District News & Announcements Happy Summer Break! β˜€οΈ This is the final Weekly Community Newsletter of the 2025/2026 school year. The newsletter will take a break over the summer vacation and return in August when school starts again. Free Summer Meal Program πŸ₯ͺ Our food services department is providing free curbside grab-and-go meals this summer! Meals will be provided Monday through Friday, starting on June 9th and ending on August 1st. Meals will not be available on June 19th or July 4th due to Federal Holidays. Curbside pick-up locations and times: Ione Elementary: 11:00 - 12:00 Pine Grove Elementary: 11:00 - 11:30 Plymouth Elementary: 11:00 - 11:30 Argonaut High School: 12:00 - 12:30 Meals are free for any child under 18 years old. No sign-up or sign-in necessary. Children do not need to be present to get a meal. Please visit our Food Services webpage to see the menu. ELOP - Open Space at Junior Highs and Pioneer Elementary! πŸ“’ There is still open space in our Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) at the following sites: Pioneer Elementary School Ione Junior High School Jackson Junior High School To sign up, please go to our ELOP webpage.   News From the Community Back Pack 2 School Applications Now Open πŸŽ’ The Back-Pack 2 School project provides backpacks filled with school supplies for Amador County students going into grades K-12 so that they will feel supported by their community to be successful in school. If you would like to apply to receive backpacks and/or school supplies, please fill out the attached form (available in English and Spanish). Information on where to turn in the application is on the form. Please return completed applications no later than July 14, 2025 at 4:00 pm. District News & Announcements Help Bring the Arts to Elementary Students 🎨 We are seeking individuals who are interested in teaching dance, visual and/or electronic arts, and theatre in the 2025/2026 school year. As a contracted provider, you would work one day per week at an elementary school to provide instruction to our students. If you are interested in interviewing for one (or more) of these positions, please reach out to the school site you would like to support! Handwriting Without Tears - Curriculum Review Families are encouraged to come to the district office to review the new Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. The types of floats were split by grade level: 4th grade did counties, 5th grade did states, and 6th grade did countries. The float parade is a culminating event celebrating the research they did for their reports and presentations. Great job, everyone! Summer is the hardest time for the food bank, so the students wanted to provide some help. They collected 1,015 cans in total! Casey Casagrande Field Dedication ⚾ On Sunday, May 18, the baseball field at Independence High School was officially dedicated as Casey Casagrande Field. This marks the 12th consecutive year Ione Elementary has taken part in this event. New this year, and thanks to a partnership with Amador County Public Health, students also attended an engaging assembly focused on the importance of wearing bike helmets and practicing bicycle safety in our neighborhoods. Argonaut Staff Recognized At the May 7 board meeting, Argonaut High School principal Kelly Hunkins recognized 6 staff members with ACUSD Challenge Coins: Kevin Harlow, Alena Vratoss, Michelle Joyce, Sarah Yonan, Chris Lucke (not pictured), and Charlie Foyil. Special Education Superstars At the May 7 board meeting, each special education director selected one person to be awarded an ACUSD Challenge Coin. Dr. Sadie Hedegard, Assistant Superintendent of Special Education, awarded a challenge coin to Mahaila Hendricks, a community partner through ATCAA. Joshua Brock, ACOE Director of Special Education, awarded a challenge coin to Joy Wallen. Steve Russell, Director of Alternative Special Education, awarded a challenge coin to Lisa Putney. Jan Johnson, Program Specialist, awarded a challenge coin to Theresa Davis. Jill Weber, Program Specialist, awarded a challenge coin to Lacey Henry. Community Service Champions At the May 7 board meeting, students who completed 135 hours or more of community service were recognized for their accomplishments. 35 students were awarded certificates, block A letters, graduation cords, and pins depending on their total number of hours. This year, two students each completed over 1,000 hours of community service and also received a $300 Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) scholarship! Celebrating AVID's Impact At the May board meeting, AVID Coordinator Tara Hannah provided the school board with an update on AVID’s growth in ACUSD over the past 8 years. The concert band worked with several talented up-and-coming music educators, received invaluable real-time feedback from high school music educators, and engaged in sectional sessions with esteemed faculty and professors. Colorful Day at Plymouth El Plymouth Elementary students had a blast at the Color Fun Run on Friday, April 11! Students ran laps and got more and more colorful, thanks to volunteers and teachers who hit them with blasts of color as they passed. Amador High School Challenge Coins At the April 17 board meeting, Amador High School Principal Kaleb Cagle awarded five of his staff members with ACUSD Challenge Coins. He recognized Stephanie Bramer, Jeremiah Cloud, Clare Condon, Nancy Sanchez Lemus, and Gabriela Lopez Prudente. Celebrating Argonaut's Top Students Argonaut held their annual Top Ten Breakfast last Thursday to recognize the top ten students from each graduating class! District News & Announcements New ELOP Junior High Program! πŸ“£ We are excited to announce that we are opening up our Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) at both junior high schools! ELOP will be available at Ione Junior High and Jackson Junior High starting in the 2025/2026 school year. The program will run Monday through Friday from 1:30 pm (minimum days) to 5:30 pm. Members of the Plymouth Elementary Community Advisory Team presented an overview of the grant, shared Plymouth’s goals, and expressed their enthusiasm for its implementation over the next five years. New Vision Screening Tool πŸ‘“ Our Health Services Team has purchased a new vision spot screener using funds from our Medi-Cal Collaborative team! The spot screener enables our team of nurses to quickly and easily detect student vision problems. Amador Tuolumne Community Action Agency (ATCAA) assists families needing shelter, warmth, financial assistance, and other basic needs. They provide support for individuals of all ages and walks of life, including families, youth, and adults. Community Mental Health Services Survey Amador County Behavioral Health is seeking input on their Community Survey for the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Community Program Planning Process (CPPP)! The survey will be available to take online until March 31, 2025. Complete the survey here. Substance Solutions for Amador Youth (SSAY) SSAY is looking for high school students interested in joining their youth coalition! Members will be a part of a group of youth leaders working to reduce substance use in Amador County. Gift cards are available for first-meeting involvement! If you know of a student who might be interested, please have them fill out the interest form on the website. Celebrating Music in our Schools Month! 🎡 March is Music in Our Schools Month! Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) is celebrated every March to recognize the importance of music education in schools. At the March 5 board meeting, music teacher Sophia Rechel spoke to the board about the importance of music and band in our county, and members of the combined Argonaut and Amador band played a short performance. You can watch their performance here. Community Supports Argonaut Student Leadership Argonaut Student Leadership is going to the California Association of Student Leaders (CASL) Conference in April! The CASL Conference is a transformative experience for our students, providing them with an opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain confidence, and network with student leaders from across the state.
