hold a restorative conversation with the involved parties, once they feel ready. We sit in a circle, facilitated by an adult, and ask each member the same questions: From your perspective, what's going on here? What were you thinking or feeling at the time? What have you thought about since then? Who was affected and how? What needs to be done to make things as right as possible? Once everyone has shared their responses, we are able to come to agreements about how to move forward. These questions require accountability and empower students to take ownership of their needs in a supported environment. Feel free to use these questions at home as well!   Upcoming Events (Girls Basketball Schedule) October October 13th: Assembly October 14th: Board Meeting at DO October 16th: Big Shake Out Drill October 17th: Basketball at Binkley October 20th: Assembly October 22nd: 2nd grade Field Trip October 22: iReady Multilingual Parent Night October 23rd: Basketball at Binkley October 23rd: STEM night at Whited October 24th: Trunk or Treat October 27th: Teacher work day: No students October 28th: Board meeting at DO October 31st: End of Trimester 1 Visit the Binkley Boosters Site!
